Some recent strike just off the east coast (Wicklow).

Thunderstorm potential increases more tomorrow Monday, again more so on Tuesday perhaps and less so on Weds but still a low chance in N, NE. Isolated in nature but as the Island becomes increasingly under the upper trough and associated cold pool ( very cold for time of year ) then the chance of instability increases lower down with the passage of decaying occluded fronts, troughs and showers or more prolonged rain coming in off the Atlantic in a SW, increasingly W'ly and bit of NW airflow. Rainfall accumulations high in Northern counties over the coming days especially under convective activity. Highest chance of TS in the afternoons /early evening during the modest diurnal heating. A bit of interest anyway in the otherwise dreary weather. will be interesting to see the fine tuning over the coming days. N and NE does the best in this kind of setup along with the midlands, N midlands, E and SE perhaps on Tues.

Fair play to you Meteorite. Your knowledge of thunderstorm development and forecasting is impressive. It's very informative and interesting. I love the new text format your using, similar to the NHC. It gives that storm vibe !

Ah the text I just copied and pasted from a post I did on Facebook, just came out that way, not intentional 😀

Thanks Robwindstrom, find it very interesting and always trying to improve my knowledge and understanding of the dynamic of convection and thunderstorm development and enjoy learning from and sharing an interest with others.

Thanks indeed Meteorite, that's really informative. No pressure now but there's a gap in the market since the UK Convective Weather site ceased operations!

Meteorite 58 West mentioned in forecast for Thundetstorms what's your take on it

Ah Scrabbel, I am only a keen amateur, could never replace Dan Holley, he is such a talent, working for the Met Office now I believe, avid storm chaser in the states during Tornado season, he has some great pics and reports up on X, could learn so much off him, very approachable too, I asked a few questions in the pasts, often dropped in to Boards too keeping an eye on developments over here, if you are reading Dan…. Hi 💁‍♂️😁

Maybe along the NW, N coasts later tonight Storm 10 / into the early morning ( slight chance ) from that area of convection ( I think it is the showery trough ) that might make it into Northern counties and parts of the W, low chance along the W coast overnight but never know , Northern counties best chance tomorrow and some isolated storms slight chance in parts of the country, more from the midlands to the E, N to NE. Plenty of showers countrywide, some heavy falls locally, chance of hail. Not massive MUCAPE from the charts this evening, will see later if any improvement.

    Thunder rumbling in wexford

Big rumble of thunder just south of Kilkenny. Had an impressive hail shower earlier too. Cool for the time of year.

Very heavy, gusty showers with small hail and the odd strike or two can't be ruled out across the East. Although instability is drifting away as we speak.

Torrential Hail and thunder in Kildare now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49 leprechauntimmer123

Instability actually does remain until 3-4pm so we got a few hours left. Cells really popping now with lightning, hopefully we get something in D12!

Wow serious activity in D16 area at the moment.

    Thunder lightning and hail d16

I'm beside the canal in inchicore. I've seen a fair few CGs and intra cloud flashes from that cell to my south, along with regular distant rumbles. Seems to be easing now.

I can see the top of the cell from D12, but unfortunately too far to make out much

And back to sunshine, as if it never happened, apart from the sound of house alarms.

I’m away at the moment and it just has to be when there’s some activity at home! Arghhhhhh it’s always the way isn’t it lol

Lightning has been decently consistent today. Just hoping North Dublin gets something be tween now and 6 which is when instability fully zippers off. Seems like we've been avoided today
