Its not ridiculous at all. I'd say you havent a clue about the logistics and how venues are decided. Plus a lot of the stakeholders actually have jobs so cant be on the phone all day sorting it out.

Alas, J Burns has chosen to try and justify the disciplinary anomalies so evident in the organisation.

I pity him, modern inter County competitions demands the utmost cynicism and single minded pursuit of victory at all cost from participants.

An amateur organisation struggling to keep up with the well financed entities competing for the ultimate prize.

Apparently, according to Jarlath, indiscretions as clear as day to anyone fit to watch a live game are now being ignored because officialdom on the day neither addressed the issue ( McGuinness’s entry onto the pitch and engagement with an opposing player ) nor mentioned it in the match report.

The concern apparently is it's too risky to revisit this because there might be a law savvy member of the Donegal outfit who could successfully challenge any punitive outcome. So best not to bother and we'll all move on.

The GAA is a great organisation in many ways but it needs to direct resource to the issue of discipline and procedures.

How much of a problem can a LOI game really be for Galway ?

It's 4000 people max. Would not need any major Garda presence and I have seen Limerick handle worse along with a big hurling match.

Also the games are on different days.

Galway United are using the GAA's Pearse Stadium while work is done to Terryland. They are due to play a number of games there, on Saturdays (no idea why Saturday specifically), starting with one that weekend. I suppose at a push you could play the Soccer Saturday and the Westmeath game Sunday, not sure how feasible it is with pitch linings etc

I didn't realise they were playing in Salthill.

Google had the LOI game down as Friday but I see Galway United have TBC.

Officially confirmed : Louth V Armagh in Inniskeen on the Sunday, throw in time to be confirmed.

I guess some season ticket holders won't be able to go now. Thatll be interesting, not sure this has happened before.

Unless there's greyhound racing on Saturday, Dexcom stadium should be available for Galway United as Connacht rugby's season is over.

    This too shall pass.

Wasn't it the case for Armagh v Antrim last year?

Louth must not want their supporters to get in.

Armagh has something like 3500 season ticket holders.

    Inniskeen holds just 6000.

The rest of the tickets will probably go to the clubs and not Ticketmaster or Supervalue.

    Louth v Armagh 1pm Sunday

    Tyrone v Mayo 3:30pm Sunday

    Both live on RTÉ

I’d like him to explain how both incidents are different and I don’t mean because Ger was red card and Jim not or based on how referees reported it or not but actually based on what each persons actions on the day

In that case it was the Ulster Council which wanted to move it out of Corrigan Park. They did not take the learnings from Newbridge or Nowhere. There will be no more edicts from on high trying to force counties to move against their will.

Would it be worth throwing up some temporary seats or are they too expensive ?

Seems to be room next to the main stand and behind one terrace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 Bullpup

Seats would take up too much space.

Standing would allow more in, but everything has to be certified for H%S.

    Sat

    • Donegal v Cork, MacCumhaill Park, 3pm
    • Monaghan v Roscommon, St Tiernach's Park, 4.30pm, GAA+
    • Kildare v Kerry, Cedral St Conleth's Park, 5.30pm
    • Derry v Meath, Celtic Park, 7pm, GAA+

    Sunday

    • Louth v Armagh, Páirc Grattan, Inniskeen, 1pm, RTE
    • Galway v Westmeath, Pearse Stadium, 2pm, GAA+
    • Tyrone v Mayo, O'Neill's Healy Park, 3.30pm, RTE
    • Cavan v Dublin, Kingspan Breffni, 2pm

Would have thought Donegal v Cork would be a better game than Galway v WMeath for GAA+

Brave to not show Dublin or Kerry games but right call as should be one sided enough

I give up, Donegal v Cork not televised in any format. How do we expect to grow the game if they are not shown on TV? Majority of Cork football support is in the West of the county. 6+ hour drive and the same home. We are stuck with a 1950s experience for the biggest match of the season, listening to it on the wireless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,428 ✭✭✭Charles Babbage

It is actually a bit of an insult to Cork people, many of whom cannot easily travel to Ballybofey, to not have the game on GAA+.

We are told that only x games will be covered, but why decide this in advance? Is the Internet full?

I actually do have a clue and am close to someone who was involved in these decisions a while back. I hadnt realised the issues with the LOI games either, thats a new one for the GAA certainly. 😊 Ok im being a bit unfair but it looks bad imo. My point regarding Burns was that the draw isnt 'early'. Could have been done Sunday evening. The first round draw was done weeks before these matches and the dates and times weren finalised until two weeks after the draw. He's spoofing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Paidin Mhaire

He can't. It's ridiculous that all events seen on tv can't be revisited.

And it's a pretty serious breach I think. I actually think a 3 months ban is about right. A manager or member of a management team entering the pitch to remonstrate or confront/ engage adversarially with anyone is seriously ratcheting up the level of confrontation in what's likely an already fractious atmosphere. When that happens there's the real risk of some of the crowd feeling emboldened to also join in. It's an irresponsible and idiotic act but Jimmy knows that.

anyone any idea when tickets are on sale ?

Ya agreed Cavan "will" be way too strong for Dublin

Posted this in the Dublin thread, but I thought I'd post it here too, what with the discussion on it already here.

Ger has gotten his lawyer involved. Whatever Burns thought that he'd accomplish with his comments, he has made the situation significantly worse.

“My client considers the description of “irrational” in respect of comparisons with his case and another incident in another game as insulting to those holding that widely held view. Moreover, he is further concerned that the Uachtarán stated that “its more embarrassing for the CCCC to lose a case” brought by it at hearing, appeal, or DRA.

It's fairly damning, to be honest. It's all in legalese, but even so, it's an incredibly bad look for the GAA.

Burns would have been much better off keeping his mouth shut on this topic.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,271 ✭✭✭MFPM

I expected most of these, I assumed the Dublin game would be chosen simply based on viewing population not based on it being an overly attractive game to host. Kerry will wn at a canter so no point there and Donegal have had plenty of TV and will have more and will win. Thought they'd skip the Roscommon game...seems bizarre to have an online option and not show all games not on tv but I'm not au fait with the logistics of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,120 ✭✭✭✭wp_rathead

Monaghan v Roscommon is probably the standout clash imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭Steady1

I didn't pay much attention to the Ger Brennan incident, but is Burns essentially saying:

    1. If the Ref had of carded McGuinness and mentioned it in his report, he would have got a 12 weeks ban? And
    2. If there is an incident on the pitch in the next round of games, and a manager gets involved on the pitch, and let's say, punches someone in the face, and the Ref doesn't address it, then "there is nothing to see here" ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,271 ✭✭✭MFPM

I know where you're coming from - it's probably 50/50 which makes it interesting. I think Mayo/Tyrone and Derry/Meath are the standouts...

The thing is that what Burns is saying isn't very clear either.

Apparently, if the referee hands out a sanction, then CCCC will be handing out a further punishment. If the referee hands out no sanction other than a talking to, referenced in their report, then that's the end of it, with the CCCC unable to intervene.

There's a way in which he could have clarified this, but instead he's made a complete hames of this situation. Saying it's irrational to compare too very similar situations is like pouring jet fuel on a fire.
