Who told you that? No, that's nonsense.

A salesperson can usually tell the difference between someone who is genuinely interested in buying a car and a tyre kicker. If they sense someone isn't a serious buyer, they'll naturally spend more time with the person who has done a bit of research and is asking informed questions.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just speaking from life and work experience.

You're the author of the opening post and you've visited plenty of dealerships and brands over the past while. What car did you end up buying?

I've a company car, currently a 5-series BMW. Was given the go ahead to change late last year. Couldn't get the 5 series in diesel, so fancied a new E Class. Rang the main dealer nearest me on a Wednesday afternoon to ask some questions and book a test drive - salesman "couldn't come to the phone" - I asked if there was more than one (surely, in a large main dealer?) told none of them could come to the phone. Left my details and asked for a call back - explained I was looking to buy. No call back.
Called in while passing around two weeks later. Now I'm not some teenage lad in a tracksuit on a bicycle - I'm in my 50's, look like a stereotypical businessman, wearing business attire, driving a 3 year old BMW. A couple of salemen sitting at desks in the showroom. I walk in and look at an E Class there. Nobody comes near me. I walk up to one of the salemen and tell him I'm interested in test driving an E class. He says (I'm not joking) - "they're a very expensive car you know" I'm speechless for a moment, and then reply "ah, ok, I thought they were free" - and I walk out. I order a hybrid beemer.

I'd think twice about a new Hybrid beamer if I were you

I made a few enquiries about a few different cars recently and I am being hounded by follow ups constantly, so different experience to others here

My wife suggested it was a not terribly good haircut I'd gotten the previous week!

I am considering an ionic 6, drive it liked but I had concerns about the shape of the car, mainly will it hit off the ground driving up into and out of my driveway and also the standard rims are 20” with no smaller options. A Renault Megane, test drove that and got a good price. I’d like two drive the new id3/Cupra born but there not available yet to test drive. I did go to another dealership to measure the ionic 6s front splitter & I was there with my tape comparing both variants and nobody came near me but they did look at me from behind there desks.

    New barber then!

Yeah, they probably should have approached you to ask you if needed help and if you had considered the front and rear overhangs and the approach and departure angles, along with the angle of your driveway.

if I had enough lying around for a 6 wheel drive G wagon I’d probably buy another house.
