It's the results on the pitch, the performance (regardless of results), the views of the players, the fans (regardless of what some think) and a plethora of other factors that are behind his sacking.

All would have been weighed up and (imo) the correct decision was made. There was no turnaround forthcoming because Slot didn't demonstrate he was able to.

I'm not naive but I did think they'd give him another crack considering he had won a PL title. Yes we had a really poor season but there was plenty of obstacles that didn't go in the managers favor so maybe he might of got a pass.

It's over now and it's another man's job now and we'll back him whoever that is.

I really don’t want it to be Iraola.

I supported Slot as much as the next man but the wheels had Well and truly come off and the team had lost all direction imo- he really couldn't continue?

Who would you like instead? It's slim pickings out there right now.

We should throw everything to entice Enrique

It's all about opinion. Klopp turned it around after a poor season so there's a possibility that Slot might of been able.

Klopp was a different manager tbf tho.

Enrique would be the dream but hard to see him walking away him PSG unless he wants a real challenge at Liverpool

    Emery

It is. I don’t know really. Slot’s mistakes this year have been down to inexperience imo. Iraola is even less experienced.

I am just not really ready for another experiment.

There might be some movement after the World Cup.

Sky said about a month / 6 weeks ago that no team had more 0-0s than Bournemouth and that no team had conceded more set piece goals. How many Bournemouth games did you watch this season to warrant this excitement?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,893 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

No, **** emery. The part he played in trying to stiff Liverpool over the Elliot transfer means he can FRO in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭riddles

You could at least add they sold four of their primary defenders from last season and still finished 3 points behind Slots Liverpool. His teams are well coached, engaged with high energy and a trust in young talent. Something integral within Liverpool's culture.

Transferring that to a squad with some bad attitude twats is going to be the question. As is the energy demands of an extra 15 games a season at Liverpool but hey why let insight inform your opinion?

I have never heard of fraud been used like that asked some and also checked on the Internet. Where have you heard it like that

I don't think we can wait that long. Of those that might be of interest, Tuchel is combustible and Nagalsmann not very convincing.

I've been a proponent of Iraola for a while on the basis that the football he plays is as close to what Liverpool fans had been used to with Klopp. I didn't see the point of hiring Alonso as he's too similar in style to Slot.

Bournemouth over the past three seasons have had the 15th, 18th and 17th-highest wages bills in the division but have finished 12th, 9th and 6th.

There are of course massive question marks over his ability to get a team to perform 2 or 3 times per week, to handle the scrutiny of managing a big club. But I think the expectation next season is we are in the top 4 and play with a clear identity.

Really don't want to be waiting until after the WC to have our manager locked down. Not sure the post WC manager merry go round will turn up any interesting options either.

Sorry to see it end like this for Slot. Hopefully he'll be remembered rightly for delivering #20 and not for presiding over the mess this season. That mess however is another person's problem (soon) and I don't know who exactly can come in and be confident they could turn it around. Iraola got Bournemouth within an sniff of a CL spot but I couldn't tell you how well suited he is to the challenge not working for us in Europe too. Pity we missed out on Alonso, though even he's not proven pedigree yet. Enrique feels like the dream target. Potentially achieved all he can as PSG and might be up for a new challenge. Gonna be an interesting Summer ahead, complicated more by the WC so one can assume major signings won't happen untill the far side of it.

Is that really a reply to my post? What opinion exactly are you disagreeing with? I gave two stats and asked a question.

As a matter of interest, given Rio got more minutes in the PL than any other player his age, what other young players should have got more PL minutes this season?

