The rule is if you come into contact with Gearoid Hegarty it's a free and yellow card for Hegarty. Even if you swing wild at Hegarty it's still his fault.

It's a new rule they brought in around 2022.

It used to take Patrick Horgan so long to come out to hit frees that he'd have to pull in at a service station on the way.

Just getting more angry and desperate every year it drags on. Kind of reminds me of Arsenal the way they were coming so close year after year. Having that monkey on your back can probably make you do strange things, especially when everyone else is pointing at it.

WWould Love to see an end to these ridiculous freetaking routines.. introduce solo and go or quick frees from the hand.. and if a guy wants to take it from the ground.. a shot clock

    Ha ha.

There were calls a few pages back on this thread that he should have gotten a red card. I really don't know what people are looking at. Smaller man runs into bigger man. Smaller man bounces back of him, and comes out worst in the collision. It's not rocket science.

Just on the time-keeping thing. I really cannot understand how the cork players and management did not specifically ask the ref how much exactly is left in the game. We do this at under 12 managing - when there is a little break in play at the end, have a quick chat with the ref to see what's left, then consider what the tactics will be for the final few minutes, depending on if we are winning or losing. In a junior football match at the lowest level possible, if there was a scenario like yesterdays, the first thing everyone on the pitch and in the stands will be thinking, I wonder is this going to be the last strike, or will the ref allow an extra, say 30 seconds for play to continue. The way to determine that is to ask the bloody ref. Takes about 5 seconds, and there was plenty of time to think about it whilst the player was injured. Why is BOC complaining that the ref didn't tell them what time is remaining. It is not the refs job to go around the pitch informing players of what time is remaining in the match.

    Absolutely no need for it.

But it's not just Cork of course. Watch back some of Connolly's frees, start of the second half in front of the City End for example, very clear loud boos from the Limerick end. It does happen at alot of games, possibly more audible from Cork fans as there are always more of them than the opposition.

Limerick won a tight game and were rightfully happy with the result, as Kiely said, we had to be 6 points better to win by 1.

There is plenty of improvement in Cork to be done - they will be happy to work on that and see where that takes them.

When the dust settles, Cork have 2 weeks to prepare for Offaly. Presume it will be in Thurles, probably a double header. What kind of a crowd would Clare, Dublin and Offaly bring between them? Fill the rest of Thurles with Cork fans with ease.

Anyone know when the dates and locations are to be fixed? Wednesday?

Thought James Owens had a good game including getting both penalty calls right.

Diarmuid Healy was excellent first half for Cork, Rob Downey impressed. Bad day meant both sides forwards found it more difficult. That said, felt Cork left Barry Walsh on for a long time. He couldn't get into it at all. Connolly wasn't great again, its interesting in that I thought they had strong options up front but doesn't seem like management feel that way about the bench.

Hegarty or Casey could have been man of the match at the end given their impact on a backs day, I think we've just become so accustomed to massive free scoring games that forward won't get the credit on a day where execution is much morw difficult.

I thought Shane O Briens point was wide, having seen it again I'm not sure how it could have been over. Still all to play for, would suggest its between these two and Galway for the All Ireland.

No, he runs in and drops his shoulder. O Mahony didn't even see him. It was a foul, his 3rd or 4th after the yellow and for that reason probably should have been a 2nd yellow. But didn't matter, game was over. Smart place to foul, stupid from Adam English to start complaining as it could have cost them.

Absolute bollix to try both sides this. I was in the City end by close to the main stand and the Cork people there were absolutely ashamed of the carry on from the Cork section of the main stand. Outside of the odd low level ironic boo of Cork because they were at it all day there was no "two sides".

It was Cork just Cork and they were a disgrace.

its awful…a few Limerick tried it in the terrace near the end and were told by their own to give it a break.

A very blatant foul and would have been a yellow too, but Owens didn't want to send him off at such a late stage, he did foul a few times previously after his first yellow. A red would have made no difference and probably the better option taken realistically.

its seems Will O'Donoghue did! ;-)

    Absolure bollix :)

I was in the Blackrock End and could hear the Limerick booing for that free very clearly - more than the others. You must have closed your ears at some point.

