Watched that mayo Tyrone match yesterday n thought I'd take either of these in the draw. Happy enough with that, could have been a lot worse.

**** me they're making us travel to all corners of the island. Any idea when they'll announce the day we play?

heard that too, wouldnt mind it on early. at least were back at reasonable time! we got back from Derry at 12.30am. how did your stay go, Derry fans seemed sound enough from who we met anyway…

not a bad draw br the away part, jeez theyre really making us travel this summer! The year we have Croke park as our home pitch and we dont get to use it, co-incidence anyone?!! I genuinely think it costs too much to open it and im calling a fix on our draws 😜 Hopefully we'll kick on from saturday now and would love to make a quarter after the way the first part of championship went for us. I thought we were much more solid team in general v Derry though the back line still gives me nightmares tbh. Im not sure I agree with others above re Rafferty, it feels like somethings amiss since last year and I dont think hes on form yet. maybe confidence thing, he was very down after Westmeath game… He needs to really peak in next game or switches to be made either. McGuigan got lots from him when Donal wasnt on him…

mayo man here, castlebar, with the obvious disadvantage of you having to travel, may actullay be an advantage for Meath.
Mayo’s home record isn’t great, if it’s not going great crowd get very cranky and it builds pressure on the team. For example believe it or not most of us were happy the Tyrone match was in Omagh and not in castlebar

6:15 on Saturday. Jesus Christ, can they not have it at a time where our fans can get home at a semi-reasonable hour on the same night?

Yes, I was up there. It was actually a lovely stay and the result made it nicer. Derry fans were very gracious and a bit of craic at the same time. Took the opportunity to visit the city so all good from that point of view. We took in the Museum of Free Derry on Sunday. It is right on the spot where the Bloody Sunday shootings took place. Great to get the opportunity to stay over but it would have been a long trip home for those doing the up and down. Judging by the amount on the pitch afterwards quote a few would have done that.

So, Meath team and fans to travel again. You would have thought that a better time be given this time - it will be a late return again from Castlebar and it is a definite negative in the current system. It is probably much easier for the GAA to have home and away arrangements instead of having to arrange and manage neutral venues. I just think that they should consider the teams and supporters and allow games to be played at the same time. In my opinion the Meath Mayo game should be on no later than 4pm to allow for potential extra time. At one stage last Saturday extra time was a possibility.

staying in castlebar this Friday night, lots of sports on and want to be in situ for the unofficial all Ireland final on Saturday Kerry v Armagh without missing it travelling. Fully expect Meath to win but we need to target mayo for goals because we will probably concede 1 as well. Maybe 2.

were heading down early tomorrow too and hitting pub for the first game too. I got a few tips from the guys on mayo thread. Really hope we come back with a win from this. It would be great to get into a quarter after the rough start we had!

Safe traveling to all the Meath fans heading west this weekend. Hope ye enjoy the weekend if staying over in Castlebar-Westport area. Obviously I hope ye don’t enjoy the game…Up Mayo ;)

Wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Killian Smyth n Curtis today. Hickey is well capable of kicking a couple of points for us also , I'd like to see him taking on shots.

I think we have enough about us n the bit of momentum from last week to win.

Heading over this afternoon. Never been to a game in Mayo before so probably wouldn't be going if it weren't for that.

Think it all depends on how each team's defence manages the other's forwards. Hoping our midfield can tip things in our direction but if we're as loose as against Westmeath and Cork, McDonald and O'Donoghue could run riot.

Yet again taking our foot off the pedal when on top. Could have stretched the lead but I only one point in the last 10 minutes since the second goal and lucky not to have conceded a goal ourselves. Silly turnovers putting us under pressure.

We were quite wasteful and we've left the door open for Mayo. They'll come out now with the wind and nothing to lose.

    Mayo really squeezing us now

Red card Jones. Was he only just on?

    Have we fucked it?

That's that for Meath. A very stupid red reacting to a late hit by the Mayo man. But as always, the reaction gets seen. A red card is insurmountable under the new rules.

Cork managed it which shows how much we fucked that game too.

Cork just happened to kick the lights out that day. Everything they went for turned to gold. I'd imagine it's very much an anomaly under the current rules.

I got stick for saying this earlier this year but Brennan misses too many easy free kicks.

We are bottlers simple as. Onto the club championship now.

Not ruthless enough with the wind. Not putting away good goal chances. Missing chances when we were in the ascendancy. And a moment of madness from Jones giving a mayo player an excuse to fall to the ground.

If I was Robbie brennan I would be watching out for the word 'Review' be mentioned by Meath County Board.. if they talk about conducting a review like colm o'rourke it will be curtains for Robbie..

Tbh he should probably spare them the job and step down.. Meath have been very disappointing this year... 3 very very bad defeats in championship...

    Never ever a red

    Strange subs

We’re top 12 but no more with that current squad

Play in spurts. Combine our best half with our worst half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,215 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

We've learned absolutely nothing this year. He just has them all out attack no matter what. 7 points up, second half, slow it down. Hold onto the ball for 60-90s and take the sting out of it.

ThThat's The way it's been all year... remember league game with Cavan.. miles ahead at halftime and it took a 2 pointer from jack flynn to win that game… and Robbie Brennan has failed to deal with it...

We're in a better place since Robbie took over that's for sure. Clearly capable of reaching top tier heights for large parts of a match. But the game management when we take a lead is brutal. If he doesn't address that next year he never will.

Meath has an extra days rest and mayo only had 6 days before this match. It's no wonder they were very slow to start. They could of had 5 days and we'd have still found a way to lose

I'm not sure Meath are in a much better place tbh... the new rules last year were a great help to Meath... I have no doubt they played a role in Meath getting as far as they did...

managers and players have a yr experience with new rules and have a handle on them and have better tactics in place... hence Meath haven't had the same success with new rules this year like they did last year... and Robbie Brennan doesn't seem to have any sort of a Plan B or C for his players... I think he has been found out and is out of his depth at this level
