Westmeath won the Tailteann. The first Tailteann winners to kick on and win a provincial title. Before the Tailteann Cup started up it was highlighted that Clare and Leitrim won provincial titles a few years after All Ireland B success.

Along with Fermanagh in Ulster, Wicklow holds the distinction of being one of only two counties in Ireland that have never won a senior provincial championship in either football or hurling. A Fermanagh v Wicklow Tailteann final would be interesting and could be a stepping stone towards their holy grail.

I dont think its controversial or anything, thats the system we have in place.

But overall this summer, I wouldnt have said Meath were unlucky is all.

Just purely from a excitement point of view it would be great if Kerry got knocked out at weekend. Dont see it happening but if they did lose all 8 teams left would feel they have a chance to lift Sam. I know Dublin and Armagh have won it recently but Kerry are still ahead of everyone when all players back. I dont see a Cork, Louth, Tyrone beating them in QF.

I still think Kerry are team to beat. Said it before Armagh game last year when everyone wrote them off and I think this year coming in same way. Players to come back and all.

Would be great if Kerry and Donegal got knocked out, totally opening it up to anybody.

Dublin would probably be the weakest team left in the tournament

The bookies think that Kerry are the team to beat as well.

Paddy Power: Kerry 9/4, Donegal 4/1, Galway 9/2 Armagh 11/2, Tyrone 12/1, Cork 18/1. The others 20/1 and better, Dublin 25/1. If Armagh beat Kerry, their price will go very short.

After the Ger Brennan revival for Dublin in Breffni, maybe some could be tempted by that 25/1. Tyrone would be my dark horse, they are in the QF having played just 3 games between Ulster and the Rounds.

Cork will avoid Kerry in the QF, if Kerry beat Armagh.

    All-Ireland Quarter-Finals

    27-28.06.2026 (Sat/Sun)

The four winners of Round 2a shall be drawn to play against the four winners of Round
3, subject in the first instance to the avoidance of repeat Provincial Final pairings and
where possible repeat pairings from Rounds 1 and 2.

    All-Ireland Semi-Finals

    11-12.07.2026 (Sat/Sun)

The four quarter-final winners shall play against each other in the Semi-Finals based on
a draw, subject to the avoidance of repeat pairings from the championship, where
    possible.

    All-Ireland Final

    26-07.2026 (Sun) – (Replay 08.08.2026 (Sat))

The winners of the All-Ireland Semi-Finals shall meet in the All-Ireland Final.

Venues for the All-Ireland Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final shall be determined by
    the Central Competitions Control Committee.

2 of Monaghan wins were in the Provincial though, so are irrelevant to this competition.

I’d say whatever other teams are left in the quarter finals would be as or more confident they can beat Donegal as they would be of beating Armagh if both those teams go through. Dublin have 2 All Ireland wins this decade and are still a bigger team to see gone than Donegal I would say. Kerry going out would be enough to make all the last 8 look like they have a chance. Still expect the winner will be from Kerry, Armagh, Donegal, Galway. Draw from the quarter final onwards could open a nice route to the final for one county but it could be for 1 of the 4 above.

I’ve been at most Dublin games the last few years, the team that won the AI is all but gone and ‘most of those left are at twilight of their careers. We’ve failed miserably to replenish the squad so have not much quality coming through and it’s fair to say our first team (particularly our defence) is inexperienced at this level. And we’ve not had a coach for the last 3 months.

I don’t know where people get this idea that Dublin are going to just buck a 2 year downward trajectory trend. I think like other teams in division 2, Dublin could very well catch a team out on their day and maybe even surprise Donegal but it’s highly unlikely they can maintain that form for another 3 games.

The thing about Galway is they've gotten to the QF having only beaten Div 3 and 4 teams.

Their luck with the draw will surely change in the next round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 600 ✭✭✭cgorzy

Yeah, I haven’t seen anything from Dublin to think they have a chance of winning it this year but if they beat Donegal they are probably better than what they’ve looked like so far, even if they fall over the line. Then they would not be seen as a favourable draw and could get a favourable one themselves.

I think Kerry are the only team where if they make the last 8 it would stop the Championship looking very open. Donegal will not be viewed that way after their loss against Cork in Ballybofey and their last All Ireland was 14 years ago. Tyrone and Galway or Louth would be confident if they drew them.

