Carbon credits get pooled and sold and have been propping up Tesla for quite a while.

yes anything that reignites the market for smaller cars is a good thing imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,675 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Agreed, so many people could benefit from smaller units. Maybe it could add some pause to the growth in scale of vehicles (looking at crossovers)

All positive …consistent also with our Governments policy to grant aid EV purchase for those who are scrapping older less efficient vehicles and also the reduction of threshold for SEAI EV grant moving fron 60K to 5OK at end of July

A drop in autonomous supervised and non vehicles over the course of this year. Being independently tracked.

On the face of it shows a highly unusual pattern of behavior with competitors increasing rollouts, even across the water in London. It could signify lack of investment in the space with IPO taking limelight elsewhere in the business or issues with the technology coming up more frequently as video based is limited.

I wouldn't read much into that, considering the "journalist" who wrote it.

Reading between the first few lines, i'd put the "decline" down to consolidation.

I don't know the journalist. But looking at the tracking and how they track thats fairly robust monitoring, additionally reviewed and confirmed by another party . The data seems to back up a large reduction in fleet.

I'm not clear what you mean by consolidation ? Or how that would be a positive when your rolling out such a service regionally or globally.

Denmark just approved FSD Supervised under the mutual recognition of the Dutch RDW approval. So DK, EST, LT, NL approved now and B almost there too.

On the slightly worse news the European-wide approval process that expected to be voted for at the end of the June seem to have hit a Stau. So to get the FSD(S) approved in the short term each of the countries will need to recognise it separately. Tesla are working with the legislators of number of European countries including Ireland.

Seems a legit conclusion. A drop in the number of robotaxis is unexpected and concerning.

Might be old news, I've just noticed an option on my Tesla app to enable Telsa MultiPass. It allows you to select third-party chargers from the app and pay for them by using your Tesla account and the car's key card as an RFID card to start the charge (or just by selecting the charger from the app).

The rates seem on par with the providers default rates, or better, a local ePower fast charger in the epower app is 73c per kWh, but 55c in the Tesla app, similar to Electroverse I guess. I have a pile of various RFIDs, but this looks like a pretty handy solution.

The journalist has many anti-Tesla and anti-Musk articles, so it's a strong pattern of negative bias, similar to the "journalism" of Electrek.

By consolidation, I mean that Tesla might be reducing the number of supervised drivers to focus on the FSD unsupervised vehicles. A reduction of 40 to 30 in a month in one location doesn't say anything. They could have taken the cars out of action for any reason, including scheduled maintenance, or review.

I would say it's a positive if they are being cautious with the roll-out, rather than lashing hundreds of the cars onto the streets before they are confident in every conceivable scenario. There is no shortage of people waiting to jump on Tesla/Musk if there is any incident with the driverless cars.

So you've an issue with the person writing the piece as opposed to the data presented.

    You could just say that.

The data doesn't show good information for a rollout if anything you'd expect more vehicle supervised and not to be deployed to increase you're understanding of the issues and speed to repair. More data not less is how these things are solved.

A 25 percent drop in a launch vehicle is serious numbers in a month

Yeah, I have an issue with the journalist, because the reporting is biased and facts tend to become stretched, cherry-picked, or left out entirely.

I just checked the same data the journalist used and with the true numbers visible, I can see the total Texas Fleet is 39 (not 40) and the active number is 32 (not 30). That means the reduction is not 25%, but 18%. 7 vehicles out of 39 off the road is not 10 of 40. Doesn't quite have the same headline grab, does it?

Like I said earlier. Probably scheduled maintenance, but an easy target for someone looking to grab a cheap headline and play with a snapshot of the numbers.

And of course the true dedicated L4/L5 cars that Tesla has only just started production of (cybercabs), have yet to come online as robotaxis

We are blessed to live in the most interesting times ever 😎 Although the overwhelming majority of people think the opposite and are **** themselves or at best have no idea of what is coming. Wasn't it an old Chinese curse to wish people to live in interesting times?

