I suspect that Chat GPT may be responsible for 'punching up' the dialogue

Yeah, that for me too. It is such a worn out clocked. No doubt next is:

    We got company

    Who do we call? EVERYONE!

I have no problem with an ol "I've got a bad feeling about this.." but the clunky, tired dialogue in this that just fills space? They should be doing so much better than that.

The conversation up above re budget made me go back and check the Solo budget. I still can't believe they spent $300m+ on that. Almost tempted to rewatch to see what the hell happened…

"I like this kid" was another old chestnut from the guy with purple head in one of the trailers. Definitely featured in Solo and probably half a dozen other places in Star Wars

Brought the kids into see it last night. It's absolutely brutal.

I say that as a fan of the series.

My kids said they enjoyed it so I guess in all honesty it doesn't matter what I say as it's aimed at kids I assume.

    3/10

Worst part was Grogu nursing the Mandalorian back to health...that and all the fight scenes.

Saw it last weekend in Athlone. 4/10, as a star wars fan. Family were also not that impressed. One of my boys said it felt like a really long TV episode.

I thought it started well and the rest felt like filler.

I expected some quality fan service (you need to calibrate your expectations for these sort of movies) but when I think of the end of season 2 with the return of an old hero , the end of this was so flat.

I won’t complain much as these movies are made for kids , but the series had so many better stronger moments. I can’t understand how they had the whole universe to use and this was their story.

Watched it in the cinema today and really enjoyed it. I've really missed the series. Hopefully we'll see them again very soon.

I actually only came in during the credits so I might have missed the best part.

But yea this nails it for me

it is essentially 2/3 episodes stuck together, and not top-notch episodes at that…

None of the 'baddies' seemed big enough to carry a movie

Worst part was Grogu nursing the Mandalorian back to health...that and all the fight scenes.

Yeah those bits sent me to sleep too

the end of this was so flat.

Oh it was woeful. Did they even need to bomb Hutt HQ considering the twins were already dead atn that point? Why didn't Mando tell them to call it off? Big risk calling back so clearly to the climax of Star Wars when there was so little at stake this time

Went in knowing that I was probably going to be bored silly, but my god….there is much wrong with this that I don't know where to start. It is spectacularly bad.

This thing about the awful dialogue and the excuses of 'well, it's Star Wars so we just have to put up with it'…No we don't have to put up with it. It's worse than ever. The X-Wing pilots just arrive at Nal Hutta and we get 'Enemy fighters approaching' followed a second later by 'Here they come!' My toes still haven't uncurled yet.

The performances are all so mechanical with the actors sounding like they were drugged up when they arrived on set in case some personality accidentally leaked out in a scene. Pedro Pascal honestly sounds like he phones in his lines after he has just woken up from a coma.

I know all of these things were an issue in the show itself but at least we only had to sit through 40 minutes an episode.

The fact that Dave Filoni inserts himself into not one, but two scenes, shows the level of hubris involved here. And it's not even new. I think back to the prequels and the revolting sight of Lucas letting his lapdogs all have their three-second cameos in various scenes.

This is one of the most pointless films I have ever seen. In fact, calling it a film is an insult to proper filmmakers who put time, effort and creativity into their projects. After this monstrosity, if Star Wars manages to redeem itself it will be a miracle.

Tell us how you really feel...

Nah, I haven't seen it so I won't comment on your review only to say I agree with Star Wars so often getting a pass for writing or general production.

Some of this is down to producers simply not wanting to take risks and going for the safe option. While the middle Star Wars sequel has it's issue, there were some interesting ideas in there. Namely that Rey was a "nobody". She wasn't a Skywalker or member or any other legacy family. But no, they go and chicken out and we get.... "Somehow Palpatine survived" (While Isaac's dies inside saying it). Instead of having more untrained force aware people out there we are back to one family dynasty. Instead of giving space to other characters, racist bigots make the producers relegate a new character to like one line in the last movie.

So we get this. And that simply awful Boba Fett and the sassy Space Quadrophenia Kids. And a middling Obi-wan series that squandered the talent in front of the camera.

But then we get Andor which, alongside Rogue One, is the best thing they have done since Empire (IMHO of course) and a properly good show regardless of it's setting.

And, as successful as Andor was, I didn't think they'll risk anything like that again.

I am interested to see what this Ryan Gosling film will be like but, given that Filoni has now, in effect, taken over Star Wars I can just imagine movie after infantile movie... And the toxics will STILL blame Kathleen Kennedy
