Who is this Isak fella? He's properly putting himself in the shop window now for a big money move to a big club.

4 goals in 6 matches in qualifiers and now 11 in last 3 is some turnaround. Front 2 will be full of confidence also.

Reminder that there is an Irish fella playing for Cape Verde today against Spain. Irish representation at the world cup, after all!

Hope he does well, fair play to him.

It’s brilliant and one of the nice little subplots of a World Cup full of toxic crap and rip offs courtesy of FIFA and US.
They are cannon fodder minions but I really hope he and his team playwell , especially against Spain and it’s really cool for Shamrock Rovers and their fans too….Kills me to say it as a Pat’s fan 😆

it’s mad that it feels like the World Cup has already been on ages, yet so far only 24 of the 48 teams have played a game!!

So we’re only half way through the 1st round of group games…

By this time next week this is all gonna start dragging on a bit…..

Cape Verde looking compact, Pico looking composed with some nice touches and a great clearance header.

another good save - cape verde doing well to keep spain out so far

Cape Verde not afraid to come and attack in waves. The keeper again is playing a blinder. Still think Spain will be comfortable in the end.

Spains obsession with tiki taka and pep ball means they have a rake of midfielders to dominate possession but no strikers to actually score.

Yeah, they should still win handily enough (even Germany only had a one-goal lead until just before the break yesterday) but they can be such a frustrating side to watch at times for exactly that reason

just seems a pointless criticism. Their method of football has largely worked since 2008. They’ll win here and move on.

Only Cucurella playing well for Spain. Oyarzabal is embarrassing. Fails to shoot when he has a chance on his right foot and then heads back across the goal instead of getting it on target at the close there. They'll need Yamal to come off the bench as Cape Verde are well worth their draw at the moment. So comfortable on the ball its great to see.

It might be 0-0 and Spain doing all the attacking but this is an entertaining and cracking match.

    CV keeper having a stormer.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,657 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

The crowd don't agree - boos ringing out

It's intriguing without being entertaining i think. Vizinha in nets is playing well but hasn't had anything spectacular to do. The rest of the Cape Verde team can barely hold on to the ball so it's attackers against defenders. Spain look like they're playing the walking World Cup

Lamal on now might change things up. But really Spain should have scored by now and should be forcing Cape Verde to come forward and leave gaps to exploit in defence

    Into them Yamal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,162 ✭✭✭Damien360

Cape Verde in panic mode clearance since Yamal came on. Would never have guessed this scoreline at 75mins but I can't see them hanging on.

I've never seen a team under less pressure despite not being able to get out of their own half

    This is a weird game

Imagine being the left back, running the bollix off yourself for 70 minutes and then a fresh Yamal comes on.

Maybe Cape Verde are playing rope a dope :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,162 ✭✭✭Damien360

Nico Williams on for the other back so they will have something to compare !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,839 ✭✭✭Schwiiing

Spains last 2 results are 1-1 with Iraq and 0-0 with Egypt. Admittedly friendlies but not exactly WC winning form.

Lopes doing the country proud here.

Why would Pedri give away a free there?

Let the guy run - he'll give the ball away soon enough. A free kick just lets them regroup and get a breather. Idiotic stuff
