Just on the post above, you mentioned that Slot turned the team from champions into a team that is hard to watch and easy to beat. Now I don't think anyone could argue with that. Some posters point out that other factors have contributed to that. You don't have to agree or disagree with that.

BUT the point that other posters are continually trying to make,is some posters in here are using those metrics to undermine and downplay us winning the league the previous season. Why the need to query if our title win had a lot got to do with luck and a perfect storm?

Arsenal finished with one more point in total this season compared to us last season. Do u think they were lucky to win the league?

I've only just seen that Frimpong was left out of the Dutch WC squad. Good news for us at least. He'll hopefully rest up and have a good pre-season.

It's become quite frustrating trying to talk to you or reading anyone else trying to talk to you, because it feels like you believe every position you hold is nuanced and well thought out, while everyone with any other opinion is only able to think in black and white, unable to take in context.

The blind faith concept can be applied equally to either position, it could be called blind faith to assume his 6/7 month hot start is his true level, it's dogmatic too to say that the year and change that followed it (which included a death, ruptured achilles, a broken leg, a handful of ACL, senior players aging out, mass squad upheavel) is his true level. Like there is context to both, you also start saying that people are 'ignoring this fact', again it's simply not true, someone can look past something without ignoring it, all decisions have trade-offs, you can say X was good, Y was bad, on the balance I come to Z conclusion.

A few posts back, you start saying people are putting everything down to his 'managerial genius' which you are obviously using as a weaksauce dig. Yet, nobody again is saying he's a managerial genius, just that some seem to think on the balance he deserves more time. You bring it up as though people are being hysterical when at very least 90% of those bothered talking to you are being anything but.

It was an appalling season, there were in essence no highlights, a massively promising summer could well go down as our worst in history (taking into account all the context) but it may yet bear fruit. My personal position would be that I would have taken the risk on bringing in Xabi, but they haven't done that, and with him now at Chelsea I don't see a really strong argument for anyone else (anyone realistic). We need about 5-7 signings too, so I know this is another thing that will upset you, but the start to next season could be very rocky regardless of who is in charge.

Considering you start off complaining about posters being misquoted it's incredibly ironic that you then put quotation marks around a sentence that literally nobody has said.

"Slot is entirely responsible for the good bits, and not responsible for the bad bits"

At least aim for a bit of consistency.

Agreed. It's very tiresome to read. It's just the same 4 or 5 talking points repeated over and over again for days now with everyone intentionally misinterpreting what the other side is saying to make themselves sound better.

To be fair, most of the Liverpool team can have no gripes if they're left out of their national squads given the season they've just had. Confidence shouldn't feature in the discussions, they were useless all year

Pep is bald doesn't seem to impact him not sure why it would be an issue for slot ?

I don't know about Frimpong in particular but some of the players did ok when they went away with their National teams.

Being Dutch and bald and a football manager has parallels to ETH. Not sure which universe but that's where it is.

That first quote was definitely me, as I recall there were a few posters who were quick to jump in and mock me for the likes before you stepped in on my behalf. Thanks again for that.

I still have a number of reservations about Slot, the little things that irked me are still there to see.

Salah's drop off in form last season coincided with not having a proper fullback playing behind him to progress the ball up the right flank. That lesson was not learned, so it was no surprise that when we lost both Frimpong and Bradley that the right side of the team became a disaster area. In 24/25, Quansah, Jones and Endo were not the answer so instead this season we got to see Szoboszlai, Gomez and Jones give it a go.

Why Ramsay was never afforded the opportunity to take on the position is anybody's guess, according to Slot he believed the other players were better in the position. By utilising Szoboszlai, he gutted the midfield in order to fill the position which was crazy given the lack of running from Mac Allister this season although I don't think that was Slot's intention. Szoboszlai played at right back in the behind closed doors friendly against Stoke in preseason as a way to get him on the pitch at the same time as Wirtz and there were a few nice moments where their movement in combination with Salah confounded the opposition defenders. That may have given Slot the idea that it could work during the season.

