Yup, same here. Stand out option at LB, imo. If he could be got, I think he'd be a fantastic boon to the team. Would massively improve the effectiveness of the left side of the attack, imo.

It just seems so unlikely that Newcastle would let hom go for a price we would be willing to pay. Despite all the reports.

Carrick seems like the type that wouldn't be bothered by the Prime thing one way or the other whereas Amorim was so highly strung, so emotional…..guys…..that it had the possibility of going all sorts of wrong….guys

It's really bad form that RA didn't release a statement thanking fans etc for their support while he was there. Because he did largely have the fans support even though things weren't going great. I thought he might be waiting until the season was over to release something after the dust had settled.

Or, am I wrong and did he actually release one that I've missed.?

Yeah, I just don't know what's going on with Newcastle, fought tooth and nail over Isak, seemed non-plussed about letting Gordon go for a reasonable ish price.

They've also moved on Anderson without too much fuss, so they're obviously not too wedded to their young English talent.

I'm not saying this as a grammar nazi… but non-plussed means the exact opposite of how you are using it (and how I was using til i read it in a book recently, it made zero sense in context, and i looked it up).

Non-plussed is confused, not knowing how to react or what to say.

    My mind was blown!

Ha! Thanks for the interesting aside! I've always used it this way unquestioningly, but apparently it's an incorrect Americanism.

Did the book have the origin of when it started being misused?

Edit: Oh sorry I see now how you twigged it, it's funny cause I'm sure that's how I picked it up, contextual use that was obviously incorrect in retrospect.

so about 20m made today. not bad.

re the documentary, i dont like it - i dont think cameras belong in the dressing room.

Manchester United are set to save over £8/9m in compensation for Rúben Amorim and his staff.

Follows agreement done between Amorim and AC Milan, as revealed earlier today

Great news about Amorim. It saves us a few bob. It’s unfortunate how it ended, For whatever reasons, it didn’t work out, I wish him nothing but success.

No statement just a massive grin for the cameras

I believe he has absolutely no social media presence to release anything to anyone, maybe everyone who desperately needs the closure will get a mention during an AC Milan press conference or something!

    Like clockwork.. 🤣

"My time at Manchester United was difficult because from the start I felt the club never fully backed me. They brought me in because of my ideas and philosophy, but when it was time to be patient and support the project, that trust disappeared.

You cannot ask a manager to rebuild a team and then expect miracles in a few months. Every successful project needs time, support, and belief from the people above. Unfortunately, I didn't feel I was given enough of any of those things.

The club wanted immediate results while I was trying to build something for the future. When things became difficult, instead of standing behind the process, they started questioning it.

I accept my mistakes, but I also believe I deserved more time and more backing to show what this team could have become.

But that's all in the past now. I have no bitterness towards Manchester United and I genuinely wish the club the very best going forward. I'm also proud and excited to be back managing one of the biggest clubs in the world.

We will meet again during pre-season, and it will be nice to see familiar faces, reconnect with people at the club, and enjoy a good football occasion. Football moves fast, but the respect will always remain."

How has Amorim taking the Milan job saved us money?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,217 ✭✭✭jayo44

Terms of his compensation agreement more than likely He probably due only partial value of his contract if he took another job within a year of been sacked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,094 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Likely a clause in the compensation that if he takes a job within a certain time period his compensation gets cut by a certain amount. But how long was actually left on his contract, a year and a few months?

Seems a good choice for a manager who likes to build a team and system slowly, there aren't high expectations so any improvement will be welcomed, much better job choice then ten hagg per say who went to Leverkusen and was destined for failure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,094 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Fans will chew him up and spit him out if things aren't working and he stubbornly sticks to what's not working. Fans already hate those that are running the club.

It's a head start that Milan mostly played 3 at back last season anyway. I'd say he will do well there.

Ornstein linking United to Summerville. About 50 million pounds. Suppose he could be a good squad option?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

He's pretty bang on with what he's said there to be fair.

He's clearly very hurt by how things transpired in the end. I wonder was he placed on NDA hence why we've heard nothing until now.

Like summerville a lot but would rather see other positions sorted first personally.

Which part do you think is particularly bang on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,811 ✭✭✭All_in_Flynn

Pretty much all of it. He was brought in as part of a project and asked to rebuild. Results were poor but I felt that the underlying metrics were trending in the right direction. I still feel we'd have been in a better place in the medium term if we stuck with him.

I'm not positive we'd have gotten Champions League football in the season just gone but I think he was only a good Summer away from seeing the fruits of his work.

I'm behind Carrick but I feel this is going to end only one way and we've sacrificed the long term for the short term $$$.

That statement from Amorim ties in perfectly with the idea that the job was just too big for him and he didn't really know what he had got himself into.

I am all for patience and time, you will be hard pressed to find a post of mine where I called for a manager to be sacked but the fact is, when you are in the premier league the run of the mill games are just so tough that it is just impossible to do the type of rebuild he is talking about.

Maybe at Sporting they win half their games by default and you can be tinkering away and even if you put out a novel formation you will still rack up the points just because you are so much better quality wise than the opposition.

But in the Premier league, you start messing around too much and you end up finishing 15th and that's just not going to fly. And you finish 15th at the biggest club in the world and you are going to start to feel the heat from fans and media and you better be able to handle that, which is another spot where he fell down.

Did anyone really 'expect miracles in a few months' though? I gave him a complete pass for his first half of season and backed him a lot longer than most but but it seemed like there was no consistency week after week. Maybe metrics were trending in the right direction but I found the football to be generally awful to watch. He says every successful project needs time, that does not mean that every project will be successful given time. I would agree that if the club bought into his vision they should have backed him though.

The guy who spent his interviews practically begging to be sacked is now whinging that he wasn't backed enough, its very on brand for him. And there are more holes in that statement than the midfield he put out, and more gaslighting.

But the important thing is that he is gone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 695 ✭✭✭GolfPar

With 24 months left on his contract, NOW is the time to sell or we end up with another Sancho situation where he runs down his contract.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,584 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

Amorim is deluded. I'm all for giving coaches time but he has to show some signs of progress and improvement. Is it only fair to judge him when he has a squad of 25 players all signed for him? That's crazy, no club will give a coach that much leeway, part of the job is to get the best out of the squad you have, which he was clearly not doing.

Nobody was demanding "immediate results" or "miracles", its just more gaslighting from Amorim.

Underlying data my arse, the results were bad, the performances were muck, no players were improving, simple fact is that Amorim got far more time than he deserved and yet still has the cheek to complain about it. Very on brand for the guy who told his own players that they were the worst squad in the clubs history.