But how have we been lucky, as you said? We were always going to get an away game in round 1 but we've had two long distance away games in rounds 2 and 3. For someone travelling from Navan to all three games, that's over 1300km in just over a month.

That is what it is, I haven't heard any Meath fans actively complaining about the away games themselves. Moreso the times of these away games (5:30 in Cork, 7pm in Derry and 6:15 next Saturday) meaning most Meath fans aren't home until extremely late at night.

I remember saying on here that Kerry were great value and so were Tipp (11/1) before QF games last year

The one time I wanted to be wrong being from Cork.

I got Kerry at 6/1 on morning of Armagh game last year. Backed them at 5/2 couple weeks ago to win All Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,745 ✭✭✭dobman88

That means if you put 20 quid on at 5/2 you'll lose 20 quid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,636 ✭✭✭Gael85

Can't see them be beaten. Once go after opposition kickouts others teams can't cope with it. Diarmuid O'Connor is be an addition for that area this year.

Dylan Geaney is going to be top player this year too. No other has the depth of their forwards.

Nothing unusual about that. Donegals run to the final last year was very lucky

was Ger Brennan serious about fixing the Donegal game at Parnell Park. If so it’s pathetic and embarrassing that Dublin don’t want to play at Croke Park just because all their fair weather supporters have deserted them and only the few thousand actual supporters(out of 1.4 million!!) go to their games niw that they’re not winning everything

All you need to know according to RTE.

No speculation there about possible match ups in the QF's. But I think that if Kerry, Donegal and Meath (against the odds) win, then Cork would play the winner of Monaghan Westmeath. Which would bring hope to Leeside of an AI semi final, in which they would avoid Kerry?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,304 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

I think Cork could still face Kerry in a semi-final if the 3 teams you mentioned also won their quarter-finals. In that case a repeat fixture would be unavoidable.

So you've mentioned now a few times. Were you mentioning it in the last few years when Galway were repeatedly getting the toughest draw possible, coming in as no.1 seeds (provincial champions).

The thing about 'no repeat draws' means it likely catches up with you at some point. Kerry and Donegal are favorites this weekend. They cant meet Cork in the QF. If Armagh win they can't meet Louth. All makes it very likely Galway will meet one of them next time out, despite coming in a no.1 seeds themselves

There probably is a route that one of the supposed weaker counties of those left might guarantee themselves a semi the way it's working out. Again, with matchups they'll get screwed at that point however

Sean o shea, Shane Ryan and gavin white back on the kerry bench. Looking ominous for the rest

Great championship so far. The FRC have been a game changer. Whoever fixed upon Jim Gavin to head it up struck gold. He might be tarnished by an ill advised presidential campaign, but Gaelic Football owes him a debt. He was the perfect man to bring in the changes, methodical, analytical he brought military precision to it and road tested everything with so called sandbox games, this established any un intended consequences that may occur and again they were tweaked, it wasn't rushed and the amount of hours in the background that went into must have been enormous. Also his team, Fitzmaurice, Horan, Collins, Murphy im probably missing someone, all level headed in touch with the game and in it for the good of the game. Its been a resounding success and they deserve endless amount of credit. Can you imagine the mess you would have if you had the wrong men in the FRC, im thinking the likes of Brolly, Spillane, Parkinson.

mayo 1/2 in betting. Meath 2/1 good bet you’d imagine. Meath beat mayo twice in last 8 months

    Crazy stuff.

Every pod i listen to are going for Meath.

Its a coin toss this game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,636 ✭✭✭Gael85

Malachy O'Rourke was on that committee too though you wouldn't think it considering Tyrone are struggling with the new rules.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,213 ✭✭✭Neddyusa

    Really?

Why do you think Tyrone are struggling with the new rules?

I think they have really sussed a nice style of play in the last 3 months and are sitting pretty in the Quarter Final.

I think they're the best of the 4 teams there so far and I'd tip them to go at least one step further than last year.

It was that earlier in the week but it's tightened up a bit now - 8/11 & 6/4 with pp, 4/6 & 17/10 with Boyles - that pp price is about right IMO
