I don't recall SlickRic calling him a fraud but I know I did.

    And yes, I do.

Wow. Well thanks for absolutely proving my point about the smugness and condescenscion…"try to follow along"

God, for someone who has been talking absolute beans for months now whilst talking down to most people who disagreed with you it is very impressive to see you continue to be so arrogant and obnoxious even in the face of being proven 100% wrong! Most people change their tone when they have been proven entirely wrong, but not you. 👏👏👏

Yep, he defo deserves some gratitude for the title win imo. His somewhat standoffish attitude enabled the team to play with minimal pressure and get it over the line, even if it was Klopps team. Sometimes things just click momentarily, like it did for Rodgers too. I still look back on 13/14 with a lot of fondness, and will do the same on Slots first season.

Once he started implementing tactics it was going downhill, perhaps he would have done better with time, but the unfortunate timing of Jota death scuppered the whole plan.

Now that he’s gone I think fans should just forget about the last year, appreciate #20 and move on.

When you look at the list of PL winning managers , you have the likes of Jose, Ferguson, Pep, Conte, Klopp, Arteta, Wenger, Dalglish, Ancelotti , Mancini . All very passionate, not afraid to show it in public, all will fight for their club and players.

Arne stands out on that list. loves a subtle jab about his own players, while rest will defend the indefensible about their players , no matter what they do.

He did,why in your opinion is a manager who won us a league title a fraud?

You say it was Klopp's team- 3rd and 5th the previous two seasons.

Why are people offended by 'fraud'? It feels like we're just playing semantics for the sake of it, and getting offended. He wasn't doing his job well, simple as that.

He proved himself capable of tweaking enough of the machine to help us get a title, while riding on the back of 6 months of Salah genius. Superb. And I'll always be thankful.

But he did very little to prove that he could build a team to go again. I stand by that. I don't like the lack of intensity. I don't like the lack of identity. I don't like his excuses. I don't like the fact he doesn't use his squad, and uses the same cohort of players until they drop. All red flags that have been there for over a year.

Iraola may be worse - particularly in the short term. But I'm willing to take that chance, because Slot had to go.

I just think fraud is unnecessarily disrespectful for a man who won a premier league title.

I was 100% in the Slot out camp but labelling him a fraud is pure hyperbole.

I agree with the rest of what you say but that term is derogatory and unnecessary.

The definition of a fraud is someone who is pretending to be something they’re not, which in no way describes Slot.

He’s a top level coach who has had success with the only 2 teams he’s managed. He had a difficult second year, but that’s not uncommon. Klopp had had struggles a year after his title win. Benitez and Rodgers had big dropoff after their title pushes too.

Like so much of what’s been spoken about him over the last few weeks, it’s overly harsh on the man. He might deserve to go, but he’s anything but a fraud.

Ruben Amorim was a fraud! We can all agree on that at least!

Thanks for a fantastic debut season Arne, I'd have loved it to have worked out better in the end but alas, here we are.

If Iraola comes in, wins the league at a canter next season but then performances fell off a cliff the following season.......would we take that now? I know I would.

I'm not sure about him tho. It gives me the feeling of a cup manager signing and I'm not sure why. Few fa cups, league cups but dunno about leagues or champions league. I'd love to be wrong tho

Is Iraola a done deal then - anyone know????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,307 ✭✭✭✭banie01

Clearly results between then and now just weren't up to the required standard and the club took a considered view of what would be needed to regain competitive edge.😉

We must have played a rake of games between the 21/5 and today for the club's hierarchy to finally change their mind 🤔👀

On a serious note and to echo a lot of sentiment already expressed.
Thanks Arne for No20, good luck in your future endeavours and let's remember the 1st 11 months for the wonderful title.

Be shocked if it’s anyone else at this point but I guess they won’t announce for a while.

My big concern about Iraola is he has zero European football experience. How will he cope playing 3 times a week? Liverpool is a massive jump up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Appletart Upsetter

The one thing he does seem really good at doing is utilizing all of his squad and the team continuing to play in a purposeful manner. Between injuries and players being transferred out he's had to adapt continuously at Bournemouth.

So perhaps he can use all of the Liverpool squad to cope with 2 games per week.

I wonder what this means for players who looked like they were on the way out? Elliot and Jones spring to mind.

Let's hope the club work with him to bring in an experienced setup around him,Would like to see Thiago join him

Iraola has a feel of Potter to Chelsea about it....hopefully someone can dig this post out in future years to prove me wrong

Iraola is a huge gamble. Like when United got in Moyes to replace Ferguson. No experience managing a top level club. Throw everything at Enrique.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,290 ✭✭✭Appletart Upsetter

    It's definitely a risk.

But all title winning managers have to start somewhere. The pressure to win the league next season will be minimal. The pressure will be to get the team playing within intensity and purpose. To show signs that the team can compete at the top level in future.

I’m not particularly offended by the word ‘fraud’, but I’d consider anyone using it to describe a manager like Slot, to be a bit of a moron.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,498 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    Fair enough.

Genuinely surprised the term 'fraud' is so offensive. I know its literal meaning, but its also often used as a synonym for someone who is doing their job really badly.

If taken literally, it's obviously harsh.

I stated on here a long while back Slots learning curve would vastly exceed the runway that would be afforded to him and thats been bourne out.

I have been thinking more and more that unfortunately it seemed that Slot didn't think he had anything to learn with rotation, inter personal skills and that it was all due to a series of bad luck. I suspected his leaving was worked out about 10 games ago but lets see what comes out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,555 ✭✭✭jesuisjuste

That’s sort of my point, people are saying that Slot is a fraud and it was Klopps team, I’m saying he actually did manage that team to the title, and clearly he has a fair bit of ability to do so. I dont think he’s a fraud.

It’s a legit shame it didn’t work out longer term, but I’m ok to move on and wish him success in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,337 ✭✭✭✭8-10

He's managed more than 2 clubs, he nearly won the league with Alkmaar but for COVID resulting in eredivisie being declared null and void when they were joint first in March

When you can't advance your argument you decide to play the man.

I'll take that as a compliment.

A fraud, imo, is someone who intentionally goes out of the way to deceive someone. I don’t believe Slot is that. He knows full well that it was Klopp team that helped him win the league, he sang Klopp’s name at the trophy presentation.

He has won trophies everywhere and aside from a few hiccups has carried himself impeccably during a very stressful and unprecedented season.

it’s fine to say you don’t like him, character assassinations are not. Imo.
