All of those teams would be delighted to meet us. We are a soft touch.

There was a time when we'd beat some of those based almost on reputation alone. No guarantees against any of them now.

Other than facing Donegal I'm hopeful that we can see out the next few games in reasonable shape. We have started the development of the new team. The problem we have is not having enough big physical players in the 25-30 age group to give us a strong spine and see out games. This will have to be developed in the next few years. O'Loughlin, Seamus Howard, Josh Moyles and Holmes from westport may be options around the central positions.

I think we can see why Paddy Tally was ran from so many teams of defence is shocking bad, straight down the middle an high ball in it's curtains.

Doc,Oshea,Towy, did nothing where was boland?he should have being on the bench at least.

IIt's only prolonging the pain if we get some one a bit soft tomorrow.

The Boland thing to me is quite damning of what he brings to the team in championship action. Is it three different management teams that have all come to the opinion that he just doesn't offer anything of real substance?

Not fully correct. Kobe had a poor enough second half and was turned-over a few times. Donohoe was the one player that provided real leadership when it was needed. Not everything he did came off, but he kept going, kept demanding the ball and running hard. Justifiable MOTM.

I'm not a Mayo man but admired the great team of recent years. I can't get over the negativity on here about yesterday. If thats typical, its no wonder the team fails major tests. Yesterday, there was an outstanding young keeper, some great fielding and excellent scores , especially in the first half, but nobody wants to comment on that. Is the sense of entitlement too great?

If you had being through what most of us on here have being through the last 10/1 5 yrs with mayo gaa, that the standard is set very high an what we have saw under macstay an so far from moran we are so far off it its ridiculous teams used to fear us if they got ys in a draw that cant be said about tomorrow's draw.

Mayo’s defence is open but they did well besides. Thought the commentary was very biased on RTÉ yesterday? A Monaghan co commentator questioning everything including a clearly wide point .

Theres a horrible breed of negative Mayo " supporter" that has come about the last few years.

Only a minority but loud and online (a few on here)

Still shiteing on about 2021,dont even go to games.

Nothing wrong with valid criticism but these lads have issues beyond football.

There really has been a noticeable change in mood the last few years. Even at our best we had terrible performances in Connacht/qualifiers/quarter finals against much inferior opposition.

Yesterday was a good win against a more than decent Monaghan team.

I've noticed this across a number of online "fan groups" for various sports...hard to know if it's something that's always been there and/or the internet has just amplified it.

Yesterday was a decent result but patchy performance.…I definitely wasn't relaxing with an 11 point lead given both teams recent history

Nice shot of Kobe showing similar outside of the boot technique and balance to his old man when shooting a 2-pointer yesterday.

    Tyrone away 😬

    Another longish trip

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭Westernview

Will take that. We are better away anyway.

    Not ideal

Not the worst draw in the world, I'd say Tyrone will be slight favourites but we definitely have a chance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 472 ✭✭SeanJ09

Actually glad Mayo got that. Tyrone are a team that should be a similar level to us and game will tell us more where this team is really at, albeit Tyrone will be favourites.

Other than the long trip , delighted Mayo are kept away from McHale Park where we have a dreadful record lately. A free shot at a quarter final place and last 8.

Winning your round 1 match really puts you in the right stream in this structure, certainly much more consequential than anything you do in your provincials. Even if Mayo lose to Tyrone we should have an easier round 3 game to get to the same place as if we had beaten them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,434 ✭✭✭MacDanger

Getting an easier game is debatable - the 2B winners are likely to be Kerry, Roscommon, Derry and Dublin. Dublin would be an easier draw than Tyrone, maybe Derry also but not the other two. The big difference is the extra game though - if we beat Tyrone, we have a week off whereas if we lose, we're playing 3 weeks on the trot

Sure can we not get kerry in round 3 if lose to tryone

Yeah I was looking acrosss the 2B teams, had forgotten they would be whittled down to 4 for the round 3 draw. Even so we should be in a clearly better place than if we had lost round 1

Didn't Mayo hammer Tyrone 12 months ago in a similar situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,637 ✭✭✭spakman

Yes, but hard to see Tyrone being that complacent again after that.

Still think we have a decent chance and will be a good test of the team and mgmt.

A q-final would be good progress for this year.

Mayo have been shown to be unpredictable from one week to the next, never mind from year to year. The team seems to have the abilities there to produce a very performance. But yet saying that, I'm sure the Tyrone management will be looking at ways to curb the influence of Kobe Mc and Ryan O', and apart from those two, do we really have anyone else who can influence a game effectively.

What's the thought process of bringing in Diarmuid O'Connor in latter part of matches. I cannot see any contribution there at all. Obviously management see everything that is going on, but surely it would be better bringing in younger lads that have more energy - the likes of Cian McHale, Tommy Conroy. Or Fergal Boland seems more appropriate to bring on for 15 mins at the end. Composed and a good eye for a score. Poor Diarmuid moves like he is about 40 years old when he is coming on to the pitch.

DOC looks well off the pace and I hate to see him like this and looks like it could be over. I think some of the changes were a bit head scratching - taking off Loftus and Coen together as I thought there was enough time given to Duffy and O'Loughlin and needed a bit of experience at that point in the game. Durcan for Duffy and Cian Mchale or Conroy for O'Loughlin would have been my take on it and brought additional pace to the attack. I just think it brought a bit of unstability to the team with the changes made. Anyway, Durcan has to start the next day.

What’s the best option for staying up in Omagh? Maybe somewhere en route like Bundoran might be a good option ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,354 ✭✭✭HBC08

Loftus was playing well but has a niggle, thats why he came off.

He'll play the full game in Omagh.

sad state of affairs when it’s “anywhere but Castlebar”, it must be worth 4 or 5 points to the opposition at this stage

Curious how we see this teams best football away from home. I can only guess the pressure to perform is felt more acutely at home ..
