Poor summers day. It's dry now but boy is it cool.

Clouds of the day : looks like a shelf cloud

Agree with a lot of that. Indeed standards are generally good in Ireland and if you shop around you can find good value, though unfortunately a lot of the prices here are exorbitant these days.

I asked the question because, personally, no way would I plan a staycation in Ireland due to the climate. Weather is a big priority for me on a holiday in the sense that I seek dry above all and after that fairly seasonal temps. For example I love a trip to cold dry places like Scandanavia in winter and likewise I seek out the heat in summer. That said, if a city break in spring/summer, 22- 25C ish is perfect. The only way I like to do a trip at home is a spur of the moment thing in a good weather spell. Planning ahead is just too dodgy here, imo.

Dry here in north Longford after a wet night. A breezy 11c atm, rain not far away though it looks like. Lots of GAA to watch today, so it will be an armchair afternoon.

I think "mildest" might be the more appropriate term for that stat.

Given that the 99% of the time, it can't be described as "warm" in Ireland in spring!

We had a lot less frost than normal, more rain and lower pressure.....milder

Dry at the moment in Meath. Cloudy and breezy.

Lovely wildflowers in my old meadow. Old red clover, cats ear, sorrel, stitchworts, ribwort and birdsfoot trefoil.

Responding to this, I don't have exact stats to hand for Ireland but using the monthly data graphs on met.ie, we can see this illustrated. For example, below is the daily maximum and minimum temps for June 2025 to June 2026 for Dublin Airport and its 1991-2020 averages. I want to focus on specifically the thick red line (the 1991-2020 average daily max temp). If we carefully look at late May compared to early June, there is a very slight dip (moreso slight because there is a large range on the Y-axis so any differences will need to be looked at a microscopic level basically). If I were to estimate, this dip would be like 0.2 or 0.3C which for an average over 30 years is actually pretty significant and even more significant as these aren't absolute daily means, they are running 31 day averages. This is illustrated in the other Irish station graphs as well.

Physical reason why this would be the case? I do not know. Tendency to bring down more of a polar or arctic maritime airmass following a warmer period in late May?

A lot less growth though in fields and veg gardens. Plants need that direct heat with less cloud cover.

Weather similar. Overcast, drizzle at times. Seen Halloween stuff in the shop this weekend. It’s a bit early but the weather isn’t.

today turning out much better than I expected in Meath, a mostly dry day, fairly windy, feeling very mild and some sunny spells, however I think the evening will turn wetter.

Torrential rain here now in North County Dublin and rain forecast for rest of week, a horrendous start to summer 2026.

My sons Sports Day is on this week, in normal year they might change day if forecast wet, not a chance this year, every day looking as bad as the next!

The only weather difference between a day in June and October in Ireland is the amount of day light.

This is the worst summer since last year and the one before that etc

It's brighter out now at this time of the evening then it's been all afternoon. Coming back to this horrorshow Cork city weather this afternoon was grim.

Isnt it just awful to see the longest evenings of the year covered in cloud. Hopefully a bit of high pressure soon. Its a bad as 6 or 7 degrees in mid winter and no frost.

Blanket cloud all day topped off with about two hours of incessant torrential rain all evening.

Lovely. Forecast for the week doesn't seem much better

Embedded squall line passing over me in south Dublin just now, the rain is coming down in stair rods, roaring on the roof of the house.

Prolonged torrential rain in North Kildare this evening, relentless for a few hours now. Quite a lot of spot flooding and surface water around the place. Can't hear the telly with it.

Nice bright sunny morning in north Longford. A crisp and cool 8c. That low sun is a bastard when driving into it in the morning.

June is already wetter than average now in Dublin. 67.4mm of rain in the first 7 days compared to 1991-2020 full month average of 64.0mm (105%).

Have to go back to 1958 (79.7mm) to find a wetter first 7 days of June and 1955 (83.0mm) was the only other one wetter.

    Airport data.
