hey guys just looking for some opinions on cross eye dominance,

I am right handed and certainly buying a right handed shotgun, mainly for clay shooting. I actually put a deposit on a gun today however after leaving they deposit we discussed cross eye dominance

And I feel it could be a case my left eye is the dominant eye, so now I’m a little bit concerned.

however I could not even think about ever shooting off my left side it be a nightmare for me

It feels so awkward and impossible to come to terms with

Would appreciate some feedback from someone who is right handed and shoots with right handed shotgun but is left eye dominant

    cheers

Im left handed and right eye dominant, I struggled at the start but over time it has gotten better. Takes a bit of getting used too but not impossible

This is interesting to me, I would fire a gun against my right shoulder but my left eye is way stronger than my right

I just kinda got into panic mode after leaving a deposit and was asking **** does this mean I need a left handed gun then, but I was advised no they eye can be worked on.

But after a few at home tests here now I feel it’s more so I’m right eye dominant so can breath a little 😂 but both eyes are nearly equal.

This is my first firearm licence application and can openly admit certainly an inexperienced beginner to the point it’s embarrassing when in chatting in the gun store.

I’m strongly right sided hand wise for certain and defo want to avoid using a left handed gun 🥴

how has that gone for you,? Do you feel you gradually adapted to it over time?

Lots of options. Pilla do a lens. You can put a little dot on your glasses. You can go visit ed lyons in the UK like most of us have done. You can actually close or squint one eye. Some of the best shooters I know manage this.

Or you can get the gun and go put about 5000 rounds through it in the next few months. Only then will you know for definite and then you make a plan and realise that gun fitment is the first hurdle to get over and the most important.

I’m a right handed person but I'm left eye dominant, my right eye is a lazy eye but I have been shooting most of my life left handed left shoulder left eye.
I feel if ur doing clays and ur left eye is dominant you will encounter problems bcos this is the eye that interprets and read the path/speed of the clay and take over causing misses.
I would consider firing off your left shoulder but u may need a proper left handed custom stock depending on your physique.

    I hope this helps.

I have been watching a lot of ed Lyon’s on YouTube so lenses could be my option,

In terms of the gun and shooting off my left, I have left a strong deposit on a gun yesterday so I’m not sure if I can say look can I get a left handed model instead and forget the right handed I just put a deposit on.
I have a lessons over the next to week but I feel I would just never be able to shoot off my left side.

I don’t know I will have to see

Who is the lesson with and who did you buy the gun off of?

I have left 50% deposit on the gun in Lakeland shooting, when arriving I clearly told the lads I am a total beginner so clueless to a point, but do feel guidance/advice from them lacked especially considering I openly stated I’m a clear beginner and lacked.

I have a lesson booked in Lakeland next week up there.

this is my first firearm license application also, and the gun im interested in is a beretta 686 SP sported 12G 30” adjustable 2024 edition

    In 6ft 3” slim build,

My main concern is after a lesson if I’m told look lad your clearly left eye dominant it be best to shoot left handed, then I’m worried I loose a hefty deposit or will I be able to say look lads need left handed gun now can the deposit be put over to that then instead.

I shoot rifles and arrows , cross eye dominant and I got used to using my right eye as i am right handed.
now if im doing target practice with my .22 for to long i will get a bit blurry eyes , but its getting less and less and its only if im shooting for an hour or 2 at the time , when it comes to arrows because there is brakes in between you dont get ah much eye strain .
the other thing is with my hunting rifle when I used to bring it up to take a shot my left eye would automatically focus over my right eye so could not get it to focus down the scope , but now after training my eye when I pull the rifle up to aim my right eye automatically focus down the scope .
so unless your right eye is really bad eye sight I would not be to worried

So is your situation that your right handed? But left eye dominant? But you decided to stick shooting from right side anyway and work on using the non dominant eye ( being your right) ?

    Thanks for the help

great session this morning with colm at Lakeland’s, gent of a man and patience of a saint, wealth of knowledge as suggested.

    Would highly recommend him

thankfully The worry is over, I’m right eye dominant so right hand and right eye.

cheers everyone for the information and advice, thankfully so far people in the shooting seen have bit of maturity and don’t take the piss out of new comers.

any opinion or advice in regards to quantity of ammunition to put of license application? 🤔 I here the boys in blue tend to cut what you apply for in half quite regularly

depends on your setup and where you are also ,

I asked for 1000 rounds for my .22 rifle ,

    1000 for my .22 pistol

And 1000 for my 308 rifle , gave a handful of valid reasons and showed my safe setup and got all that no questions asked.

I will ask for 750-1000 anyway see what happens if the cut the sh*t out of it ridiculously I will appeal
