nothing confirmed yet but rumours are a €2.95 processing fee will be in place at a later date

An Post won't be getting the €3 and I can't imagine them doing anything for free. €2.95 would be the minimum they'd charge.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Is there any extension for quickly checking the pricing between the .co.uk and the .ie site on an item page? I am sick of doing the manual edit of the URL for each item.

Tried to buy a fire blanket and the import charges were nearly as much as the item

I'll probably jump ship from amazon uk with this €3 bullshit.

Temu is where it's at these days anyway.

I presume it is going to get to the point where it will make more sense to cancel .co.uk Prime and more to .ie Prime

Ie still seems like a bit of a joke. The prices seem a lot more than UK and even the website isn't as well designed.

That's some big miscalculation by amazon.co.uk there, the same item on amazon.ie, also sold by .co.uk, comes with only €0.29 import charges.

Not if the customs fees are collected at checkout, like with Amazon. The extra admin fee only applies where An Post or other courier has to collect the customs fees themselves.

Just to add to this, this admin fee is already applied in this circumstance as VAT is currently being collected so no change there.

Not even of the same item. All items in a package with the same customs code will be covered by a single €3 levy.

There's a €2-per-parcel customs admin fee being applied from 1st November (in addition to the €3-per-item-category fee).

Not only do you pay the import duty but they charge you for paying it as well 😏

I didn’t know this was confirmed, if it’s taken at checkout then there shouldn’t be a fee from an post

All this is going to change when it changes to a fixed % vat rate from my understanding

Yep, these just temporary charges until 1st July 2028, then switches to standard % tariffs.

I've seen quite a few things that were cheaper on.ie the latest being a bed wedge to fill the gap between the mattress and the bed frame. €21.99 on or £29.99 on .co.uk Same with some kids toys

So will the import charges currently for purchases from Amazon UK stay on .....and will this €3 charge be a add-on extra to Amazon's import charge per item from July 1st

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,807 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

From my understanding prices remain the same and Amazon should add the extra €3 to checkout per customs catergory from July 1st.

Where the money goes nobody knows

Is Amazons import charge the same as the €3 charge...I mean will Amazon UK drop their import charge now?

€3 charge is a new one, I’ve never fully understood what the extra import charge was for as anything I’ve ever paid marked as that has been refunded just shy of 6 months later

Apologies if this isn’t the exact thread for this but anyone get an email from Amazon about returns? I ordered some razor blades from .co.uk and they sent the correct brand but a different blade - but not compatible with my handles.

Got onto chat, explained and was asked to send a photo of what I received which I did - I didn’t even open them, they’re still sealed. I then offered to send them back (they’re no good to me without a handle and I prefer the blades I regularly use) but they said no need to send back and refunded me. I then ordered the correct ones again.

last night I get an email saying my return was flagged and though I can still order I’m basically being “watched”. In 10+ years of regular ordering I’ve returned one other thing I can think of.

    Is this just me?

Yes, the salary is enormous, I understand that, but that doesn't affect my soul.

Its happened to me too, regular order and very little return but. ordered from Warehouse, didn't work (so in same way as blades, useless to me), agreed a return via chat and then got the warning.

If I had returned more than 2 things to Amazon in the 12 months previous I'd be suprised, as you see in your communication they only say you are being monitored no statement of orders v returns which has led to the action.

I have returned things to Amazon since, as I always had done and, haven't been cancelled or contacted again.

don’t take it personally it’s just an AI programme running to deter people that make returns for fun

I didn't get an email but there is a note if I click start a return.

I returned bedsheets that were ripped.

Seems like Amazon have done a U turn and have pretty poor customer support these days. That along with increased prices I don't find myself using them very often anymore.

Previously they were far too generous with returns which was very open to scams

Received a small gift card / voucher from work (US based) as a birthday gift. It was an Amazon.com voucher, pretty disappointed in Amazon that they can't transfer a .com card to .co.uk or .ie... Surely that should be within their capabilities, a huge chunk of the voucher will be used up in shipping fees.

That's an insane move to flip from that overgenerous, prone to abuse customer service policy directly to an aggressive regime, in which customers are threatened over returns literally agreed on with the CS. And if the customer base pushes back, they will simply blame it on a tech glitch. Another great ad for AI in the hands of multi-trillion-dollar corporations. BTW, you won't find a better argument not to buy from Amazon Warehouse anymore. Not only are the discounts minuscule, descriptions inaccurate, but now you can also get flagged for returning the rubbish they advertise as "Like new".

You do realize the charge is on everything purchased from outside the EU.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,137 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

Yeah, isn't this to target Chinese imports more than anything?

I had an item missing not delivered and they won’t refund me just threats to close my account and that there courier delivered the item.
