and then Brynes was blocked. If we had lost that play in my mind would have been one that cost us badly.

A small percentage of all fan boos, it's just 1% of 35,000 can make alot more noise than 1% of 10,000.

I still don't think I've ever seen people boo an actual free taker tbh. Whether for or against my side. What exactly would they be voicing their displeasure at? That the player who has been told to take the free is actually taking the free? It makes no sense.

At least voicing displeasure at the decision to award the free - though obviously impotent / futile - is at least some bit logical.

I imagine the booing is not to voice their displeasure but simply to put the free-taker off and for him to the free wide.

Cork would win the All Ireland Booing Championship if there was such a thing !

He knows that, everyone does it’s blatantly obvious, they were waving their arms the whole time in the terrace yesterday too trying to put AOC off. He’s just trying the same tactic as these people who ask a “genuine question” and then phrase it to suit their narrative. They’d be better off getting their own house in order rather than crying about referees and acting dumb about their fans behaving like fools.

That's goalpost moving a bit. People waving their arms and shouting obscenities etc. is clearly trying to put the free taker off. But booing does basically nothing. I'm not "JAQ'ing" here. Like it's completely illogical what some people are saying: "loads of Cork fans do this" and "Cork people are like this" and yet nobody on boards - literally nobody - tries to defend it or say anything like "that's understandable behaviour".

So either we have a weird unrepresentative set of Cork fans posting on here, or the people you think are booing the free taker are actually booing the ref's decision to award a free. And I'm totally open to being wrong on this, cos I'm not the one booing. I'm just perplexed by it because I've read it about a hundred times now over the last 24 hours and I'm baffled by someone booing a free taker (as opposed to whistling, jeering, waving, etc which is fairly clear).

As an aside I could easily make some cut off your motivations or make some generalisation about Limerick fans here too…but why? Why does GAA chat have to descend into this kind of weird slagging? It seems very juvenile... like booing... what's wrong with the sport that we can't actually discuss things. We're turning into soccer or something. My da is bigger than your da etc. Or maybe I'm the wrong one to be on here thinking / assuming everyone would post in good faith tbh, but in fairness, in ANY of my posts have I come across as disingenuous?

TLDR: If I'm wrong about stuff that's fine and I can accept I'm wrong or deluded but I'm not being disingenuous. I've better things to do than some kind of weird reverse trolling the day after Limerick beat Cork in a Munster final.

    Sweet jesus

Fair enough, I shouldn't have risen to the bait.

I'll bow out and say - which ye all know anyway - the better team won on the day and they're still the top team in the country year after year. It's nearly a decade now, some going.

That one was weird. Why didnt Byrnes just take the free.

A few mad decisions like that yesterday on both sides, possibly just put it down to the conditions where they were constantly looking for shorter "safer" options

They'd definitely have won it if the ref had just allowed them another 30 seconds at the end to crank up the volume of boos.

The Limerick semi final is on the Sunday 5th July, 4pm.

Compared to last year the limerick team look ravenous this year in terms of appetite which was plain to see after the final whistle, there will be no taking anything for granted in semi final against Clare or Dublin .

I thought James Owens should have played on after Tim O Mahoneys shot at the end tbh. He is supposed to keep playing until cork find an equaliser.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭jommer01

Clearly still bitter over last year. I was glad he blew up when he did to be honest. Extra time wouldn't have been good for either team in those conditions with the condensed championship after already picking up a few knocks.

Have a read of Malachy Clerkin in the Irish Times for an impartial view on Owens performance. Mark Coleman has also given an interview on the smaller fish and clearly has no gripes whatsoever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,891 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

That article was good and an unusually well balanced view of a ref. IT also had a good article showing how Limerick edged the game tactically too.

The weather turned real bad on the walk back to Cork so extra time would have been almost unplayable.

Nothing to do with being bitter, I just don’t understand the complaining from Cork that Owens blew it up too early. It was at 77 minutes when only 5 were added on. It was completely up to Owens discretion when to blow it up. Mark Coleman gave a fair summary of the incident alright, pity Ben O Connor wasn’t as gracious.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,185 ✭✭✭hans aus dtschl

Anecdotally nobody I know felt he blew it up too early. I'd say the team and BoC in particular are exceptions in complaining, possibly because it was ultimately their (and his) mistake.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭jommer01

Was brutal. Now imagine how miserable that walk back was for a Cork supporter! Was interesting that Coleman said Owens didn't give a single instruction as to how he would be reffing it. Players should adapt in real time but a bit of communication to players and even supporters on what to expect might go some way to relaxing the heat on referees.

Kiely said similar to Ben last year only in reference to the referee playing too much time. He also referenced decisions that didn't go his way. Only difference being he has much more experience and is a bit more polished. Ben was still fired up immediately after narrowly losing a munster final in his first year as coach in a game they led until the 70th minute. I don't think he was particularly ungracious and think he deserves a bit of slack.

The only annoying thing about it is the it's getting so much media coverage because of it. I haven't spoken to anyone who feels in any way aggrieved over it. I will say though that the ball was out of play for the majority of that 5 minutes and TOM was injured over the last free and feel the attacking team shouldn't be punished for that. It's a separate point though and easily could have been blown up before then

BOC needs a bit of media training. He comes across too angry all the time. He should keep that in house for his own good

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭jommer01

Not disagreeing with you but as a Cork fan I didn't mind seeing Ben a bit angry after the last day. He might be becoming unpopular outside of Cork but I don't think he'll care too much. Pat Ryan was widely regarded as the ultimate gentleman but never got over the line and there still seemed to be a general dislike for Cork anyway.

How good is that Galway minor team.

Are they the typically strong underage squad Galway usually have ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,048 ✭✭✭C4000

Hard to know, but based on results to date it would seem that the Munster form may be a bit ahead of Leinster. Galway had two narrow wins over Kilkenny, who were well beaten by Cork.

Cork also beat Wexford and Clare beat Dublin.

Superb performance. Better team from start to finish. This team has gotten better with every game this year. Will give Tipp a fair rattle in the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,891 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Some great scores and passages of play.

You can really see how and where Some of these lads could fit into the senior team Some day. I thought #4 Mitchell had a great game and has a rel look of a Limerick senior full back line player.

2 trophies, a minor final and an All Ireland semi. Been a great year so far.