A Rangers supporter told me when van Bronkhorst replaced Heitinga that the team would probably regress to playing what he termed "horse shoe" football, basically passing from one flank to the other without threatening the opposition. I'm hopeful that his departure and the arrival of Slot's assistant at Feyenoord will see the team play more progressively next season.

Whether or not Slot chooses to utilise the squad of players rather than just the core group of 14-15 will determine whether he remains at the club long term. That mentality would be successful in the Eredivisie, but he should realise by now that the Premier League is a completely different animal and 10-15 minute cameos for fringe players don't help anyone.

This season was a walking disaster and I think Slot deserves the opportunity to get things right. I wouldn't be against the idea of giving him a one year extension this summer to offer him some additional stability and let him determine his own fate.

We will celebrate a CL spot this time next year

Just as Senesi signs for Spurs, he'd have been a decent option on a free for an experienced head while Leoni and Jacquet get up to speed

If Konate goes, I think a better senior player than Senesi will be needed.

Whether we think Slot is the right man or not is irrelevant as it looks certain he will be there next season. Personally I hoped we would change, but, once Alonso went to Chelsea I kinda knew we weren't going to change Slot. I genuinely hope he turns it around as I'm sure everyone here does.

I also think that, regardless of performances that if we stay in and around the CL places he will get the full season again, as FSG aren't going to sack him mid season unless they really have to or have an outstanding candidate already lined up like when they got Klopp - which is highly unlikely as I can't think of any outstanding candidate that might be available mid season.

I think Slot got lucky in that he got a very fit well drilled Klopp team who knew each other inside out and he added to that with his few tweaks such as a bit more control. Slow, slow go for it etc.

However the fitness levels have worn off and they ain't pressing like they did. Plus losing diaz , jota rip, nunez didnt help.

I can't understand why gravenberch, mcallister have been so bad this season. But they ain't got the legs. Maybe now they are exposed as no pressing monsters ahead of them.

They definitely need to sign i think 2 very good midfielders, joao gomes and one more. Lads that will run all day and tackle hard.

They need a right back who's not 5 foot 1. Who can tackle, pass, defend on ground and in air. Think a hincapie like. Another hincapie like player on the left side who can play left back or centre for vvd. Defenders need height now with Premier league set pieces. Need to be physical, good in air and be able to run all day

They need at least 2 forwards .salah replacement and I think a left winger. Maybe a 3rd forward. Toney would be great signing.

    Thurs my two cents

I have yet tk see slot really improve players so will see. Iraola will be manager by December

    van hecke maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭CajunSurprise

Trigger Schlotterbeck’s buyout clause which is about €60m.

Have him play beside VVD for the season before taking over the leadership role from him. Then trigger the buyback on Quansah next summer.

They need a more experienced CB now if the Konate news is true. Maybe someone like Slotterbeck or possibly Van Hecke if you want PL experience.

I don't see them going back in for quansah this summer but he could be an option as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,551 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Agree with everything you said about what the squad needs. Even though we have been stripped of attacking players last summer and now defenders,I think our biggest problem that needs to be sorted ASAP is midfield. Would like us to get Wharton and some else athletic to play beside him,and Gravenberch could play further forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,254 ✭✭✭Talisman

The buy back clause for Quansah becomes active in July 2027.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭CajunSurprise

Michael Edwards maybe showing he isn’t the genius in the suit he was hyped up to be.

The squad planning has completely fallen apart since his return the talent signed is fine but as we’ve seen a many other places buying the best players that doesn’t always make the best team.

I read the other day it was 60m this summer or 50 next summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,768 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Edwards isn't involved in the squad building he's only looking after the multi club project I think? Hughes is the one doing the other.

Konate is not worth the £220K a week rumoured salary he's looking for. It's a shame to lose home but that's to much for him per week.
