World's gone nuts. If you'd told me a year ago that the Iran and the US were trading strikes tonight, Israel has invaded Lebanon to the Zahran doing a Gaza2.0 because no one stopped them the first time, the Hermoz has been blocked for months by the US, the entire planet is running out of oil and Trump has bs'ed so much about an imminent peace deal for over a month that he'd actually managed to bring the price of oil down in the last couple of days to well under 90$ I'd say you're looney tunes. But there you go.

Something's gotta give, a little push will be all it takes and it's probably will be from an unexpected quarter. The US has lost this one, spectacularly.

Good analysis from Jeremy Bowen, BBC.

"Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu believed that victory over Iran would reshape the Middle East.

The region is being reshaped. But not in the way they expected. The Islamic Republic of Iran has not been defeated. The risk now is of a long, attritional permacrisis that will lurch in and out of outright conflict."

Depressingly predictable given the arrogance and incompetence of Trump....all the pieces were there. The situation just needed a complete moron without morals to wade in.

    World's gone nuts.

It's what happens when lunatic, right wing, sociopathic, maniacs get into power.

It's not like we haven't been here before.

I wouldn't put it past Israel to have carried that out to drag the US back into the war.

President Trump has issued an official communique. February, March, April, May, June, …

The US president has restated claims that Iran’s military is a “complete and total mess” and like its navy and air force “doesn’t even exist anymore”.

“They have been completely defeated. Iran is all talk and no action. The Bully of the Middle East is DEAD!!!” he said in a post on Truth Social.

“They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!” he added, without elaborating.

It's insane how often Trump has said they have had, or are close to having, a deal.

looks like we are back to square one - Iran must be back on borrowed time again

Trump says US close to striking Iran's power plants, bridges over failing negotiations

some reports also from iranians that US stuck two water facilities in last nights strike

I think Israel are making a fool out of Trump yet again. They are invading further into Lebanon and provoking Hezbollah and subsequently Iran. There can be no peace until there is a real ceasefire and the invasion stops. Israel don't want to stop. Trump then gets impatient and is convinced to start firing missiles again. Led by the snout.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Its funny how they are disrespecting Trump so publicly now. Israel was a big part of the Democrats losing the last election and now they are damaging the Republicans in the mid terms. Its a suicidal strategy.

US Vice President JD Vance sounds confident that a deal can be reached with Iran by the mid term elections. Anywhere from a week to months from now he says.

Probably an honest assessment since America has the worst negotiators and a schizophrenic leader.

Or he could be (deniably) taking the p1ss, echoing Trump's vague mindless baseless optimism…

Netanyahu has got Turkey in his crosshairs now, having an online spat with Erdogan accusing him of all sorts following a fiery speech by the Turkish leader this morning. The whole region will explode soon enough with this idiot kicking around.

You can imagine plenty of the citizens around the area asking the question on why their governments are doing nothing about the genocide and why Iran is the only state in the world along with a few militia's the only ones willing to do anything to prevent it.

In fairness, anyone who didn't vote for the Democrats in the last election because of Israel is a complete and utter Moron. All the clues were there from Trump's behaviour and policies from his previous term as to how much worse he was going to be. And lo and behold, if anything, the reality has been even worse. Those idiots should take a good, long, hard look at themselves and what they've helped to enable.

True but my point is israel is becoming election kryptonite for both parties. Bibis long term strategy seems as clueless as Trumps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,408 ✭✭✭Enduro

I think the difference between those 2 is Bibi actually has one. I understand your point, and it's a good one. But I'd still say that anyone in the US who votes for a Republican because they think that a given Democrat is too pro-Israel is, frankly, an idiot. American politics is stupidly unsubtly binary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,286 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

I think you are being too kind to Bibi. He seems like he is stuck in neverending conflicts to stay in power and has helped Israel lurch further to the Right which will damage the country long term.

I completely agree. Bibi and his even worse coalition partners are doing enormous damage to Israel. But the never-ending wars are very much the electoral strategy. "Mr Security" is his primary schtick. It's still an intentional strategy though, which is what puts him one up on Trump's "make it up as you go along" approach.

    anyway back to business lol

Perhaps that might eventually be his undoing, if the Israeli public become disilusioned that Mr Security has them locked in a forever war with really none of his stated goals achieved. The problem for BiBi is perhaps he can only play Trump for so long, before Trump turns on him. Could we get to a stage where Trump withdraws US support, if there is still no deal by the end of the Summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,408 ✭✭✭Enduro

Well I certainly hope that happens. It's definitely possible, and there's no doubt that plenty of Israelis know exactly what he's at. I just hope that its enough to see him loose the upcoming election. I'm hoping the opposition will be able to turn the campaign around to discussing who's fault the Oct 7th attack was. That's his big security weakness, IMO. If Trump is getting very obviously annoyed with him, and starts withdrawing military assistance, then I'd say he'll have big problems. That'd be a stopped clock moment for Trump.

Daily there's just so much nonsense coming out of the WH - but the irony of what he goes on about is obviously well lost on him.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqFMhbx3Seg

(side note, I almost feel sorry for the people standing around him for the hour listening to the manure.

This video is full of it but from minute 24:40 to 26:15 (and specificilly around 26 mins in) - about someone else running for office: "Hes not a business man, his parents supported him, the guys a loser"

"Trump's fortune originated with his grandfather, Frederick Trump, and his father, Fred Trump, who built a highly successful real estate and development company in New York City. Fred Trump's construction business—fueled by post-war government loans and housing projects—amassed a fortune reportedly worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Donald Trump directly inherited a substantial portion of this wealth and received millions in loans and financial backing to kickstart his career"

He managed to bankrupt himself a few times as well.

But his latest grift and abuse of the office will create generational wealth for him and all around him while the majority of the country get poorer in real terms.
