Also looks like Mourinho wants Fernades so another player to possibly mark off the list.

Crazy money! I like Anderson but he's not worth that pricetag. I hope we're not wasting our time on this

Get Fernandes done and move on to Tchouameni please

the only thing is, this transfer will inflate the entire market for CM's so we'll be now paying crazy money for not crazy good players.

There's been nothing but mentions of "Utd interest" regarding Anderson. No way are we interested at the prices being quoted. Tchouameni won't be happening unless he wants out of Madrid. Fernandes is good but hes not worth £80m and I hope we walk away if West Ham won't budge off that ridiculous price

I’m assuming Anderson preference is City and we’ll use ‘not overpaying’ line as cover.

From a value perspective I would be far far more comfortable paying £120m for Anderson than £70m for the likes of Baleba and Alex Scott or £100m for Tonali.

The level of inflation in football finances at the minute makes every summer feel a bit insane, but relative to all the other asking prices being quoted (if legit), Anderson looks the best value of the bunch.

I'd rather spend £120m on 2 players than on Anderson.

We aren't using anything as cover, it's been widely reported he only wants City, not everything is some excuse not to spend.

Interesting news about McKenna stepping down at Ipswich.

Which two players though? £120m doesn’t even get you Alex Scott and Baleba. It’s very difficult to get a player who moves the dial in midfield for £60m these days. I expect we’ll sign M.Fernandes but it’ll be closer to £80m. I love him as a player but Anderson is a much safer bet.

I think you’re agreeing with me in the second paragraph. I think the club would happily pay £120m for Anderson, but he wants City. They are saving face in media saying the finances are too much rather than saying he doesn’t want to join us.

Taking a complete break from football apparently, has denied being interested in Fulham job

I reckon Scott can be gotten for 60m, the original price was like 30-40m, the 80m asking price is just them pushing up the price, Baleba will go for around 50m-60m but apprently we've cooled on him, Fernandes for 60m-65m....Now whether we get him is another story.

We got Ederson for 35m, if we fail to get a prem proven CM they have back ups in mind.

We should bid 140 for Anderson just to force city to spend more. Push them up to 131 charges.

Think we will get either Fernandes or Tchouameni. If Fernandes goes to Madrid there probably will be a good chance to get Tchouameni.

    and up goes the price:

Manchester United remain keen on Mateus Fernandes with more clubs also in the race.

José Mourinho mentioned his name to Real Madrid yesterday, more Premier League clubs showing interest.

    Price tag around £85m.

Lewis Hall has gone up to 70m too 😂 I get they want to look like hard negotiators but cmon West Ham, ye got relegated and your owner is dodge!

    Confirmed by the BBC

The England international had been United's prime target as they look to address their issues in the centre of the pitch.

However, they also went into the summer determined not to overpay for any player and equally keen to avoid being dragged into a bidding war. They also wanted to be sure any player they did go for was keen to play for the club.

On all three counts, United currently feel continuing to push for Anderson would be a mistake.

Being sensible is not what I'm used to.

There was a little bit of noise earlier in the week that United were ready to bid following Citys initial 80m offer. If true, I guess that was the club doing as much as they were prepared to do (in that, at around 80m they were prepared to get involved), but with City subsequently dipping into the oil money, United have sensibly backed off. They done the right thing so in trying up to their set limit and then walking away.

As much as I would have liked Anderson at United, the cost and his preference for City meant the deal was always unlikely.

The reported fees for other targets are currently off the wall as well, I hope the club take a hard line on those as well.

Feels like a transfer United would have pushed through a few years ago to show they can beat City in transfers. Not too bothered, plenty more midfielders in the sea

How much would we be willing to pay for Fernandes in a potential bidding war?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,526 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Don't worry someone will be along shortly to scream that we should pay whatever they want and that INEOS is ruining the club

Anderson News is disappointing but not surprising.

It illustrates how tough United will have it to get back genuinely competing for the top titles.

City are already stronger and are adding to an already strong midfield. The benefit of signing someone like Anderson is it also weakens your rivals who might want him. City are moving further ahead of United with his signing.

Hopefully there are some strong alternatives the club are looking at because the midfield badly needs genuine top quality.

I do genuinely wonder about what's going on behind the scenes with City and player transfers. The decision is expected this Summer and if found guilty they are likely to relegated at the least and are facing massive litigation from other clubs.

Are players writing clauses into contracts or do they know something we all don't?

It's also no guarantee with Pep gone that City are going to remain at the very top. Things can go badly very quickly at this level.

It's disappointing as I think Anderson is similar level to Rice and Arsenal fans are not complaining about the fee they spent on him. I would have paid it but I'd want him to want us too.

I don't see there being a bidding war between United and Real Madrid. I don't think he is one they'd be willing to make a statement signing of. They'd want him to throw his toys out of the pram and say he will only play for Madrid so they can pay €50 million or something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,812 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

If he's choosing City at this stage, then it's for the bonus salary into a foreign bank account. There's very little attraction about City post Pep. Relatively small club, small fanbase, not respected, facing unknown punishments on charges, English players eventually end up on their curb...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 21,509 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

i just wish there weren't briefing for months that he was the priority.

back in jan, it was clear as day city were also interested, and forest would want at least 100m.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,859 ✭✭✭SteM

If he ends up there then it's hard to believe that City are spending this sort of money without having a very good idea of the outcome of charges against them. My guess is they know what's happening and they're letting the players agent know on the QT that it's safe to join.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,526 ✭✭✭NITRO95

So your problem is they told us who the priority signing was but we are refusing to overpay and that's somehow bad? My priority when I was 15 was to marry Anna Kournikova and told everyone as such, that didnt mean I couldn't get married ever unless it was to her

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,087 ✭✭✭✭Macy0161

I'd also have doubts about a meaningful punishment, but there is still the unknown of post Pep. Anyway, he's not worth that type of money, especially when less would get Tchouameni who is more the "profile" (little bit of sick there) we need.

Yeah, there is the unknown post Pep but there is the unknown about Real under Mourhnio, Liverpool under Iraola, United under Carrick etc. Lots of new managers about this coming season. He'd almost be better staying at Forest next season and seeing how thing pan out tbh. He's young enough to do that, another season there might do him some good and obviously won't harm his international chances.
