RTE2 strictly for sport, or as an emergency escape from particularly annoying post 9.00 News episodes of 'Wagon Trail', Aka Prime Time.

Speaking of sport, will RTE get the Taylor fight in Croker I wonder? €1505 notes for a ringside view of two wans batin the heads off each other. Sure you can watch that close up for free any night in Talbot st, and a variety of Midlands locations.

The quite frankly sexist comments in the post above aside:

It’s already announced that Dazn will have the rights to that, so unless they are feeling particularly generous on account of the occasion (or if they’ll take the money anyway if it’s offered) then no, it won’t be on RTE.

Taken on its own terms it was very good, slick and well presented. Also News 2 and Later on 2 debuted at the same time and fit well with the overall look. It was really excellent. What was even better was it came with an investment in programming and innovations like theme nights at weekends.

The problem with it? Only two years previously RTE had introduced its own new logo, with new matching looks on both channels and it got barely two and bit years of airtime on Network 2 before it got completely buried (the RTE One version got another year before it too was revamped, but the RTE logo never left it again). Between 1997 and 2003 you’d have barely known RTE and N2 had any connection.

Next RTE will complain young people are not watching television. Why would they watch RTE2. Would a schedule like hey had when they had the comedy night work now. They need to try something.

You'd be hard pressed to know that 2FM or even Lyric has much do to with RTÉ. The sports on Network2 would have been a major indictor.

It's not just about RTÉ2 as a platform. RTÉ don't seem to realise that any show produced for RTÉ2 ends up on their player. RTÉ have no "yuff" content on the Player.

The elephant in the room is that RTÉ largely believe that they are going a good job across the board, save for those governance issues D4bes' time at RTÉ was productive in terms of content, while her successor KB4 seem to believe that that content is good enough.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

As an RTE staffer, how/why is Tracey Clifford sometimes hosting the 6OC show on VM1 ?

Derek Mooney was rostered in to host Late Date on Radio 1 last Thursday but wasn't on air, I wonder is it due to the recent pay controversy he wasn't on air ? I had spotted him pencilled in for the gig on the EPG weeks ago

Seems like an odd show for him to present. Has he ever presented a music show? I wonder if that was a mistake.

Yeah actually he's been popping up as a fill-in on music programs very sporadically since 2020, mostly on Rising Time and for Marty Whelan on Lyric. His DJ debut was actually back at the very start of covid in March 2020, the time when all weekend sports was cancelled for a few weeks,he presented some of the RTE Gold on one simulcast 2/6pm. Here he is on Rising Time earlier this year.

I wonder what are the ratings like for Shortland Street at 18:00 on 2 compared to the Neighbours reboot when it was on air ?
