Saw Flea in KOKO last night and, in fairness, that’s why I never really get too worked up anymore when a tour doesn't hit here and I have to fly over. As this gig was sensational. Given the personal circumstances, I didn't think he would have played.

One of those gigs where you realise why waiting around hoping things land locally can be overrated sometimes. Warren Ellis appeared, then Thom Yorke casually wandered out as well and the whole room just lifted another level.

Great crowd too. Felt like everyone in there genuinely wanted to be there and knew they were witnessing something special in the moment rather than simply attending because it was the designated marquee event of the week.

And honestly, if there’s something I really want to see, I’ll just go. Flights are cheap, London is an hour away.

Worth every cent in fairness. These are the kinds of shows people end up talking about years later while everyone else is still debating whether the ticket price justified the runtime.

Using flash pretty much always attracts attention

Stage lighting is usually adequate, but can result in significant under or over-exposure. I can usually judge it quite well nowadays, and you also have an instant playback if you want meaning you can adjust if necessary. In the pre-digital age you had to wait a few days to get your photos back from the developer (although I used to develop my own on occasion) to discover if your photos were OK or not

For Elton John I had a steward arguing any camera with a zoom was "professional". It is generally accepted they do not allow cameras with a detachable lens, but compact cameras are OK, unless the artist decides on no photography at all. My compact camera did cost quite a bit more than many so-called "professional" cameras mind….

My little Google Pixel camera no flash is ok for me , mostly 😎

Can't get those clear close ups that you and others get though .

    Clutch - Telegraph Building

This show was upgraded to the Telegraph Building after the Limelight sold out really quickly. They didn't fill it, but there was a good crowd. I've seen them twice before in the Limelight and I think something was lost in the bigger venue. They came on at 9:30 and hit us with a quick one-two of Psychic Warfare followed by Firebirds. Rattled through a career spanning set finishing at 10:20. Enjoyable, but having seen them three times now, I think I'll skip the next one.

Gigs '25 - Spiritualized, Supergrass, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, Queens of the Stone Age, Electric Picnic, Vantastival, Sprints, Getdown Services, And So I Watch You From Afar, The Scratch

Gigs '26 - Deftones, Sleaford Mods, Stereolab, KNEECAP, Sugar, Clutch, Big Thief, Jon Spencer, The Cure, Stendhal Festival, Forest Fest, IDLES, Electric Picnic, Public Service Broadcasting, Suede/Manic Street Preachers, Korn

Hopefully someone here can help a girl out. We are looking for the second photo Kevin took in the middle of the gate. The owner of the phone walked away without sharing it with the other fans. 😒 Tia

^ Good luck with that one. 🙄

How many more venues does Dublin have hidden up it’s sleeve?

Ventured into Thomas House for the first time tonight to see Wifeswap. A band that’s heavily influenced by Fontaines but were still able to produce some excellent live moments. Love it when they do that.

    Lead singer, Joe Brody.

Bit of Dublin Gig trivia for you………

If you like going to gigs in Dublin, what’s the best bus route to live on?

I’m going to say the 73 (formerly the 123). The new route passes the front doors of The Workman’s, Vicar Street, Thomas House, Sin É, Grand Social and The Soundhouse.

    Everyday’s a school day. 😉

    Big Thief - Barrowland Ballroom

That was such an enjoyable gig. They wouldn't be my favourite band by any means but last night was just class. Sold out gig in an iconic venue. Hard to beat.

Saw Acid Reign on Friday - a band not afraid to be the butt of their own jokes and certainly a thrash metal band that will not be selling out two nights in the Aviva. Definitely had a baldy elderlies feel but they dedicated Humanoia to me as I brought my McGonagles ticket from 1990.

Brilliant! Well done you, that would made the trip over here worth it for them. Dublin has some brilliant 'Cnuts in the crowd!'. 👏

    CMAT at Anne'sPark .

Good concert . She was in great form, joking and chatting in between songs . Does talk a lot but she is very funny really , laugh out loud funny .

Mixed bag of fans... older , middle aged ,young and some very young fans all catered for . A happier and more relaxed set of concert goers would be hard to find . The fashion was astounding for someone like me who comes in the obligatory jeans and runners / flat boots , and an oul rain jacket around the waist 🤠

Sang all her hits and a beautiful rendition of Nothing Compared 2 U .2 hours singing .

The rain started just at the last note .

A line dancing group called Strut had the crowd entertained beforehand and support Joy Crook was very pleasant in the summer sunshine .

Of course people were anxious leaving because DARTs were only running to Connolly , and with Forbidden Fruit on in Kilmainham there wasn't a lift to be had in or out of town after 12 ( My OH had to collect a few stranded in town after collecting me in the rain from Brookwood Avenue ) Heard many more were having difficulty getting home last night Not sure if Dublin Bus / TFI laid on extra buses to compensate but there was an awful lot of taxis parked along near the venue which I have not noticed before .

What were Irish Rail thinking ffs? Not of their customers that's for sure .

    Lovely evening otherwise ,.

Irish rail have to do maintenance and upgrades and only options they have are weekdays or weekends. Bank holiday weekends are chosen as it’s usually the quietest weekends that they can choose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Yes but they could have chosen a weekend that was less busy In Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 573 ✭✭✭TenPicnics

Agree with all that, plus the other aspects to the gig described in the Irish Times' 5-star review. The timing of that misty rain was perfect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭colmufc

They have to do it several times a year, summer months are better as the longer days offer more time to do longer stretches of track

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,037 ✭✭✭Fanirish

and bank holidays means they get a Monday to do even more work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

So you reckon they were actually working on it all weekend ? I hope so , given the negative impact on those people travelling to South Dublin this weekend .

Now point made as far as I am concerned and we don't agree on it .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 988 ✭✭✭colmufc

Ya they are at it now still. It the 3 full days the dates are published every year and there is public info campaigning by irish rail and event promotes in the lead up to events possibly affected

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Yeah, this is happening suck it up ...great stuff.

Well if you like they can just not maintain the tracks and we can inconvenience another more people when an accident happens or they have to cut sevices for after reasons, grow up ya clown

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Ah grow up yourself... this is the review thread .You are way off here . You know that's not what I said. Wtf is wrong with you?

And don't call me a clown just cos I disagree with you about fvxxin Irish Rail !

I said they could have done it on a less busy weekend NOT that they shouldn't do it at all .

    Very disappointing .

Ya started with the sass after you were given a legitimate reason for the dart not running and basically claimed they should not personally inconvenience you.

    Done arguing

Pixies were incredible tonight in limerick

Most interaction i have seen from Frank Black ever, not to say there was much but alot more than usual

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 126 ✭✭greenkiwi1

Would rate it as one of the best gigs I have seen at the Castle - on stage for 1hr30 & even with the rain enjoyed every minute 👍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭ligind

My fourth time seeing them and the interaction from Frank was more than the other 3 combined.

Grumpy old man yelling at cloud but the amount of talking at the gig last night was bad, 4 or 5 groups around me who spent the night chatting away. I just don't get it.

No grumpy old man about it.

Id like to see those people locked into portable toilets and set on fire.

Snow Patrol were excellent in St Anne's last night. Played most of their hits also one brand new tune. Gary's voice really is brilliant live, although he did forget his words a couple of times and had a laugh. The 2 support acts were really good as well. Thankfully the weather held off till the end......got drenched on the way home tho ..well worth it, cracking night
