A few days ago someone said in the temu chat thread that service + prices from their eu warehouses are shambolic.

Maybe that will improve when this charge comes in…

Would that not be cutting off your nose to spite your face? Shipping from Amazon Germany/France etc usually costs about 8/9 eu?

I wonder if the charge will apply to things ordered on Amazon UK but shipped from Ireland?

It was larger items in fairness, lawnmower, strimmer, motorcycle helmet etc etc...with delivery incl was still a better deal than available otherwise

Not always through amazon either, some of the larger retailers sites in the likes of Germany, France, Spain, Italy etc can have good deals and if they don't ship direct can use a forwarding service and still save a good bit

Not worth it for smaller purchases but can be worthwhile for larger stuff if you have the patience to hunt/wait for a bargain

Yep, that's what I thought, a lot of the stuff on the not frequent occasion seems to be shipping from eu warehouse now...the wait times have come down really significantly for when they first came on the scene I remember ordering stuff that took 6/8 weeks to arrive....now its 3/4 days so that stuff is unlikely to be coming from china

Gemini says Check the "Dispatched from" label: If an item on Amazon UK says "Dispatched from Amazon", it is likely coming from a UK or EU hub (if it's a UK hub, the €3 applies). If it says "Dispatched from Amazon EU" or comes from Amazon's newer fulfillment center in Baldonnell, Co. Dublin, no customs duty applies at all because it’s already inside the Irish/EU single market.

I've ordered stuff a couple of times a year over the past 3 years...so not a big customer, we are talking maybe 9/10 orders....out of those 10 only one came incomplete...that's not too bad in my book

And it was a little odd (not 100% intuitive) how you report/dispute the delivery but once I found the menu and ticked what didn't arrive ...I got immediate refund, as credit, I had the option of cash which I didn't go for and just reordered what didn't come and they arrived in next package...I chalked it up to whoever was doing the packing not paying attention or being in it for the short term (and no doubt the algorithm will catch up to them if too many reports of botched packages flag)

That's my experience and I was fine with it....I reckon if its higher value and you are getting the runaround it could be stressful all right but I've no experience of it...mostly nik naks I order, utensils, dog lead (surprisingly good), strimmer line etc etc

What's a bit strange is if all the items are the same, it's one charge of 3 euro, but different items, it's a charge per item.

    So ..

50 bottles of mint shower gel, 3 euro charge. Yes I can handle it!

1 bar of soap, mouthwash, some toilet roll and a potato masher, a pencil and rubber, 18 euro charge!!

For May and June I've ordered loads more of my S&S items and I'll cancel all the subscriptions and my UK prime at the end of June

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,304 ✭✭✭✭zell12

Eh caller, you forgot the vat on the duty

as the package contains three distinct items, each will have a €3 Customs Duty charge, so there will be €9 Customs Duty, plus Value-Added Tax (VAT) due.

Plus a handling charge? An Post etc won't be doing it for free?

Wake me up when it's all over.

I would assume amazon will just add it on at checkout. Other venders like shein and wish, not sure about

Isn't that to get around the fact that a lot of items are sold in multipacks.

I can buy a single screwdriver bit if I want but I normally by a pack of 20 or so. If a manufacturer puts two 20 packs in one box so they can sell a 40 pack is that 1 item 20 items or 40 items?

I believe that will be 1 charge as it's the same 1 20-pack item, 2 times. I.e. 1 product code and a 3 euro charge. (If they arrive in the same package)

But if you buy 1 20-pack of red handled screwdrivers and 1 20-pack of blue screwdrivers, that is 2 different product codes, so you get screwed one more time, for free, and pay 6 euro,

    Thats my understanding at least.

OKay…. I bit of a long winded story on how Amazon UK is working these days, but there is a bargain at the end of the tale, sort of, I hope as I ordered it!!

I've been tracking this item for a bit and was waiting for it to drop top its lowest price, which it did today.

    image.png

When I checked my basket it said "This item is no longer available from the seller you selected." which is amazon UK!! and was always available to deliver before this last drop.

When I checked a non-logged-in account, with a UK VPN, there is was, for 155GBP from Amazon UK?

When have they started blocking items to Ireland, when they doing a discount?

    image.png

Anyway ……Check the Amazon.ie Site and it is available for 151.03Euro with an estimated duty charge of 3.32euro.

    image.png

I though… I'm getting an even better deal here, but during the basket and check out the duty went to 38 Euro and a total of 189, and annoyingly its only 1.03 above the threshold for duty!!

Anyway it not far of the 155GBP price in the end, so went ahead with it.

What's the chances of any refund of duty on this. Link below if interested

Also by the looks of it there are 3 more left as it went from 20% claimed to 40% just after I ordered.

Yeah I've noticed Amazon are blocking offers for Ireland for the past while. I've a load of stuff that I have bookmarked on camelx3 and more often than not when I try buy the thing its magically "no longer available".

It's happening more and more frequently. I can't see myself staying with prime on co.uk once the new charges come in in July and up until now the Irish site hasn't been work it.

Just so everyone is aware the 3 euro charge is a temporary one size fits all measure by the EU in order for them to get their systems up and running…..come 2028, it will be full customs with percentage charges.

So a 100 euro pair of shoes in july is 3 euro import charge + 2 euro handling fee (come october).

    2028 its a 17% import charge + handling free = 119 euro.

Things are only going to get worse, I'm afraid.

Is it orders made before July 1st or orders delivered/processed before July 1st

I have used Amazon.ie intermittently… but have student prime with Amazon.co.uk, so couldn’t justify having two prime subscriptions

I recently cancelled my UK account with Amazon. They tried to only refund my remaining 2 months, I pushed back gently referencing the fact that I was told I would get a full refund and they then refunded the full year. Just an FYI to anyone taking the jump!

.ie amazon is like an after thought. I always use UK way more efficient

Well impressed with the Tapo C410 camera's just ordered another 2.

OK so they are nothing special but you still get a lot of features and a decent picture for little money. Will update when I have seen how they work at night.

Edit> Night vision in B&W is good. You can also have a light come on on the camera so it works in colour at night. But guess that reduces the battery life.

Some bad, if you need to change the network SSID you are connecting to then you have to do a camera reset.

Without paying for the cloud service a micro SD card is essential if you want to record whats happened.

Good to hear that, do you get a notification and footage to your phone with that model?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,224 ✭✭✭✭The Continental Op

I'm at home so no idea how it works when I'm out? So far I get notifications to my phone every time someone crosses our yard. I have SD cards in each one and then you can go and check the particular camera and download the clip. Its easy to find as there is a timeline of when the camera triggered.

Afaik you only get "rich notifications" when subscribed otherwise it's just a text notification. That's how all my tapo cameras (including the one discussed) work anyway.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

If you are within range of your WiFi then these might also make fairly good wildlife cameras. Certainly cheaper than some of the Trail Cameras which I've never had much success with.
