A little sad but relieved the inevitable decision was made and made quickly.

Would have liked nothing better. Then die Slot to be a success and be here for 10 years more, but alas not going to happen. Bad luck, and bad decisions mean he was a dead man walking, and it was clear when there was zero talk of a contract renewal on the table he wasn't staying.

    Next move is important.

Yes I am in the same boat as you, there was a good few of what I thought were great posters in here who went down a lot in my estimation these past few months. I had no problem with anyone wanting him.gone at any stage during the season or calling out his tactics etc,but to call him a fraud was just nonsense. He delivered us no. 20 and he will always be fondly remembered for that

Online fans are a totally different beast, best ignoring the likes of twitter

In here is closer to what "real" fans all think, we're all basically saying the same. Respect what he did, it's a shame but change was the best option

If he comes back to Anfield with his next club I don't doubt he'll get a very warm reception

Who is in the loop when it comes to the club? It is a credit to the club that we do not have leaks all over really.

I posted before that I wasn't too bothered if Slot kept his job or not, I only want to club to do well and if it is with him then great. I think his time was up when he lost the majority of fans, it was going to be hard to get them back onside. I hope whoever the new manager is will have some better luck than we had with a proper preseason with the players and a little more luck with injuries.

It was reported back in March that our games against PSG and City would be pivotal in any decision regarding Slot's future.

Maybe not a coincidence that Iraola announced he'd be leaving Bournemouth the following week

Can't agree with that, while majority posters were ok in here and debated their opinions in a respectful way, some let themselves down and made it personal

Glad this didn’t have any impact in the end.

Sorry, Are you telling me Aspas could have got us 20 + goals a season if he stayed???

Anyhow, still trying to digest the news.

Id say we are in for a roller coaster few weeks. Id say whatever was going on in the squad will be aired soon.

    Thanks Arne Slot. YNWA.

Got us no.20 for that you will be remembered fondly by myself

He could have. In the same way Slot could have turned it around next season. I guess we'll never know. But what we do know is that he did fantastic things back in Spain and really stepped up after leaving us.

Probably best pulling the trigger now rather than waiting to see how the start of the season goes. I said in a couple of weeks back that Slot would be under huge pressure at the start of the season, that he would have needed to have a perfect start and in terms of results but also performances. Yes he had a perfect start to the season just ended but the performances weren't up to scratch, yes it was said it was the effect of Jota but after the loss to Palace they collapsed, even the unbeaten run wasn't impressive the performances were still under par. Not whether that is because of Slots tactics or the effects of a disrupted pre-season or a combination of both.

Have to ask has there been a successful Dutch manager in the premier league?

Yes, Arne Slot won the premier league in 24/25! 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,503 ✭✭✭Ken Tucky

He could have in the same way I could have played for Liverpool 😆

Not a hope. He was a little boy playing a man's game in England.

Better suited to the more technical Spanish league. Done very well 👌

We will agree to disagree on your hypothetical assumption 👍

He was strangely adamant that Slot was staying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,538 ✭✭✭brevity

I put the phone down for an hour and this happens smh

Probably better for all involved, I would have been interested to see what happened next but a clean slate will buy some time.

I think it’s a big risk to hire a manager who hasn’t won anything. If it is to be Iraola

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,707 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Who ever they are going to get will.be a risk regardless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,455 ✭✭✭ebbsy

The right decision, but Slot will be remembered as a Liverpool legend in my book.

I wasn't at all adamant that Slot would be staying, stop making stuff up.

I did feel based on the circumstances that it was the most likely outcome and whilst that turned out to be wrong the reason I thought so wasn't that strange really.

Try to follow along, I'll break it down into the two elements I based my opinion on:-

    1. Alonso, one of the favourites to take over if Slot was fired, was allowed to go to Chelsea.
    2. Slot's former coach at Feyenord was granted a work permit to join Liverpool a couple of weeks ago.

I also said in many posts that if FSG were going to make a change they would do so in the week after the last match and that if that decision was made my personal view was that Iraola was favourite to get the job and that he would also be my preference as he's got PL experience, plays a good style of football, gets the very maximum out of the players available to him, improving this year despite the loss of Semenyo and others, and has the sort of pasionate character which I think everyone associated withe the club can get behind and support similar to how we did when Klopp came in.

Iraola isn't anywhere near as charasmatic as Klopp but that shouldn't be the bar a new manager is held to as Klopp was a generational exception as a manager.

Hope that clarified it for you.

Also, shame you didn't take the bet @giveitholly, it's always easier and safer to hang back, spend time looking backwards at previous posts and then pop up with the Gotcha / I told you so post. Well done.

Iraola is another non passionate calm headed, never shows emotion manager. His dressing room manner is not a , tear my own face off like a Pep, or an absolute frenzy of loudness and passion of a Klopp, in the dressing room it's a calm, softly spoken approach when 0-1 to PSG at home in a CL semi at Anfield .

Salah's post got him sacked. Too many players backed him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭Cyloncity

Totally agree with all of this. In the end he just didn't have the answers and a change was necessary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,878 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

His performances and his inability to show any upturn in results got him the sack.

Ah would you get up that garden. You seem to go out of your way to ridicule other people's posts. Have a bit of humility to admit your own take was well off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,315 ✭✭✭54and56

There ya go @Dr_Robert, that shows you exactly how adamant I was (not) about Slot staying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,707 ✭✭✭giveitholly

I know, given a choice between making a bet and popping up with gotcha/I told you posts, its the second option for me all day👍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,707 ✭✭✭giveitholly

If it is Iraola then I hope he can get kerkez playing the way he did when at Bournemouth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,315 ✭✭✭54and56

I literally just did admist my own assessment of the situation, which wasn't an "adamant" position, turned out to be wrong.

I'm fine with that. The decision has now been made. The King is dead, long live the new King as far as I'm concerned and I hope that new King is Iraola.

What I won't do is allow people to embellish or mis state what I actually said.

In fairness a lot of the match going fans had turned on Slot too just look at the last few games of the season. Slot should be thanked but it's clear this season his time was up.
