IIRC Real Madrid's first offer was €1m, and ended up paying €10m for Trent.

There was a negotiation involved, it wasn't just a one time lucky offer.

As far as I understand it, there was no recall option. When Emery made it clear Elliott wasn't part of his plans, there was no way back for him to Liverpool without amending the original let-to-buy contract… which the clubs could not agree on. The whole arrangement was bizarre, and not a reflection on Elliott's talent and contribution to the squad.

Liverpool should use that €10m and loan Trent next season. I can’t imagine he wants to be Real’s back up right back. And there isn’t a chance in hell that Jose will play him midfield, remember what he said about Rooney playing in midfield? Slecualists…

City have had a bid rejected by Forest for Anderson. Only a matter of time before that one goes through

That doesn't make much sense though. You don't need a specific recall option when Villa clearly didn't want to keep him anyway, and Villa didn't want him to the point that they wouldn't give him gametime even when it might have suited them to.

So in the scenario where Liverpool actually think he is important and could use him, it would be the easiest contract in the world to get amended. Liverpool want him back, Villa want to send him back, what exactly is the barrier to making it happen? It would be the shortest phone call in history.

Occams razor says then that Liverpool don't rate Elliot and preferred to leave him there in the hope that Villa got into a situation where they had to play Elliot and go through with the deal.

Liverpool didn't want him back I think is true and part of it, the other part is that the loan fee was £5m but it was only payable this summer as part of the £35m obligation

So the deal that was agreed screwed any way to get him out unless they waived any fee completely. Even in January Villa wouldn't have wanted to pay for a player they didn't use and Liverpool won't have wanted to set a precedence of giving people loans for free if they don't play the player.

more boring than that I’d say. Villa were paying a 5 million pound loan fee, which they wanted canceled if the deal was cancelled. So there was a stalemate.

I think he’d have been useful to have had back alright, but at a cost of losing a 5 million payout for a few months availability, plus taking back on his wages of course (and when Slot himself obviously didn’t fancy him so much), I get it. Might be a way back for him under Iraola though, useful player - though I wouldn’t blame him for going somewhere on a permanent deal with guaranteed first team football at this stage.

Most likely. Forest want more than what Arsenal paid for Rice based on a few reports so there'll probably be a bunch of dickering and pointless Romano updates in between

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,802 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Yeah I think that that one is already agreed myself, and the clubs are just letting it play out in public to suit their own narrative.

Forest can say that they put up a brave fight. City can say that they got their man. Both are the good guys to their fans.

i would absolutely love trent at city and i think he would be class there.

Talk of anderson been done for between 100-120m, big numbers im not sure myself. Feels like hes overrated, id have thought 80m based on his career to date. 2 years ago he was a failed winger to an extent now hes a record breaking centre midfielder despite not winning a thing in his career, playing in any big matches and not even a team of the year place. Its a lot for potential despite the underlying stats being good.

and it certainly implies that City arent too worried about any big relegation penalties coming along presently..

It is hard to judge Anderson, he didn’t do much for Newcastle, had a year at Forest playing Nuno sit back and break football, Man City will not play like that and then a year when the club were a mess with multiple managers. I didn’t watch that many Forest games last year, most time I saw them they were outplayed in midfield, not all on Andrerson but he was a part of it. He is a very different player to Bernardo Silva if that is who he is replacing. Nico Gonzalez hasn’t played much 2nd half of the season so he would upgrade the squad ahead of him. Is Rodri expected to stay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,424 ✭✭✭POKERKING

all fair points. The underlying stats for anderson are excellent, he is number 1 for all the key ones. I just think hes a level down for what u want for that kind of money. Two years as a centre midfielder in the prem as before that he was a winger at newcastle is not enough to justify the fee for me.

hard to know with rodri he either goes this summer or next for free, my moneys on next for free which is fine.

Nico G is a funny one, he did really well when played but something happened between him and pep in the last few months which seen him not even in the matchday squad. Maybe new manager revitalizes him as theres a role for him imo

Iraola officially confirmed. Interesting to see how he handles the step up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,883 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I would say Foden is beaming to see the back of Pep too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,032 ✭✭✭doc_17

I’d say more than Foden might be happy to see him gone, he probably is exhausting. But still, he brought Foden’s game to the top level.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,883 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He brought Foden's game to the bench. I don't see any major progress in Foden's game and if anything he has been neutered.

    PFA player of year nominees

    Cherki

    Fernandes

    Gabriel

    Haaland

    Raya

    Rice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,032 ✭✭✭doc_17

He brought Foden from the academy to the best player in the premier league in 23/24. Something has happened since, either Foden is experiencing burn out, or just a loss of form.

He was still playing at his best when Pep dropped him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭ronjo

Always seemed to be that he played his best when team built around him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,412 ✭✭✭✭8-10

And Cherki is also nominated for Young Player of the Year

Nico O'Reilly will win that easily anyway but must have been a poor year - Max Dowman, with 150 minutes of PL action, is nominated!

Rio Ngumoha also only played in about half the PL games, mostly as sub, and got nominated

So did Kobe Mainoo who didn't play much at all in the first half

Kroupi is the only name on the list you could say would actually be someone who contributed a lot as a young player after O'Reilly. Cherki seems too old but that award normally always has an older player on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 30,771 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Cherki an attacking midfielder is nominated despite being outscored by Zubimendi.

Very overrated and is known for his antics more than his actual game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,620 ✭✭✭giveitholly

What has his supposed "antics" got to do with how he played on the field?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭ronjo

I think Kroupi might be in with a shout there. He has been excellent.

Not really sure how Ngumoha and especially Dowman got in there but it shows how rated they are by fellow pros

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,941 ✭✭✭ronjo

only realised now he scored 4 premier league goals just. thought he would have had more.

Yeah, you would think fellow pros wouldnt like that carry on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,412 ✭✭✭✭8-10

I think Emi Martinez winning multiple Yashin Trophies and other awards shows how little antics comes into it when voting for these things

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 30,771 ✭✭✭✭Quazzie

Well he got more headlines for his theatrics than he did for his football. A good player but shouldn't be up there with some of the other names mentioned. And at 22 should be nowhere near the young players category considering to of the others nominated are under 18

Bruno and Kroupi should win for me

Bruno for obvious reasons and Kroupi has been seriously impressive from what I've seen of him. Looks a real talent there that could go to the very top.
