    distant thunder in Kildare

I think the focus was always on rainfall amounts due to the shear damage the floodwaters alone caused.

I was 8 years old at the time. My memories actually tie in with the post above from @paulhac. Grew up in Tallaght which was right in the firing line. I recall standing in my side garden with my mates earlier in the afternoon and seeing fork lightning in the distance.

I was so terrified by the thunder and lightning during the night I legged it into my parents bed only to find all of my 3 older siblings already in there 😅. It went on all night and was wild. The worst we ever experienced.

Next morning surveying the damage my mother spotted a small amount of damage to her bedroom reveals and to this day is convinced it was a lightning strike, we'll never know.

We know a house in a neighbouring estate was hit by lightning and suffered fire damage to the roof, all occupants were OK but I cannot find any written reports about this.

Just had a couple of major thunder blasts here in Portarlington, didn't see any lightning though. Waiting for Met to update but I see Blitzortung has a few registered strikes just north of us.

Best chance the midlands, N midlands,N, NE And E but maybe E Connaught but if they don't occur in next hour or so the probability moves E under the passage of the trough during the bit of modest warming in the afternoon.

Kildare aka thunderstorm alley the last few days. Had to drive on the M7 on Monday evening during the storm and it was some of the worst conditions I have driven in.

North Dublin is certainly getting it’s fair share of thunder lately!

    No thunder

Quite persistent activity. Lightning missed us and was too far back I the rainiin D12. More storms to strengthen as CAPE peaks at 3-6pm, so the East is still in for a potential show

Is there something topographical about north Kildare that aids these storms? I mean it's pretty flat land so maybe it's just recency bias but if there's one person who really regularly reports thunder here, it's our Pad in North Kildare.

Mad how many cells just light up once they hit north Kildare and then seem to stop producing shortly thereafter (though again, can't fully trust the lack of new strikes on the likes of the ME map).

Didn't hear any rumbles in north Dublin (D9) from those cells that started sparking as they left the east coast, or the ones NW of me. Perhaps my office soundproofing is a bit too top notch.

I work from home in D15 in an attic office and I can feel the thunder through my desk. Two serious rumbles so far very close.
Edit: and now all the house alarms.

I've noticed this for years as well, definitely not just a recent thing! Out of everyone who posts here I'd say he reports thunder far more than anyone else

Loud thunder in D12, lightning in blanchardstown, and i think I just seen a strike out of my eye. This is about t get exciting soon if it doesn't weaken

Seems like there's not much robust activity despite us peaking in CAPE. Half of these showers moving NE may develop into quick clusters as they move into Dublin for the next bit. Hopefully there's another alright storm on route

Fresh cell developing in West Wicklow now heading for Sth Dublin, the mountains might wipe it out though?

Putting up both charts of todays sferics that were detected as they both can pick up sferics that the other misses, the ATD which Netweather below uses from the Met Office although now more balanced tuning can be more inclined and biased to pick up CG's and miss some of the Cloud to Cloud that Blitzortung picks up.

Little bands of convective showers aided by little instability across the East currently. The odd rumble/strike not ruled out but this marks a generally active sequence for the island over since the 8th where ensemble confidence seems to suggest potential activity across Ulster/Leinster. The East is getting it good this year for once!

Is there anywhere that I would find the amount of rainfall for that period in Naas. Close to the M7 business park and B&Q would be brilliant if it could be found.