As I have already said, the booing is not on, we can all agree on that.

He did, strange not to tell the free taker but tell a Limerick player. Maybe he asked? Strange no Cork player asked though. Still wouldn't have made any difference, he wasn't scoring from there in a fit.

Of the 19 players Limerick used yesterday, 11 figured in their qualifier loss to Kilkenny in 2017, serious longevity.

Think Marty said Quaid was turning 37 this week. Clearly the best position for longeveity, he still has it too.

Funny all anyone was talking about in the City end including the Cork fans was Cork booing.

Pretend all ye want that everyone is at it but it is a Cork thing and everyone can see that.

Limerick hurling is facing cliff edge scenario for this reason...

Pretend all you want that Limerick didn't boo him - but they did.

Cork fans were commenting on the Cork booing where I was too. Everyone can see that. That's obvious.

the whole debate about cork being or not being informed about whether the last free was the final puck of the ball or not is irrelevant. They had 70 minutes of normal time, 5 minutes of injury time and a further two minutes added by the ref.

That Was my take as well. Just stood his ground . Would have been very unfair to give a yellow there. Was a free but no more. His discipline is far better last few years than before.

He also changed the waterford game when he went inside. Unbelievable touch that not many commented on setting up a point for casey .

On the ref I thought most of the frees he gave were frees. It really is a thankless job. Like what do people actually want? Just blow for frees depending on the team you support?! James owens does make strange decisions but I felt he was fine yesterday. Just people having pre conceived biases.

I'd imagine if a Cork player got a flick on a direct free and scored a goal he'd have allowed it. Ref mightn't have time to whistle. I know a long shot but in recent times it has happened. For Tipp minors v Offaly in the All Ireland minor final 2022. Laois goal v Carlow in the Joe Mc last year etc.

Though against that breeze the free would more than likely have dropped too far out for that to happen.

Personally I feel the Cork players should have showed a bit of leadership. All it needed was over to the ref's ear and 'Ref. Is this the very last puck? Can I pass to someone closer to goal and are we allowed a shot from the man who receives it? If it drops short are you going to blow up, or will there be one more passage of play?'. Just leadership.

The onus would be on the free taker or captain if close by. Just get clarity and not be making the play in ignorance.

But Ben O'Connor, he told Will O'Donoghue but he didn't tell us. Mother of God Ben.

Maybe Will asked, maybe he didn't. Communication is up to yourselves, a controllable. Maybe Owens said one thing to the Cork players about the free and he didn't follow through. Unlikely, I don't know, I don't know. In which case Cork can very rightly feel aggrieved.

yeah it was very noticeable yesterday from both sides. Commentary don't even bother mentioning it anymore , i'd say they're told not to . Rob Downey I think it was did one where he was falling sideways to the ground and somehow got it away..

The last pass for Corks second goal was a blatant throw. Cian Lynch pass to Tom Morrissey for first score of the second half was a throw.

Yeah there will be a massive rebuilding project coming in the next 2-3 years.

Sensible post. Didn't think the last Hegarty one was a yellow either. Agree fully on the ref.

If you looked at Kilkenny for their 9 years of dominance 2006 to 2015 in comparison to Limerick 2017 to 2026 they brought in far more players.

Off the top of my head Kilkenny 2015 had the following players in their top 20 not around in 2006/07. Eoin Murphy, Paul Murphy, Joey Holden, Shane Prendergast, Padraig Walsh, Conor Fogarty, Kieran Joyce, Cillian Buckley, Walter Walsh, TJ Reid & Richie Power (panel members 2007), John Power, Ger Aylward, Lester Ryan, Colin Fennelly.

Yeah Cody always brought 1 or 2 new faces into the starting team during that period, Limerick's success is built around a core of lads born 1994-96 who won the 2015 & 17 u21 titles.

    It's an interesting point OK.

If you told me last year that Darragh O'Donovan would be starting ahead of Adam English in the 2027 Munster final, I wouldn't have believed you.

Do Limerick have enough in the tank for another All-Ireland? Probably yes. They play (probably) Clare in 4 weeks who also have their share of older players.
