I usually associate this warm monsoony deluge weather mixed with some pleasant weather with later in the summer. It's often nice at this time and cooler at night. El niño perhaps.

That very loud bang hit us at 3 am ,woke us all , set off car and house alarms everywhere and absolutely torrential rain . Continued for about 40 mins, moving away . Very scary alright , it took a few minutes to realize what it was that woke us and thought the roof was coming off !

Feels cooler and less muggy since but heavy rain on and off all day

good to see some positive news on the weather later in June. A day like today is all too familiar in an Irish summer, cool, breezy showery. These are the longest days of the year and you’d love to be able to enjoy them outside without the wind howling around you or having a blanket and a fleece on. Already missing last week.

an absolute pig of a day here in Meath, frequent heavy showers, some of them downpours, lots of surface water now around my driveway.

Took a half day and played 18 holes of golf. Very pleasant with just one light shower. Rest of the week looks rather wet.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Great photo. Where is that forest?

I am out admiring the orchids at the lake shore at sunset.

There 's virtually a storm going on here - was that forecast? It's actually not raining but too windy to do anything in the garden.

Met have finally acknowledged the climate stations that broke the May record on May 26th. They're no less official than the 25 synoptic ones.

    • Abbeyfeale Co Limerick with 30.9 °C
    • Clonmel, Co Tipperary with 30.9 °C
    • Castleisland, Co Kerry with 30.8 °C
    • Durrow, Co Laois with 30.8 °C
    • Kilkenny (Greenshill), Co Kilkenny with 30.8 °C
    • Killarney (Muckross House), Co Kerry with 30.7 °C
    • Fethard (Parsonshill), Co Tipperary with 30.7 °C

Stations that provisional broke the May record will now undergo rigorous investigation to determine the new Irish air temperature record for May.

omg 31°c in may it’s exceptionally historic perhaps if it was July we’d see 35°c , the war, air came from the Atlantic and as it was sinking it heated up went around by Denmark and western Germany and around to us with the air heating all that time , classic heat dome which is rare for us

It's just a row of trees along the edge of the local park, not a forest!

Fairly crap day again today but I don't mind this sort of weather as long as it doesn't overstay it's welcome, at least it's interesting to look at with a few thunderstorms thrown in

Conditions so much worse than expected today around Baldonnel, Lucan, Celbridge. Ongoing thunder and absolute deluges, also quite windy. Nothing but wellies would have kept me dry today, and unfortunately I didn't bring them! My good raincoat also let in water and my shopping was destroyed walking home - soggy bread, soggy biscuits, all ruined. :( We're really paying for the good week.

75km/h gusts at my location today 🙈

OMG THAT WIND in Kerry, was this forecast? It's relentless all day and looks like we have it most of tomorrow too. I've spent the day trying to get outside and stake up my plants, verbena has lots of broken stems, spearmint is flattened. Other shrubs losing leaves and buds!

Cold, grey, wet, insessent wind, leaves being ripped off the trees, it must be June , it must be Ireland, the rot is truly setting in now, what an abomination of a June day. Central heating and lights on.

Mother a god, what an atrocious climate.

Grey cold dismal evening couped up inside while the rest of Europe are enjoying the start of summer and outdoor living. Think I’ll fill a hot water bottle and take a sleeping tablet.

Outside of Iceland it must be one of the grimmest most depraved spots at times in Western Europe in summer to be located.

yes , quite depressing, its always harder getting storms and rain in Summer than Winter, because we have hopes and expectations ………..and memories of good Summers in our past. I feel like lighting the fire, putting on a film, and its only 6pm on a June evening!

On a separate note Sabalenka was knocked out of the French Open today …………and she blamed the wind!

another pig of a day here in Meath although at least the showers are not as intense as they were yesterday but still fairly miserable conditions and very autumnal.

insane rain here at Dunshaughlin, it's like something out of the 80s action movies, lots of surface water and gutters gushing with water.

Grey and Dismal with a bit of a gale in Oranmore, drizzle soaked wind.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

got off the train this evening in Limerick Jumction. The wind would cut you. Dark clouds overhead. Outside of the brightness our seasons are invariably the same. Last week was an oasis of what life could be like for the summer although I take the point tbah it was too hot for some. For me it was perfect though.
