Do you mean she'll be on the cover of the RTÉ Guide !

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Neighbours did this years ago. It was the death of the elderly lady, despite being the healthy one, as she never wanted to move. Himself then spent years in a nursing home, as there was no-one to care for him. The two houses were only a 100 or so metres from each other.

That seems to be the preserve of the NKM starlets.

if only she was with NKM. She’d get the Guide, profiles in VIP and Evoke where she discusses the genesis of her idea whilst staring into the distance, accompanied by some style shots standing in her kitchen looking out into her back garden (accompanied by a list of where her trousers and jumper and shoes can be bought) and then the chance to go on each of the other NKM stars radio, tv, or podcasts and everyone could sing “everything is awesome” together - and they could get a sponsor too. Or maybe some of them could sign up to be Good Neighbour Brand Ambassadors?

I don’t even want to move but this is such an incredible idea I think I’m going to! 🙄

We all wanted more RTE transparency but some only wanted it as dum dum ammunition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,145 ✭✭✭RoTelly

    Ammunition for what exactly?

I have repeatedly said if RTÉ had done a decent job in terms of content provision much of this ammunition would be blank shots, instead because they have so little to show for themselves the question has to be "what were they doing?/what are they doing?"

In the mean time the legislation to go to the Oireachtas to move them under the C&AG

Way back when D4bes was DG she appoint Frances Abeton to the role of Director of Operations and Production Services. She subsequently left the role after just over a year in the role. Later, she was involved in some real estate venture that went south (though this doesn't see to be why she left RTÉ…. did she get a redundancy package?).

CTO, Richard Waghorn took over that directorship, his title has change many times, but the are now looking for a new person to take over the role.

Applicants should have a career that includes evidence of wasting taxpayer money, a demonstrable lack of accountability, an absolute aversion to resignation, be accustomed to fine dining, and ideally be related to two or more current or former staff members (though exceptions will be made contingent on surname).

Tut tut Pether, you forgot a most important competency- be able to blag your way into areas you haven’t paid for based on the little ‘mentch’ on the stations airwaves weeks or months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,135 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

Fair, but that’s more of an on-air “talent” requirement. This role is for a management position, and as we’ve seen RTÉ only hire the best.

Despite his claims that everything is awesome, that the scandal was best thing to ever happen to him, that he’s free from the constraints of RTÉ now, that he’s his own boss and free to do whatever he wants etc. it seems that the two central figures on one side of The Ryan Tubridy Pay Scandal just can’t let it go.

I’ve said this before, but the longer they keep doing this the longer ot stays top of mind for people - someone should explain The Streisand Effect to The Toyman. It also decreases any chance of any return to RTÉ which despite the protestations appears to be an aim.

Should this eventually go legal (and the only logical reason that would be would be for a financial claim) it would further sully the already tarnished reputation of “the most trusted man in Ireland”.

We know from The Toyman’s own admissions at the Oireachtas Committee that he’s just a simple man and doesn’t understand complicated matters but someone really should have a word here and prevent further damage.

Can’t wait though for the London Diary tomorrow where The Toyman is going to reveal more details about how he’s going to be donating some of the free books publishers send him to a charity shop or bookshop in Dublin! Ryan has been pushing this all week on Instagram with the gusto of the self-promotional efforts he used to engaged in in advance of The Toy Show. Most people don’t need to publicise their charitable efforts….but not The Toyman!

If you’re in the market for an unread copy of a book though you might pick up a bargain. You’ll likely have to have a selfie taken with a man who used to avoid them like the plague but now is desperate for them however as The Toyman promises to linger while the books are sold - some might say that’s too high a price. How the mighty have fallen.

Transparency at RTE is what everyone wants.

    Give us the info Bakie.

    What's he scared of?

I’m sure you’ll be equally demanding of transparency from The Toyman and Mr. Kelly…..

I won’t hold my breath on that one.

RTE, as a publicly funded organisation, should be transparent I think most will agree.

Bakie should just give everyone this info, if he's nothing to hide that is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,135 ✭✭✭Peter Dragon

As you were very fond of saying yourself there for about a week - “lol”.

Do you even know what’s being requested? I suspect you do, and that it’s opinion-based.

“Under data protection laws, there is a specific exemption for confidential expressions of opinion. If an opinion about the requesting individual was given in confidence, or on the understanding it would remain confidential, an organization may not have to disclose that specific opinion to the person.””

The advice of RTÉ’s external solicitors are that these meet the above criteria. Are you seriously suggesting RTÉ should ignore the advice of their own legal advisors?

An oft mis understood and mis used clause in GDPR. People are entitled to have their individual views at a meeting (where a variety of people are giving viees) protected, however, this does not extend to conclusions, facts or reasons for decisions appearing in official reports or correspondence with third parties.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,303 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

What’s Bakie afraid of the public finding out, some internal conspiracy to deflect attention from executive failure onto the perfect fall guy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,145 ✭✭✭RoTelly

KB4 is just doing as they did B4.

I'd say that not much is said, and if the poor fall guy feels that way why doesn't he seek answers from D4bres, after all she is to blame.

