Medicals are badly organised, so the fact they haven't called you yet doesn't mean anything.

Hopefully. There’s been others in this thread that got PFO emails 48 hours after the line manager interview, it’ll be a month next week since mine. Latching onto every possible clue, would really love the job.

Until you hear your out, your in. The railway works its own way. No logic, reason or accountability

Any news from the inside about training classes? Any news related to Dublin would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Email received today, not good news unfortunately.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It must feel devastating after putting so much effort 😞 I hope that you don't give up and try again in the next campaign. If you don't mind sharing, was it a rejection email?

email from the driver recruitment address yeah. Ah I’d be lying if I said it isn’t a kick in the nads after 5 months but I have an enjoyable career so I’m not facing back into a job I hate at least. Good luck to anyone else still in.

Got same rejection email. I knew it was coming

    sorry to hear that.

I got that email last year its crushing and I taught I did a really good interview to be honest. Dont think I would answer anything different. I applied again this year only because you have 24 months grace if you passed all the phases from when you started them (So basically a year!) So you only have to pass the initial online test and then you go straight to interview stage which I am waiting on.

But I really dont know what they are looking for in the interview? I had 6 good life/work examples plus the line manager interview is meant to be 50 mins, mine went on for an hour and 50! and I taught the exams would be the hardest part. Seemly theres roughly an 87% fail rate on the exams. A few lads I talked to on the day of some of the exams were on their 4 or 5th time trying and never passed all the exams!

Plus you get no feed back from the interview which does'nt help.

Sorry to hear very unfortunate, would say its a sucker punch alright, to get so far for an unsuccessful outcome, and I recall you guys were in for Dart ? Hope next time round it works out.

Im in for general 2026 campaign and waiting with crossed fingers for outcome of 16 PF interview.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 JustANewbie

Good luck with the rest of your application.

DART yeah. That initial application was poorly worded, it said something like if you apply for loco and DART you’ll be disqualified. I didn’t do the second batch of online loco ones as a result but it doesn’t seem like you can’t apply for both. I’ll go again I’m sure whenever the time comes.

I also assumed you could apply for both, I did diabolical in the dart online tests and didnt make the cut but then general loco competition i did much better and have just been getting through each stage.

Its the most competitive competition ive ever taken part in and I have had other highly sought after public sector jobs, nothing compares to this process.

Can I ask the line manager interview, they go through the pre interview form competencies too ? but your also expected to have somewhat of a working knoweldge of the role ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 JustANewbie

different competencies which they will send you, they were not the same as the 16pf anyway - usual stuff like emergency situations etc not so much a specific working knowledge but the role in general yes, Irish Rail yes.

Fully agree, it’s a gruelling process and I’ve been in other processes which are a competition and certainly the drawn out stages take over your life much more but the prize is well worth it and nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

I know a driver well enough and he said he works with quite a few drivers who had to attempt it several times before success.

Rather than have a working knowledge of the role, they want to see you've taken time to look into the company. Have an idea of what services leave from what station, planned future expansion, things like that.

I think its the time it takes which is the crushing part! Last year I applied just after christmas I think. Tests up in inchicore started in May got to line manager interview in August and result in Septemeber! Every stage there was a 4/5 week wait nearly for the result 🤦‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,640 ✭✭✭Citizen Six

I know a lad who waited 6 months before he was even called for the in person tests.

I did my line manager in March 25, and medical less than a week later, and as of today still waiting on movement. emailed HR last week, and received this reply

" Thanks for your email – I hope you are well.

No change on previous correspondence, I’m afraid. The business have yet to confirm their exact requirements in terms of locations, etc.

A member of the Resource Planning team will be in touch with guidance on next steps at the appropriate interval.

Thank you for your ongoing patience."

    Patience of a saint 😀

I would say leave well enough alone as your clearly over the line and just waiting placement but 1 year and 3 months is incredible.

As said your clearly in the door and maybe your location vs expected upcoming expansion is whats holding up.

They wouldn't have had a 2026 campaign if there was nothing planned so surely your the first in line. That said ive no insight so talking out of my arse 😅.

Seperately thanks to those above on what to expect in terms of organisational knowledge.

I hope you're right, oh It certainly makes booking a holiday awkward 🤣

1 year and 3 months isn’t that bad…seems normal. It was 16 months for me from application to offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭Doyle93

He is 1 year and 3 months since line manager interview and medical, not from application, unless I misunderstood.

Your own scenario 1 year and 4 months total seems very normal for jobs like this. Fair play to you on getting in, hope your enjoying it.

What depot were you waiting on? I'm trying to gauge the wait time for Dublin vs others

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭.300 WinMag

Correct, that time since LM and medical, in for Galway

Nothing wrong with following up from time to time. They have been known to forget about candidates until they've been reminded.