Conceding a heap of set piece goals doesnt scream ‘well coached’ to me. But maybe bedding in new defenders is an excuse for the season

Didnt do it at Arsenal or PSG lacks pragmatisim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭John arse

Can't say I watched them intently now but did pay more attention lately when Iraola was mentioned.Yeah 5 0-0 draws but also unbeaten in their last 18 league games and only losing once in 2026 to Arsenal at the start of the year so Iraola can't be a total idiot ,as for the set-piece thing I'm surprised that isn't us.You're obviously not a fan of his which is fair enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,655 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Did someone say Iraola was a total idiot? Wow, wouldnt pay attention to that type of talk tbh

Very impressed by what he did at Bournemouth but struggling to be convinced about how he’d do at Liverpool.

I think it would be 50/50, he might be great, or he might be completely out of his depth. It’s a totally different job when you are in a team where their fans expect to win most games. Not being beaten is not enough.

I would find it very strange that people would pick someone who was won nothing ahead of someone who not only won the Dutch league but also won the premier league. But I would be 100% behind Iraola if he was given the job. 100%.

But one thing i do know for sure. The people who say Bournemouth always play great football, watch feck all of Bournemouth.

With all that has gone on tonight with the CL final, I never copped this.

Not one Liverpool player has said a word, publicly, about Slot leaving. Not one message of support, thank you, apology etc. Not even an obvious PR team message. Salah was pillared for his outspoken message, but it is very obvious with all the players that echoed his sentiment, and added to the constant rumours this season of senior players wanting to leave like MacAllister, Alisson, Jones and ultimately Salah, Robbo & Konate. Yesterday, suddenly, both Gomez and Alisson are staying and today Slot is gone. Coincidence?

Anyways, overall I won't lay the boot into Slot personally. Unfortunately this season didn't work for a multitude of reasons. He was dealt a terrible hand and he handled it how he did. It was difficult for anyone to deal with it, but unfortunately top level football is cut throat and he didn't perform well enough. He came across arrogant at times, and the connection with fans and players was damaged beyond repair at a time when the club, the players and the fans needed it the most.

He won us a league and I really hope that everyone remembers him for that reason the most. He deserves respect for that, and also nobody can take that away from him. Was it Klopp's team? Yes. Is it Klopp's medal? No, it's Slot. You can't take that away from him. I hope his memory of Liverpool is that defining fact. Hopefully he can have a decent career elsewhere, and a he'll always have that Premier League champion medal.

They were playing much better football than Liverpool anyway - that's for sure!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭funkey_monkey

Slot to AC Milan doing the rounds.

I'd love to be a sports journalist - just write random shite and sometimes it'll be right.if it is true, I hope it works out for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭riddles

No biggy, the competencies he didnt have to take the thing forward became more and more obvious and to suggest another Dutch coach would be a silver bullet was utter nonsense. That said to bandy fraud in his direction was equally ridiculous. Although his comments lately have pushed him into circus performer territory.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,655 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Yep. Except when they played teams where Bournemouth had the most possession and the opponents had defensive lines for Bournemouth to break down. Then they werent always as good. But against the big teams when they could play on the break, they were usually a great watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,806 ✭✭✭John arse

Fair comment - who would you like to see come in anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭riddles

Half the squad value and wage bill of Liverpool, Salah representing a third of their wage bill all for a three point differential. And as mentioned selling their primary back four.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,655 ✭✭✭The Rooster

If you want to ignore what i say/ask, that’s absolutely fine, but confused why you would reply to me and post stuff that has nothing to do with my comments/questions!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,291 ✭✭✭Appletart Upsetter

To be fair, PSG struggled tonight against a team doing just that.

Iraola is a gamble if he gets the job, no question. Keeping Slot was a gamble too. The silence from players today, the reaction from current players to the Salah post suggests things were not good in the dressing room. I felt at the time Slots position was under massive threat after the Salah post.

I think in the social media age, when the general consensus amongst a group of people is the same eg wanting the manger gone, there is a clamour to be 'the most right' or 'the most enraged' and so people over-exaggerate their outrage or displeasure and so things like fraud are said so that they get the most attention.

1 person calling the manager fraud or 10 people saying thanks and good luck. The fraud line gets the most attention.
