it seems this blood thirsty war is being carried out using the Iran /US standoff as cover for another Gaza like genocide.

The silence of the whole rest of the world is both disgraceful and pathetic.

Meanwhile a rapidly expanding epidemic in Central Africa lacks the basics including clean water to fight the disease.

It seems there is always money for weapons but never enough money to fight life threatening diseases in developing countries…

Israel targets another underground command centre, this one was under an ancient historical monument.

Israeli forces struck an ancient site in southern Lebanon this week, the country’s state media reported, as the IDF continued to intensify attacks despite the extension of a ceasefire.

The 900-year-old Beaufort Castle was hit by Israeli strikes on Tuesday, as its bombardment of southern Lebanon killed 31 people and wounded another 40 in the deadliest day since a ceasefire was supposed to take hold, state news agency NNA reported.

The fortress in southern Lebanon has been described by UNESCO as one of the best-preserved examples of medieval castles in the region.

    https://ilkha.com/english/world/smotrich-calls-for-border-changes-annexation-plan-covering-palestine-syria-and-lebanon-resurfaces-531398

Israeli regime Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has sparked controversy with statements calling for a new border framework that would include Gaza, the West Bank, Syria and Lebanon under a broader annexation vision.

The far-right minister made remarks that further escalated regional tensions, reiterating expansionist positions during an interview with FM 103 radio, where he commented on Israel’s ongoing military operations and political objectives.

Smotrich argued that “Israel’s borders” should be reshaped across a wide geographical area including Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank, insisting that the current regional conflict must end with a redrawing of territorial boundaries.

He stated that the war should conclude with changes to what he described as the state’s borders across Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank, framing the outcome as a territorial reconfiguration driven by the conflict.

The minister, who has previously clashed at times with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also claimed he holds significant influence over the direction of the war, saying, “I have a lot of influence over the war,” highlighting his role within the government.

Smotrich openly reiterated annexation demands, stating that if it were up to him, the territories in question would have already been formally incorporated under Israeli control.

He further emphasized that territorial control remains the primary objective, saying that what matters is not the scale of military operations but how much land is taken, comments widely viewed as reflecting a hardline expansionist ideology.

Israel issues a further evacuation order asking people to move North. More than half of the new area is north of the Litani river.

UN reports targeting of children and medical facilities by Israel just as they did in Palestine. Why do they do that? Because it is part of their ethnic cleansing strategy. The World's leaders and media have closed their eyes to the emerging genocide in Lebanon.

    https://thecradle.co/articles/Eleven-Lebanese-children-killed-injured-every-day-by-Israeli-military-UN

Eleven children have been killed or injured on average every 24 hours in Lebanon ‌over the past week, the UN's children's agency revealed on 29 May, as Israel expands its war on Lebanon despite a so-called “ceasefire” sponsored by the US that took effect in mid-April.

A total of 77 children have been killed or injured in the last seven days, UNICEF said, citing figures tallied by Lebanon's Ministry of Public Health.

The UN agency added that, since the ceasefire was announced by Washington on 16 April, fifty-five children have been killed and 212 injured. "Under international humanitarian law, children and civilian infrastructure must be protected," said UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires.

Since the US-backed ceasefire was announced, Israel carried out a total of 27 attacks on healthcare facilities in Lebanon, resulting in 25 deaths and 42 injuries, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

A total of 16 hospitals and 13 primary healthcare centers have been damaged by Israeli attacks.

Insane levels of violence against innocent people. And the world does nothing.

The world needs a big change. A revolution. But to what? I don't know.

    But something needs to change.

Well Israel intends making change all right. Here is a quote indicating their past, current, and future intentions. Curious that he didn't mention Iran, Somaliland, US, Europe, South America, Africa, etc.

We are taking the initiative, we are operating on all fronts – in Syria, in Gaza, in Lebanon,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.

The West has completely lost its moral authority and is completely ineffective.

Netanyahu is out of control and some posters think he is above the law.

A bit like the Lebanonese government. They actually believe the US that disarming Hezbollah will make the Israeli's just pack up and head back home. Similar to the board of peace plans to disarm Hamas in Gaza, take away the resistance, build them a nice new city and they all live happily ever after in utopia.

Israel are stuck in a quagmire here and can't hide the losses they are taking forever even with the media blackout, unfortunately they will be forced to revert back to what they always do shortly, killing and bombing civillians on mass.

Who exactly is this “west” you keep moaning about and why exactly they should get involved in yet another Middle Eastern cluster f

And why are you not calling for the “east” to do anything in you know Middle East

We already have troops there but they can’t do anything as there is no UN mandate to do anything and our constitution is quite clear about neutrality which the left bleats about all the time

Dilemma for Netanyahu as President Trump forces Israel to turn back its troops from Beirut. Maybe Israel will invade Syria during this lull?

    https://english.alarabiya.net/News/middle-east/2026/06/02/trump-blasts-netanyahu-over-lebanon-escalation-blocks-beirut-strike-report

    https://thefederal.com/category/international/israeli-troops-on-way-to-beirut-turned-back-hezbollah-agreed-to-stop-shooting-trump-245159

Following the call with Netanyahu, Trump said, “there will be no Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops going to Beirut, and any Troops that are on their way, have already been turned back.”