I tend to disagree. There won't be units like this en masse on the roads even in the next decade. The hubris is this space is less technical excellence and mostly results of negative interest rates in credit lending over the last 15 years.

I can understand how and why people get over excited about living in this time. But the appears to be no serious leader here and you'd expect that if we were in any ground breaking territory moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,079 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Decade? Man that is a huge timespan. That is 2036, Can we not make a simple bet with a much shorter timespan about just Tesla cybercabs with no steering wheels or pedals on the road making money with commercial public taxi services. Let's say you win the bet if there are fewer than 1000 in service by the end of next year? Not for money, you seem to have a problem with that. Just for the honour of winning.

    I don't bet.

But Tesla will probably be spun off and sold or closed. Elon has lost interest in it as a business proposition. His interest lies in space or xAi.

I'm really not sure where you see his time being spent in or at Tesla to achieve what you're hoping..

I doubt we will see 500 by year close of 2026 operating as a commerical service.

You don't bet even if there is no money involved? Sorry but that is just lame. You often weazle your way out of your own statements just like that. Or even twist them in further posts as if you never made them in the first place. I'm the opposite. Glad to make clear predictions about an obviously uncertain future. Predictions that might or might not come out. I've no problem if I would clearly lose one of those bets. Which has happened. Often not by much, but I am a bit too optimistic in nature.

So man up on this. You said there won't be any significant numbers of cybercabs by 2036? Give us a number

    I don't bet.

I said they won't reach commerical numbers of 500 this year.

You can hold me to that statement and win if you like ? I literally gave you a number and a statement.

There's your answer bookmark it post it. Come back on Dec 31st with all the plaudits. What more do you need me to do with this comment ? (I'm confused)

"There won't be units like this en masse on the roads even in the next decade."

This bit, not end of 2026. Put a number on it?

    Else it's goalpost moving (again).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,675 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Not sure if you read the posts after that one ?

I gave a number with a bet attached of 2027. I think gave the number 500 by eoy 26. Twice.

That's not goalpost moving I've halfed his number and gave a date attached. How is that goal post moving I made it and even lower achievable target. They're building these now rolling off their own production line. Their brand competitors have rolled out over 400 since the start of this year and they don't even own the production line of vehicles . Merely converting other vehicles which arguably is a slower implementation.

No, no goal posts moved at all not even remotely.

If this cyber cab robo taxi space is serious for Tesla then 500 this year is an incredibly easy target.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 379 ✭✭evftw

The last I heard is that the Cybercab vehicles whose production has started at low scale can't currently be used as autonomous vehicles as there is not enough camera data from them yet. That's why there are so many units built with steering wheels and they have been shipped all over the USA and driven around manually.

The FSD geometrical processing have to be adjusted vehicle by vehicle. It's was not a problem for the Model Y refresh for example as the camera positions didn't change, just the external dimensions a bit. And there are loads of normal customer cars on the road that can be harvested for the data. But this is obviously not possible with the cybercab as there are no third party owners.

The point made by @Mojomaker was clear and specifically addressed your comment about your decade statement. To move the number to a shorter timeframe (6 months —>2026) is what was meant by goalpost shifting, rather than addressing the more sweeping prediction for a decade.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,072 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    That's it basically @JOL1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,675 ✭✭✭✭listermint

No not at all. I made a statement about the sector in my initial statement. The sector . I wasn't even talking about Tesla. I was making the point that I think people are over excited about the time we're in and I don't see this making and massive impact in this space.

Unkel then made it about Tesla, I responded.

Then moto took my initial comment to be a about Tesla.

No one noved goalposts lads at all. And this was a conversation between me and Unkel and numbers of Tesla . Before moto reverted back to me original comment about people being over excited.

So I wanted to summarize and be clear here before being accused of moving random self constructed goal posts.
