The price gouging for the train journey is insane, the lack of infrastructure is insane.

I saw a video explaining the reason for these prices. It is pure greed from FIFA. They get all the money for the tickets but the cities hosting the matches are left to foot the bill for all the security and organisation of it. To recoup some of the cost they hiked the price of the train journey. I don't remember which city has increased theirs from $12 to $150 and closed all pedestrian entrances.

The costs are absolutely insane between the hotels, the dynamic pricing of match tickets, the trains, the food, the flights and parking.

Apparently FIFA Is forbidding spectators to enter stadiums with bottles of water or empty bottles so you must buy it from them. Hotels are complaining they don't have the occupancy rate they were told they would get.

I have generally much preferred the World Cups where I was an adult and could decide where and when I could watch them and also have a much greater appreciation of the football being played.

Too many **** teams sadly in this tournament (truth is Ireland are better than close to 30 of the teams in this years competition) means the group stages are a glorified round of friendlies.Although having said that sometimes 2 **** teams playing against each other can be entertaining.

I'm going to watch as many games as I can but will be avoiding all the media coverage around it as it'll just be wall to wall Trump and America bashing etc which gets boring after a while.

Norway are my dark horses but love to see Ghana or Senegal do well.

Ridiculous England hasn't hosted a world cup in 60 years , it'd be one if the best places to have one as they've bucket loads of stadiums and small enough to travel round (as long as they got the public transport right)

Need to go back to 1 country hosting it and have it in europe more often , euros ahould go back to being 1 country or 2 small ones hosting it.

The problem is the cost to host a world cup. It cost a lot of money with FIFA getting majority of the benefits. What brings money is tickets, sponsoring, TV rights and it all goes to FIFA. What is left for cities and countries to get a profit? Not much: vat and taxes. More people using public transportation and that's about it. On the other, they have to pay for security, extra train, buses and extra manpower needed for all that. I read that Canada expects to lose money overall on the event. However, FIFA is expected record earnings.

FIFA (and the Olympics) only get this once every 4 years, so they gouge the s**t out of the hosts and the people.

UEFA on the other hand are less of a shower of pricks, they have the very lucrative Champions League every year so don't need to gouge as much.
