GPU repair in Dublin/Ireland

    Hi all,

I've got an RX6800XT that doesn't post, been in a box for a while now and I'm using an older and still working card. It doesn't post but power is delivered, fans spin and the light comes on.

Does anyone know of someone who has knowledge in repairing graphics cards? I jumped through the hoops with AMD and consumer watchdogs with no luck as I've had the card over 2 years (I argued that a premium product should be expected to last more than 3 years).

Have you tried with both cards in the same PC? If you run off the other good GPU, is the 6800XT detected at all as a PCIe device still? Can GPU-z extract any info from it? Does it have one of those BIOS select switches that some AMD cards tend to?

It's in an ITX build so can only have one plugged in. Ssh'd to the PC with the card in this state, lspci and amd tools haven't detected the card. Light and fans come on.

I'm suspecting a possible bios issue but would like to know if there's someone I can take it to. I'll check the card with a multimeter but beyond flashing the bios and I would like to have someone who knows what they're doing work on it.

Have you tried updating the bios? While not the first port of call, it can sometimes help.

Also have you checked that your PCs power supply is enough to handle this graphics card?

My PC, which I built, has a Flash Bios option. This involves downloading the latest bios update for your mother board and putting it onto a flash drive. Then you restart the pc and go into bios mode (I think it's the delete button on and msi motherboards), select the Flash Bios option, then going to the correct file path on the memory stick and selecting. It can help with things like hardware incompatibilities with very recent hardware.

Other possible problems include the gpu not being properly seated.

I got a platform to use as a stand to hold up my GPU last year.

Mobo is up to date with the latest bios, this happened out of the blue and there's no signs of stress on the pcie connection on the board. Definitely seated properly, reseat several times and other cards work fine.

AMD recommends a minimum 750W power supply for the Radeon RX 6800 XT. While a quality 650W unit can suffice for lower-power CPUs, a 750W to 850W power supply (80+ Gold rated) is ideal to handle the GPU’s 300W power draw and sudden transient power spikes safely.

Also have you checked drivers from a previous gpu arent the issue?

Yeah power supply is fine, especially considering a Radeon vii will happily run at full tilt on it. As for drivers, fresh install of Bazzite still doesn't detect the card, undetected on Windows or Linux.

Maybe a problem with the hdmi cable?

Some GPUs have their own power sockets. Mine doesnt but I've had ones that did in the past. So important they are connected too. Sometimes people miss them.

Yep tested HDMI, DP and USB outputs. The card isn't detected so no OS will know to output there anyway.

Yeah, if lspci isn't showing it, then it isn't even appearing on the bus, so attempting to reflash the GPU BIOS isn't likely to get anywhere. It does sound quite toasted at this point.

Yeah, I'll open it up when I get time and test the lines etc but would need someone who's better at resoldering components to handle that part.
