yeah, much maligned lads like Lukaku and Morata can frustrate a lot at times, but that presence and instinct is invaluable.

Actually Googled a while ago to see if Lukaku was still playing.

I know it might seem a good idea - But I'm not sure I'd let my 100 million euro player have a shower in water from a US stadium - could be recycled or anything - or worse. Chemicals.

Lukaku needs a few hydration breaks...he's a big unit.

Ah man, there's Lukaku at his worst after seeing him do well to force the goal earlier… had to keep that header on target.

Des Curran & Ray Houghton are/were there as they were pitch side prior to the opening match in Mexico.

Darragh Moloney & Ronnie Whelan arrived stateside yesterday I think.

All other RTE commentators are in Ireland as far as I know.

The last embers of Belgium's golden generation. They never reached their full potential as a squad.

Yeah, sure with the scale of this world cup, you'd probably need 6 to 8 commentary teams on the go if you actually wanted guys in the stadiums for each game. It's a decent enough pragmatic balance to have a main commentary team there, backup teams in Ireland, and the international feed for the middle-of-the-nighters.

That should've been a free for Egypt, player was manhandled onto the ground at the edge of the box.

Been a great watch the last 15 mins

Always felt - they had a bit od an attitude or something - not a team .

Jaysus - if Belgium win this , be a robbery

Anywhere else it's a nailed on free, ref was afraid it was in the box and would've been a soft pen

Christ, what an awful ball forward there just before the end - had a bunch of open progressive passes to make one more chance, and just boots it into no-mans land, and the games over.

Great result for Egypt, though another failure for my predictions league. It's, ah, not going well so far!

Looked like a peno to me, might have been given earlier in the game

How is there so little extra time , in the extra time - when you add in the hydration.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,507 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

first time I can remember seeing Egypt play well..ever. Didn’t expect them to show much. Draw fair.

Uruguay missing Gimenez, Araujo and De Arrascaeta. Might be a link between their absence and Bielsa’s overtraining.

Thought Uruguay would win, probably still will but not ideal.

Good to see they didn't forget Muslera when the took Shakira and Ochoa out of cryo-storage.

"Everybody knows what to do in a 4-4-2 formation".

Realistically, 4-4-2 is probably a novelty for most players of this generation, even going through youth academies, particularly outside England.

Uruguay starting at a good clip here.

Ads running long yet again, making the 'hydration break' closer to 4 minutes.

The Saudi's love playing Blue/White South American sides in their first World Cup games it seems!

Saw some compaints here about it the other day - but i bloody love this ref cam! Much better insight into the true pace of the game, and also just how good these refs judgement is (for the most part) on where to move to have a clear view.

The ref in this match looks to be constantly where the Uruguayans would like to play the ball, dead centre and around 30 yards out. Maybe it's the pink that's making me notice it more.

Been all Uruguay the past while, well deserved equaliser. With about 14 minutes left, they'll fancy themselves to get a winner if they can keep the pressure on.

Funny watching players instinct to role around corrected very quickly when they remember they may end off the pitch for a minute.

FIFA are a horrible pox on the sport but they do get some things right.

Uruguay should be beating Saudi by a couple of clear goals - not much good starting to play with 10 minutes left - where was this intensity in the 1st half

Really enjoyable 2nd half, Uruguay showing great Bielsa style intensity, well deserved equaliser and not settling for a draw.