The German development minister, Reem Alabali Radovan, had planned to visit Beirut on Monday to meet with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and other officials, but she called off the visit while travelling to the city, citing the possibility of Israeli strikes in the suburbs.

This has been explained to you, over and over. I don't know why you persist with this line of questioning, it is really not the hard hitting point you think it is.

I am still waiting for you to show me a post where I cheered for Iran, or where I was OK with Iran attacking Ireland. You made those accusations, and scuttled off when asked to back them up.

If you can't figure out why the West has any responsibility for the "Middle Eastern cluster f" (your words), then you should do some reading and educate yourself before prolifically posting such misinformed nonsense.

So you are unable to explain who this evil “west” is and why the far left are busy self flagelating themselves over “eastern” problems

But you know the answer to this. You must. If you dont know who the West is, and the chaos they have constantly sown in various parts of the world, then you have no business opining on a current affairs forum. Its a stupid, disingenuous line of questioning.

You also ignored my comment about our previous exchanges calling out your bad faith posting, unsurprisingly. On the back of that, I will not engage further with you as it is pointless and goes nowhere. I hope others do the same so you dont clog up every thread with your edgy posts rehashing silly points that have already been answered to you over and over.

    Humor me

Who is this evil west? And why you think you are responsible for its actions and where are eastern countries in all of this

And finally what do you suggest we in Ireland do about this evil “western” empire?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,387 ✭✭✭wildgreen

The scale of it could increase substantially with a goal of taking ownership of everything south of Beirut and Damascus.

The West? The US primarily, they have a footprint in the region.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,758 ✭✭✭bored65

Then blame the US and under Trump there plenty of blame to go around but this flavour of “whiteman guilt” and massive chips on the shoulder the far left carries as if we here in Ireland are responsible for any of the nonsense in the Middle East is getting annoying

Especially as eastern countries like China, India and Russia just shrug or actively make things worse there too

You have people in one post blaming the “west” for problems in the Middle East and then few posts later without a shred of irony asking where the west is and why they not getting involved

Katz and Ben Gvir oppose Lebanon ceasefire brokered by the US

    https://israel.com/politics/cracks-emerge-in-israeli-leadership-over-u-s-brokered-hezbollah-ceasefire/

    https://www.tovima.com/world/katz-israel-wont-leave-lebanon-despite-the-ceasefire/

On Monday, President Donald Trump stated that Israel would not proceed with attacks on Beirut, after Netanyahu had said he had ordered strikes on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, a Hezbollah stronghold.

That development drew criticism from Netanyahu’s political opponents and some of his own allies, who argued that the prime minister had yielded to external pressure and undermined Israeli sovereignty.

There are moments when you have to know how to say ‘no,’ even to the President of the United States. If we fail to do so, next time we will face a Hezbollah that is far stronger and far more dangerous,” Ben-Gvir said on Thursday.

The Lebanese government is having some kind of talks with Israel while the latter is conducting a conquest of Lebanon.

If that's true (at least the first two sentences) then please explain why:
    1) Israel was not attacking Lebanon on the 6th of October 2023?
    2) Why, when people like you only talk about groups like Hezbollah (and their Iranian backers), it is to defend them and deflect criticism from them?

Woah there horsey. What the Hezbollah terrorists have done to Israel since Oct 7th absolutely violates international humanitarian law. Absolutely no question. These are highly inaccurate missiles which deliberately target civilians. They have killed many Israeli civilians and caused a lot of property damage. I don't know the exact number killed but it is certainly more than 100 innocent civilians and counting. Many thousands of Israelis have also been displaced from their homes as a result of the constant barrage. Direct attacks on civilians and civilian property and indiscriminate attacks that kill and injure civilians must be investigated as war crimes.

However I asked you a few days ago about the deaths of over 20,000 children (and counting) in Gaza and you ran away as per usual. This was the post you did not respond to because the going got tough: (Post #60009)

"Would you accept that Israel killed and maimed a lot more people than it needed to in order to achieve it's war aims and annexation? The 20,000 innocent children for example. Don't really expect an honest response."

They are still dying, mainly due to malnutrition because Israel wont let in sufficient food/medicine/water.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

My questions were to brickster69, but to answer yours directly: No. Hamas (who have a long history of perfidious conduct including members posing as "journalists" and "doctors") have had 20 years to turn Gaza into a giant military base and have done so. The fact that they're still firmly in control of the Strip is informative.

But since this thread is about Lebanon, I thought it best to deal in facts, one of which was that Hezbollah rejected the ceasefire proposal a few days ago. From Axios:

Israel, Lebanon agree to full ceasefire, but Hezbollah rejects it
