Hard to believe he was a man of integrity no comparison to sleezebag trump had hosted BN at maro largo 6 months b4 election and iran knows it

Much of the world hates and wants trump humiliated so it would make them look good if that's possible.

We are all going to pay for this war the straits will be in iranian control while its regime remains.

Jack Cocchiarella on youtube saying that the reflecting pool is broken.

Jack Cocchiarella has click-bait title on video…announces the topic and dangles a morsel to get people interested…then says 'but first - and introduces something completely different that he goes on about for most of the video. The click-bait gets a brief mention at the end and may be something, maybe not. Another one beside Midas Touch that I have unsubscribed from.

"As a UFC fan it's pretty iconic having this event at the Whitehouse."

Does it not bother you that a showcase for the sport you love is happening with Trump front and center, a sexual abuser, a racist, a fascist, a facilitator of genocide, a corrupt paedophile protector who is using his position to make obscene amounts of money? If I loved a sport I would like it to be as far away as possible from all of that corruption

The banners and UFC setup look tacky AF when the backdrop is the likes of the Lincoln Memorial. Why not plaster "Monster Energy" across the tomb of the unknown soldier? As much as Americans revere the flag - too much IMO - I think a sizeable portion would be fine with it being replaced by the TRUMP flag that seems to turn up everywhere arseholes roam. Remember the Trump flags showing up at anti-immigration and anti-mask protests?

Are they not ‘entitled’ to that standard of living. After all , it’s America yu are talking about - he land of the free;, Trump has made it beautiful again!,; the land of plenty; the most powerful country on earth, etc. So what can go wrong?
Oh Wait, Trump still has to address economic pockets such as creating jobs in the RUST BELT, farms going bankrupt, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,380 ✭✭✭Field east

The only ‘outstanding’thing that Trump has to address So as to be seen as an ‘all rounder’ like Putin is his ‘ Poweress’. Putin demonstrated this by his JUDO SKILLS and did he also have a black belt.
There must be a photograph/video someplace showing Trump FLOORING an occupant in a UFC engagement!!!!

From a UFC fan point of view. The Whitehouse is as prestigious as it gets and it will remain so long after Trump is gone.

The reality is the UFC guys might view it as great but from a historical perspective this all just comes across as embarrassing. Nobody is gonna be looking at this big historical moment. Outside of maybe two rapists coming together over sport to celebrate a man's unhealthy ego. Like the Irish government wouldn't be seen dead near McGregor cause he's so reviled by the nation.

I'd argue that Trump is sufficiently useless that he doesn't need to be humiliated to make other people look good. Even Bush Jr looked good by comparison.

There is a thread over in After Hours about things that make you feel old. It makes me feel old to think there was a time that Bush Jr was considered the worst and most clueless president ever. I long for those days now.

Do you not think there's something crass about commercialising the White House? It's all about money, although I'm sure being UFC adjacent makes Trump feel like he's a tough guy, much like all that WWE bullshit over the years. Next, he'll be getting snapped riding a horse shirtless.

It's just one step short of renaming the White House to McDonald's presents The White House. It's just so tawdry. I'm amazed that there's been no real backlash over it.

He uses AI slop and fake assassination attempts to project masculinity

Does anyone outside magaworld see them as projections of masculinity though? Anyone else sees him making a fool of himself projecting fantasy. Including his 'policies', all of which are rooted in fantasy or greed.

That's the thing. They used to harp on about bubbles without a hint of shame or sense of irony. They've created a series of echo chambers now such as X and Truth Social where they never see anything challenging. UFC with its muscular men, toxic masculinity, violence and showboating fit the profile perfectly. Of course, the second someone challenges them they have a meltdown such as Trump having a tantrum on that interview.

Trump fatigue. People can't summon up the will anymore. It's easier to check out at this stage. Perhaps they're saving it for the midterms?

    Nope.

US Household debt as a function of disposable income is only barely above Ireland and slap bang in the middle of the OECD table. It is also, I would note, about half of Switzerland's - and no one here is going to tell me that is not a wealthy country with a straight face.

    https://www.oecd.org/en/data/indicators/household-debt.html

There is an absolutely desperate desire to believe that the US is not an economic success story. It is a deeply flawed country for a host of reasons, and it is very easy to fall on hard times, but for the large majority of the population they are simply better off financially than we are in Europe. That economic success is among the things Trump is threatening to destroy of course, but this idea that has been hammered into so many European minds that the US is a country of oligarchs and poor people is a complete fiction.

Oh, God preserve us from that sight! Even the mental image that popped up for a second will require brain bleach.

Yeah. It's so easy. It's so draining to see how easily he captured the checks and balances that are supposed to hold him in check. It's like how the Nazis overran Europe. They overreached and burned themselves out but that took years. Trump has over half his term remaining.

I agree that many, if not most Americans are wealthier than their European counterparts. That's not really how I look at it though. I get free medical care, 26 days off a year, affordable healthy food, good public transport, affordable air travel to a myriad of fascinating and wonderful countries on my doorstep and various other things. I also don't have to pay for a vehicle, health insurance, I don't have to work weekends, I have sick days and I don't need to worry about getting shot. The worst I have to fear in my day-to-day are careless drivers, cyclists on pavements and phone snatchers. On the last one, the rates are plummeting.

It depends on what one values. I accept that I may be poorer after my hypothetical American counterpart pays for his Whole Foods shop, health insurance and obligatory vehicle in most of that country. I'll take Europe any day though. The UK has some very serious problems of its own but I don't even want to visit that cesspit across the Atlantic.

I went to Jordan just before the pandemic. It was wonderful. One small thing stood out to me. The locals came across as being tremendously well educated. A ticket seller at a church in Madaba asked me as I was paying if I was from Sligo. I wasn't wearing anything to suggest that. He just estimated it from my accent.

Obviously, there are serious positives to life in the US. For me, it'd be their countryside but I just see a country where people on the whole are so cossetted, so culturally stunted, so sycophantic and so apathetic that they can't even have sensible discussions about real problems like gun violence.

I genuinely don't think I will ever visit the place. I'm reminded of an old joke about the difference between a yoghurt and the US. After 250 years, the yoghurt will have a culture.

Your post reminds me of the aphorism "the richest man is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least". Rampant consumerism is almost as natural as breathing for many Americans - they'd struggle to adjust if that was taken away.

That said, a tour of US national parks is top of my bucket list. If you've never been, and you appreciate the outdoors, I'd strongly recommend a visit. Maybe wait a few years though, not least because of the currently inflated entry fees for tourists.

Melania will keep well away with the likes of McGregor and other UFC scum knocking around the place as Donald has them into the Oval office for big Macs and fries washed down with CC.

UFC Whitehouse has nothing to do with McGregor. As a UFC fan I'm glad it's gone, there's been a lot more hype around this event. Haven't stayed up late to watch a card this year yet for personal reasons but I'll be staying up for this.

Although I will add it's taking place on a Sunday night which is very unusual. If it had of been on last night I wouldn't have watched it.

    Great post.

I'm sure America is fine if you worship money, ahead of quality of life.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
