Ahh Yes, I forgot about that. I think I've often got them as close as a week prior. It's gonna be a sweat so.

Seen as all 8 of your posts seem to be about group chats I'm going to take a hard pass on that one. Likely a fast way to give away your number to loads of scammers, avoid folks

Any of the regular heads going to David Byrne at St. Anne's Park this Sunday? We're making the trip down, first gig of the year which isn't like us.

Enjoy. David Byrne still one of the best ea gigs at ep. Met David Byrne watching the knife afterwards.

Whether people like it or not, commercial country is main stream these days. Could well see her or someone like her.

Article in the Sunday Times Culture this week on the perilous state of music festivals in the UK. Nearly a thousand pre Covid, down to 592 this year and falling. Lots of stuff that you'd know but concerning nonetheless. 'The multistage greenfield site days are probably quite numbered' would be a worrying soundbite. Green Man in there as a model that's bucking the trend. The independent model, with no corporate overlords to pander to. EP take note.

why would EP take note? The only reason EP still exists is the sponsorship money. It had lost millions before FR took full ownership/control and expanded the corporate branding.

It loses money on a ticket revenue vs costs basis. Sad to say but without Heineken etc throwing millions over last decade EP would have been dead or a much smaller endeavour

One of my children was at Kingfishr on Saturday, and they apparently teased a "big announcement" in "coming days"…

It's just a discussion. Why would the UK promoters of Ireland's biggest festival pay attention to why festivals in the UK are struggling? You know, obviously it's relevant. Reading and Leeds haven't sold out yet in a fallow year for Glasto. It's interesting, right? EP still flying it, long may it continue but the things that are making it tough in the UK, narrowing pool of headliners, constant recycling and sharing of big names, scarcity of your big rock acts, reluctance of pop acts to choose festivals over bigger paying arenas etc etc. You don't think this will ever impact EP? You don't think there'll ever be a danger that the corporate kings might ever reassess whether this is the best way to throw their cash about? That EP might have to put a bit more thought into how they attract and keep punters? As I say, it's a discussion board.

reading and Leeds doing well this year and heard they are very pleased about how new direction etc is going with sales. Won’t be shocked if both sites end up selling out or close to it. Reading/leeds are different offerings though, a glasto fallow year was never going to affect R/L sales.
the narrowing pool of headliners is overstated. Look at EP, 4 of its headline acts are new to big festival headline level. You’ve got the likes of Olivia dean etc who will be headlining festivals next year.
Scarcity of big rock acts has been talked about for decades, music has become less of a big label funded and media outlet mono culture so “rock” as the dominant music sound has lost some of its gripe. Still plenty of Rock music out there just less culturally dominant as thee sound and no longer the bedrock of festivals.
Acts especially arena acts tour in cycles, it’s nearly always a mix of arenas runs , festivals and summer shows across the 18 month or 2 year period they are touring an album.
Timing is more of issue, EP ia tied into a particular weekend (apart from when Melvin moved it for Calvin Harris) so that is historically why EP overrelies on local headliners in prior years.
No offence to CMAT but returning this year after 2024 is a bit too soon even with her additional success

Sponsorship and ticket sales go hand in hand, maybe not immediately, poor ticket sales will reduce a sponsor(s) interest in the years after.

To stillills point if I was in FR’s shoes I’d be very keen to understand what’s happening to festival ticket sales in the UK.

I would agree, just saying and they'd be a typical EP (relatively) cheap out headliner.

if you’re headlining or sub headlining EP you ain’t cheap. Bands/agents know their worth and demand pay reflective of the stage order.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,087 ✭✭✭✭Macy0161

Well it would definitely be cheaping out on originality…

already doing that having CMAT play high profile slot after playing in 2024.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 336 ✭✭piggysiren

CMAT is actually good and actually has value internationally.

CMAT is a quality artist. Kingfishr are trash.

Anyone know if it will be CMAT followed by Fontaines on main stage Sunday, or if CMAT likely to headline Electric Areana? I had assumed she'd be too big for EA at this stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,474 ✭✭✭nc6000

CMAT will be on the main stage alright, not clear which night she is doing but I'd assume she will be on before whoever the main headliner is for that night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,243 ✭✭✭julyjane

I thought I heard somewhere the Saw Doctors are on the main stage 5pm Sunday followed by Fontaines

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,038 ✭✭✭Fanirish

Fontaines won’t be thar early. 10pm or so for them
