Yep seems there is no fixed rates alright.

Threw it up onto energy pal and there first few plans have minimal difference in projected annual costs.

    Some have a 24hr rate, others a day/peak/night rate.

A lot seem to reference percentage discounts off their standard rates, but for example the plan with 29% discount is more expensive than a plan with 20% discount which in turn means the standard rates (pre discounts) are different.

I presume it’s hard enough to project which provider will increase their standard rates first etc?

only thing you can do is check who’s increased already and hope they don’t again really

Energy pal should advise you on 24 hour or day/night/peak based on usage I would have thought, I’m on day night peak and it’s of no benefit to me going by my usage as nothing happens at night time 😂

I will likely move to 24hr rate next time

Bonkers had an article on Microgeneration yesterday, with an updated list of Export rates across all suppliers:

    Flogas price increase announced:

    https://www.flogas.ie/price-change/

Makes their EV Tariff look like this after increase: no change to export rate, remains at 18.50 cent.

Bwg folks should be okay for a while

I just got in on time and got a fixed price off flogas on gas and electric before trump caused mayhem. I presume the standing charge will go up as that doesn't seem to be covered in the ts and cs

    • Residential electricity customers on fixed rate contract are unaffected.

Flogas have managed in the past to jack up the fixed rate contract prices mid contract by raising the "non energy" component of the price whatever the fvck that means.

Net effect was a 5% increase in the unit price. I signed up to an 18 month fixed price contract in May 2025 expecting the price to be fixed for the duration - it wasn't !

In this case, prices are increasing because of the energy component.

It absolutely wasn't clear to normal people signing up to the BWG deal. However, anyone who signed up by reading this thread should have been aware of the catch*. FloGas largely indicated it was to do with expected increases in network charges. The rates have now been passed on and there should be no further increases on the fixed FloGas plans.

*(despite a certain poster or two confidently claiming otherwise at the time)

I think that was called a pass through increase, when I signed up to the latest bwg fixed rate this was mentioned

I avoided being darted by moving online from the BWG plan to their fixed plan which has now disappeared, my son signed up to it the day before it went, he was steeped😊

What's the current electricity only unit rate and s/c for the BWG deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,568 ✭✭✭obi604

I signed up to this last march. I am on a standard day/night meter. no smart meter etc

Day: 25.18 with VAT (ex vat is 23.10)
Night: 12.64 with VAT (ex vat is 11.60)
    Standing charge: 355 (with VAT)
    PSO: 19.08 (with VAT)

I think it may be a BWG rate perhaps. Will this be impacted by the recent price hikes?

Just check your bill or contract to see if it's says fixed rate

I was on the bwg deal with flogas up until a few weeks and now looking to sign up again with electricity and gas. Am I right in thinking the best deals will be with separate providers? I'm hoping flogas will let me go back on the bwg deal as had to leave the last house abruptly so they didnt charge any early termination fee

I got best price for me recently staying with Bord Gais for gas only and I've switched from Airtricity to Electric Ireland.

Bonkers have a lower rate on offer from the July 1st raise in prices from EI and for me it's a better option then any of the other electric suppliers out there right now.

This is the deal I got including VAT

    From July 01 with EI;

    Day Rate: 31.24c

    Peak Rate: 33.33c

    Night Rate: 16:41c

everyone’s needs are different, usually the best thing to do is jump on Esb networks and download your file and then upload that to energy pal or failing that add your details to a price comparison website

What’s good for me won’t you so it’s difficult to say

Yep and that's the best deal I could see, for me. I use the night rate a fair but. Otherwise they're all crap

Ah I know that but I was more curious in the cheapest unit rate. We have always been on 24hr tariffs and usage was massive for a 3 bed house. That was largely down to electric heating though.

In a year we used just under or over 13000kwh but we have moved into another house and no idea what our usage will be. Guessing 6 or 7k kwh per year but thats a complete guess. There's gas heating in this house
