Just heard it mentioned, Claire Byrne is going to be talking about whether there are too many deer in Ireland and how to control them (incl. bringing back wolves!).

Not sure exactly what time the discussion will be on, but the show has just started

    Thanks,

    G.

Mr McLaughlin responded that wolves do not attack people and said collisions involving deer pose a bigger threat to people’s safety.

“Michael's talking about human safety on the roads and everything else,” he said.

“Let's look at what's actually happening here; people are being injured in cars - they're not being injured by wolves.”

I wonder could he explain the following in Europe in the last 3 years perhaps?

    March 30, 2026

    Adult, female

    Defensive

    Wild (1)

GermanyHamburg-Altona — A woman was bit in the face by a young wolf in a shopping center. She was attacked while she tried to guide it out of the building, apparently mistaking it for a dog.[1] The animal was later captured and brought to a wildlife enclosure.[2][3]

    July 9, 2025

    Child, 6, male

    Unprovoked

    Wild (1), GW2337m, “Bram” [4][5]

Netherlands, at the monument Pyramid of Austerlitz near Austerlitz at the Utrecht Hill Ridge — A 6 year old boy was playing at the woods, whilst his parents were visiting the monument. The wolf attacked the child and tried to drag it into the woods. Nearby visitors saved the child by hitting the wolf with sticks, until it let go of the child. The boy suffered bite wounds and abrasions on his back and under his armpits. He was brought to Utrecht Hospitals were his skin and flesh wounds were treated.[6][7][8]

April 13, 2025 Adult female Unprovoked Wild (1) Netherlands, Hoge Veluwe — The wolf bit a female runner twice in her upper leg before being scared off by bystanders. Her injuries were treated in hospital. On May 16, a judge decided that the government was allowed to kill the wolf.[9][10]
February 13, 2025 3 Adults Unknown Wild Iran, West Azerbaijan Province, Salmas County, Deshvan — Three people were hospitalized for injuries after a wolf attack in the village.[11][12][13]
September 10, 2024 Child, 4 Predatory Wild (1) Italy, Parco delle Sabine (a city garden in Porta di Roma - Rome) — The wolf threw the child to the ground and tried to drag it away. Several young people nearby managed to snatch the prey from the wolf and scare it away. The child was treated in hospital. The wolf was later caught and released into an enclosure at the Parco Nazionale Abruzzo Lazio and Molise.[14][15][16]
    September 7,
    2024

Adult, 49, male Predatory Wild (1) Italy, Province of Chieti, Casalbordino — The man, who was on the beach with his wife and children, was attacked by a wolf and bitten in the knee. He was able to slowly retreat from the attacker, protecting his family. His wound was treated in hospital.[17][18][19]

Of course he could also ask the EU president Ursula Van Der yen about her experiances of wolves not attacking livestock and the end of their family pony "Dolly" on their farm Saxony.

A case of the cure being a lot worse than the disease is being suggested here.

Returning an apex predator to a country that has changed dramatically since it became extinct nearly 500 years ago,is NOT good conservation or balancing nature in any shape or form.
