Whatever happened to this beer? I drank it briefly a few years ago, in a pub in Carlingford….. it seems to have disappeared.

It was a great tasting beer.

It never came back after Covid. Diageo must have done a reassessment of their line-up once pubs re-opened and this got the boot. It's a real shame. It was a lifesaver in normal-beer pubs.

I notice that alot of pubs stopped serving carlsberg on tap only having heineken obviously induced by heineken offers. However this seems to have made carlsberg more desirable, any pubs that still have it now are reporting big increases in sales. Breweries should not be allowed to use these anti competitive and anti choice measures.

Diageo have likely had no net reduction in tap space - 3x types of Rockshore plus Harp have eaten in to Carlsbergs space.

Carlsberg is still no 6 though just behind rockshore, fairly impressive for diageo to get a new brand like rockshore into no 5. Heineken is the top beer brand ahead of guinness surprisingly. Harp doesn't feature i never see it on tap anywhere.

Harp is on tap all over Dublin. Took a lot of Budweiser space when that changed distribution

Rockshore was a fascinating example of what you need to do to launch a successful beer brand in Ireland. It arrived alongside Molson Coors Archway: an identical beer pitched at the same market with very similar branding. They should have been equals, but not only is Archway gone but it pulled the entire brewery down with it. Diageo vigorously defended its tap space for the unknown Rockshore and gave pubs vast amounts of free beer to take it.

It's a fine example of how capitalism and a free market are mutually incompatible. Nobody has the power to compete with Diageo in the Irish beer market, and that has nothing to do with the quality of the product.

I used to like it on draught. Pity it's not around anymore.

One problem here as well, which I learnt from my time working behind the bar, Irish people tend to see breweries as single products, so if someone orders a "pint of Carlsberg", they expect the regular one, not to be presented with a choice of regular or unfiltered. On a busy Saturday night you can be sure you won't be offered a choice as well.

I am done with buying pints in Dublin pubs.

Was in a suburban pub, ordered a pint of Madra… was charged 840c.
