He is bizzarely, for the matches you've referenced and the fact I watched most of them with my young teenage son at the time, particularly the Barcelona game, my "favourite" player. Loved his calm demenour and just chill attitude, never any grief to his manager or team mates etc, always smiling.

Obviously not the best player (King Kenny / Stevie / Barnes / Suarez) or hardest working player (Robbo / Suarez) I've ever seen in a Liverpool jersey but deffo the one whose great memories to minutes played is the highest by far.

Respect that he hangs up his boots on his own terms aged 31.

He'll always be a Liverpool legend for me.

I never heard the likes of the excuses that were made for Isak’s performances. Everything seemed to go back to his “lack of a full pre season” even though he was fit for virtually all of preseason. So surely he was training independently of Newcastle and once he joined Liverpool it should just have been a matter of integrating him into the team?

To be honest that excuse never made sense anyway, loads of players miss pre season (which Isak didn’t even anyway) and it doesn’t cause them to write off a whole season like it apparently did with Isak up to his actual injury.

It’s almost like people are just refusing to believe what their eyes are telling them. He looks absolutely crocked, there’s rumours that he has a knee issue that will never come fully right and to be honest that would explain a lot.

Another thing that invalidates the pre season excuse is Isak looked like this for his last 3 months at Newcastle. He was consistently missing games and looking way off the pace in the games he did play.

It has the bang of the Torres to Chelsea transfer years ago when for whatever reason he was just never the same player again. I that case as well it was pretty clear from his last few months at Liverpool that he was on a decline from which he never truly recovered.

Obviously have to give him next season but it’s just total blind faith at this stage. Nothing he has shown in season 1 suggests he will ever be the player we saw up until his last half a season at Newcastle.

I deleted my Twitter account earlier in the year - which I must say I wholeheartedly recommend - only downside is I have no idea who were being linked to:

    RB - heard nothing

    CB - Inciao

    CM - Scott

    Wingers - Diomande, Barcola

    CF - Darwin

Would appreciate if anyone could fill me in on the rest of the murmurs. Is there any other good forums or discords out there which would keep me on top of this stuff?

Going to be a very quiet few weeks on the transfer side with the world cup starting so players wont be doing deals while at that. Hopefully Iraola is getting to know the club, working with the players he has available…would like an update on the backroom team though soon. World cup final isnt till July 19th…most players will get 2 weeks off after their team exits before reporting back, so I wouldnt expect much movement until into mid july. Our pre-season starts July 25th in the US…

Wharton for midfield. Was interest in Eichhorn but that's been ended now.

There's rumours that we'll get an experienced CB in on the cheap. No links to a RB. I do wonder if they'll go back in for Geertruida or someone else who can cover both. But no links just me speculating

Join Bluesky instead. Similar to X but without all the BS and trolling that goes with it. You can follow a lot of the Liverpool accounts there and keep up with the rumours.

The only narrative that makes sense in my head around the impact of joining so late (and therefore missing preseason with the club) is
    1) He was thrown in to a squad in disarray without any time to train with them. You can look at Ekiteke and Wirtz as an example of what time together does for partnerships. They looked slick together at times last season.
    2) Again, being thrown in not at proper fitness levels may have contributed to his early injury in the season which knocked any progress he might have been making back.

He might have been doing a bit of maintainence training but no way would it be anything like proper preseason with a squad. It looked pretty alright for Sweden the last night too…

I doubt there is any player near the club at the moment. If not at the World Cup they are on the beach drinking cocktails. Even youth players I’m sure are off for a while.

    Iraola will have

    marma

    Kerkez, jacquet, gomez bradley

    Jones szbozlai

    Frimpong rio

And a few others not going like chiesa, tsimikas,

And maybe endo or isak are knocked out early, as they're in the same group with Netherlands and tunisia.

And a couple of young players

Theres just enough there to work on some defensive shape and a bit of pressing if everyone is fit that will allow the late returners to step into in August.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if many are taking time off when there's a new manager at the club. In particular youth players and any of those who might feel Iraola can give them the break Slot couldn't. Not being at the World Cup, the best use of their time is to work with the manager, impress him.

Last season preseason training started July 8th. The goalkeepers were due back July 4th and I think the full squad was due back Monday 7th but we all know Jota was planning his way back via ferry on morning of July 3rd to be back for the start of it so it ended up being delayed until 8th.

Everybody would be on holiday right now and preseason return hasn't been confirmed yet but if anyone is at the club now it's likely rehab stuff, Leoni was at the Axa this week for example. Ekitike and Bradley would be the others who won't be at preseason anyway

Harvey Elliott likely too which could be a good opportunity for him to show the new coach what he can do

They are 100% on holiday now and won’t be back nor expected back until July. I would think it would be encouraged for them to take time away similar to any job especially given the situation at Liverpool last season with Jota etc - they would all need time away to themselves and their families.

Many were playing international friendlies also so they are probably only going on holidays now that friendlies are over ahead of the WC. Would people really expect players to take no time off and spend time with their families??

I’d be very surprised if Iraola himself is even really around the club much over the next month to be honest. He has family too and based on previous comments I would imagine he would prioritise spending time with them when he can after a long season and an even busier one ahead.

Good shout. Would love him to take the disappointment of last season and drive himself into the reckoning. He has the experience in a pressing team, could be useful.

Yeah starting with a clean sheet, like a new signing really - the best of luck to him, seems to have a great attitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,171 ✭✭✭Bacchus

I'd have to go and double check it but I feel fairly confident that the Liverpool socials have been putting out content there of Iraola either speaking of working with the squad (particularly youth) or actual content of him with them, over the past week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭SodiumCooled

Thare is nothing on the LFC app anyway and Iraola was quoted as saying when asked if he is speaking to the players:

“For me right now, I think it's more than talk to the players. Some of them will be on deserved holidays, some of them will be with their national teams. I want to talk to the staff, to the people that were here every day, that know very well the players, to arrive as ready as possible to that first day of pre-season.”

Which reads to me not much will be happening with players before official pre-season which is as yet does not have a (public) start date.

You’re eliminating any possibility he’s just crocked and won’t be the same player again?

Could also be an attitude issue I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,000 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

I'd be amazed if that's the case. Aren't there player welfare rules around when training facilities can reopen once the season has finished? Although I'm not sure whether those rules extend to the academy, so perhaps the videos you saw were of academy players rather than the first team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,171 ✭✭✭Bacchus

I'm not eliminating it. I'm just sharing the narrative that makes the "most sense" around the impact of his preseason on his start at Liverpool.

That said, it's very hard to say either way if he is now crocked. His leg break was a freak accident so who knows if he could have just played the season out just fine if that hadn't happened. The World Cup might be revealing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 381 ✭✭The Guru 123

I thought he looked ridiculously slow and off the pace before that injury and going back to the end of last season with Newcastle even.

But I suppose fairest thing is to give him the World Cup and next season but if it’s a repeat of this year then I think it’s cut the losses time.

At least Darwin is energetic and gets involved in the game. Isak looks 50 out there sometimes he’s so off the pace.
