    https://www.irishtimes.com/politics/2026/05/19/rte-treatment-of-sean-rocks-pay-had-significant-financial-implications-for-family-says-td/

Asked about Sherlock’s comments, RTÉ provided some general details of the pension and benefit schemes relevant after the death of an employee.

“RTÉ has a group life assurance policy which pays 2.5 times insured pensionable pay on death in service,” a spokesperson said.

“Salary for pension purposes in all RTÉ schemes is basic salary plus pensionable allowances and these would be advised by RTÉ to the pensions administrators.

Was he getting a salary and then an extra presenter pay which wasnt then fully reflected in his life insurance?

There is clearly more stuff to come, as predicted..

We might be better off selling the cupboard completely given how splintered it is

I wonder what Brenda identifies as? Is she a producer when she pounces on people in garages and a presenter when she "interviews" them?

She got RTE to boycott the Eurovision, not that they needed much convincing on that.

    🙈🙉🙊

Podger O’Donovan is quite correct, there is still, one would surmise ,plenty of irregularities hiding in RTE cupboards.

Almost every day throws up another scenario of ‘deviation’ from most people would see as normal practice.

Employees, contractors, half producers half presenters, I’m sure the trades have a similar obtuse set up.

The whole set up appears to be a hastily set up Jerry built house built on very poorly planned foundations.

Time for Podger to tool up,go in, and flush the place out.

John Q Taxpayer has had enough.

sounds like an argument for total demarcation of job roles and a return to the 1970s

Sounds to me like breaking up inner circles aided and abetted by incompetent management who were butt-reaming poor Pat with quite some vigor.

41 punters over to Praha…..c’mon now…poor Pat being ridden ragged here…enough is enough lads.

I’ve no idea what any of this means - anyway they should be encouraging staff to do multiple roles to get value from them as realistically you can’t schedule someone to be on air 40 hours a week

Kevin Bakhurst seems to be tired of being transparent - the head of RTE.

If RTE Radio staff were replaced by a bunch of AI robots tomorrow, would anyone actually care?

I sometimes wonder what is the point of the RTÉ television news at 9pm. More often than not it is an exact repeat of the 6 one news, as is the case tonight. They could save the expense of a newsreader by just showing the 6 one again!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,746 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

And no idea why they need 2 presenters for the 6.1 News.

Ray D’Arcy back in the papers given out about how badly treated he was by Rte. No mention of getting 40k for nothing though

I'm tired of his bleating. The entitlement he has is nauseating and tone deaf.

Does RTÉ realise that there are 27 stations including Newstalk now on DAB?

Coincidentally was in 2 different taxis yesterday in Portlaoise and both had DAB on..

    RTÉ not on the platform?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,154 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I was in the car happened to go though all the the stations, I am in Athlone.

None of the local service on are DAB. Spin K-Pop is available while iRadio is not, midlands 103 also not there.

Perhaps I am not pick up the full list of station as the main Spin channel wasn't available.

And it seems odd that the regional youth stations aren't on DAB as they are all owned by Bauer.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

You cannot have the Senior Management and Board of taxpayer funded organisation publicly admitted they were wrong.

You mean Moya Doherty and D4bes? No they were never wrong, just misunderstood.

I believe the Mux operator are quite keen not to have duplication of existing FM services on DAB at this time (and I realise there’s one or two exceptions on both).

That puts local stations at a disadvantage TBH. Surely local operators should have been asked to add their own channel along with alternatives.

Midlands along with Midland Music, Midland Extra or similar.

Does the operator want the national channels from RTÉ because that would be duplication.

i wouldn’t say it puts local services at disadvantage because as you said they can put up brand extensions onto the service.

That being said, I’m not involved in the process so am relating back what I’ve been told second-hand.

Did hear Nova earlier bigging up their DAB coverage on a couple of dj links.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,154 ✭✭✭RoTelly

It does if RTÉ only offer up their 5 channels.

Nice of RTE to send their Washington Correspondent to the White House to cover Trump's birthday. You would think this doesn't warrant any Irish coverage but apparently RTE thinks it does. As usual with Trump, RTE wants to convey that they hate him by giving him loads of coverage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,154 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Surprised anyone she's not on Holiday's yet, she much one of the hardest working Washington correspondents .

I noticed that their NI bureau seemed missing in action, but I don't often watch RTÉ so I am not sure, did they report on any of the programmes?

And she happened to be standing in front of a Palestinian flag in her live report about Trump's birthday. So instead of just not covering the birthday, which is what should have been done, RTE chose to cover it to virtue signal. Usual pathetic RTE coverage of US matters.

The Northern correspondents were used for the Jeffery Donaldson trial and seemingly they were unable to double up and cover two stories at the same ( the Belfast disorder).

Unfortunately the rioters didn’t start til the evening after the court sat all day in different towns. Very poor coordination from both sets.

This is more suited to the TV forum, but I suppose it relates to the general malaise in Rte....

Very disappointing to see Rte drop to the "World Feed" for world cup coverage last night, its the first time ive noticed them doing that, for the world cup....it had started to creep in a bit to the Olympics the last time around alright