I don't see how keeping it secret keeps anything away from the door TBH. but perhaps there are significant privacy issues for the people no longer in RTÉ.

I’m sorry the explanations provided as to why this information doesn’t need to be provided appears to be too complicated for you to understand. 🤷‍♂️

Or do you believe everything said in private should be available to the public?

it’s great to see your newfound concern for public funds. Normally you’re congratulating parties who convinced public bodies to pay way over the top for services and congratulating said parties on their negotiating skills.

This is a welcome change of direction for you. I’m sure therefore you’ll be asking The Toyman to pay some interest on the €150,000 he held for almost 2.5 years before returning it. As the most trusted man in Ireland this would be a most welcome development in restoring some of that lost trust. It is public money after all……

More delicious tales from The Toyman this week in his London Diary and elsewhere - complete with pointing pics! I’d love to say these are bonus pointing pics but alas no, they’re in constant rotation, with evoke.ie being particularly fond of the one above - taken as The Toyman was on his way to Joe Duffy’s retirement drinks do at which Jim Jennings made an appearance despite his ill health.

In this week’s London Diary The Toyman once again tells us about Les Miserables. I’m feeling a bit miserables myself after hearing the same story told for the umpteenth time but it is hard to think of a few hundred words for the column every week I suppose…..

Anyway in this week’s London Diary The Toyman engages in some trademark name dropping and tells us all about his free tickets to the musical in both London and Dublin - old habits do indeed (like the title of a Bruce Willis movie) “die hard”.

The Toyman intriguingly describes his time in London as “When I lived in London for two years”, ignoring the fact that he’s there today broadcasting in 3rd month or so of a new radio show that despite looking for I can’t find a single review of online. It’s almost as if the show and the host are completely off radar for reviewers Intriguing.

Evoke’s obsession with all things Toyman/NKM didn’t end there, we also get a bonus Toyman feature, this time a “review” (lol) of another Bookshelf Live podcast which is a press release praising the Galway show and promoting the Dublin show. Needless to say, The Toyman had the last laugh. Toymantasticness a go go!

    IMG_6792.jpeg

Not to be outdone by Evoke in publishing press releases The Journal wrote on matters RTÉ, that The Toyman also has some things to say about media consumption and of course, The Late Late Show, complete with another pointing pic.

    IMG_6795.jpeg

It’s the standard boilerplate by numbers Toyman article in that it tells us how amazing he’s doing, and promotes the upcoming Gaeity Bookshelf live gig - tickets are still available btw. Fellow NKM star Baz will join The Toyman for some top notch bants too.

It’s intriguing that the man who was at the helm of the dumbing down of TLLS with its Country Music specials, GAA specials, Valentine’s Day specials etc now backs the incumbent to make it more serious. If only he had a voice when he was the host…..🤷‍♂️

The article/press release is the usual propaganda but the comments section has some delicious ripostes if one was interested in such things.

What is this weird obsession with Tubridy? In terms of RTE he is history. Yes he has a profile but that tells it's own story about how relevant RTE is these days. He's not the only person who have left RTE over the last few years and it's done them very little harm.

A far bigger story is how many people watched the champions League via dodgey boxes despite RTE broadcasting it. Look at the GAA with its own streaming service. A huge part of this is that a significant number of people don't have RTE. People watch stuff on streaming services and don't have access to RTE. Similar point about podcasts and radio. RTE have not kept up with the times. That's a far far bigger story and ultimately problem for RTE.

The RTE player is painful to use. The dodgy boxes must be more reliable. I am also sure they don't insist customers have to rewatch a load of adverts again, if they do happen to crash.

No “weird obsession” (some very offensive terms there) at all, just updating people on the main character in The Ryan Tubridy Pay Scandal and his merry adventures and jolly japes and of course Ms. Forbes when she makes an appearance and of course other members of the RTÉ “family” and the wider organisation when it makes the news.

It’s hard to invest in the technology required to bring the player up to modern standards when RTÉ have to pay the top talent so much to keep the BBC, ITV, NBC, etc from poaching them. And that’s before the executives, management, and staff get paid. Or junkets.

We might get a previous favourite excuse from RTÉ though that the content is available on other platforms too……🤷‍♂️

RTE biggest problem is not a lack of funding, it's a lack of financial discipline. Year after year, taxpayers are told more money is needed, yet viewers are served repeats, imported programmes that can be watched for free online, I'd like to know how much is spent for these  repeats.... It's no just the imports get repeated, they do it with their own programs weekly.

RTE also have a love of building new studios in new buildings, when they get a few bob. My understanding is the radio centre has multiple sitting empty and in disrepair.

The crunch will come when the 720m dig out runs out. I don't see the promised cost cuts materialising. It will probably result in a BBC like move, and the rest of Montrose turned into apartments.

That €720m won’t last long if The Toyman manages a triumphant return….

There’ll also be raises due for world class talent like Carl Mullan, and working mums like Kathryn Thomas, Doireann Garrihy, and Anna Geary.
