If you're going to make a statement at least do something worthwhile.

I missed it, but I think it was a “Don’t play the Israel games” thing?

Umeh going past two players with his first possession of the ball.

    More of that, please.

The Qatar’s about to change another 5 players, we’re still sticking with the minimum so far.

I like HH, but what’s the point in this game if not using the whole bench? None of the starting outfielders should be finishing this game.

That's mad. Two red cards in a walking pace friendly.

Football's attitudes to head injuries is an absolute disgrace.

Bring on more of the young lads ffs.

Mention of Richie Partridge, now that's a blast from the past.

Bringing on Melia for a few minutes, what the hell is the point in that? He should have been brought on 15 minutes ago at least. Leaving Collins, Coleman, Molumphy and Kelligher on for 90 minutes is pointless aswell. Disappointingly conservative from Hallgrimson particularly as he pretty much did the same thing in the friendly against North Macedonia also.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,906 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

**** sake, Melia doesn't even get to touch the ball. Why didn't we make more changes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,362 ✭✭✭✭Kermit.de.frog

I don't know why he didn't bring on more subs sooner when the opportunity is there. What's the point in these nothing games other than that? No one was ever going to care about the result.

I think a lot of the players that played tonight won't be going to Canada for that game so most likely HH will use that to give other players a chance

    Are we qualified now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,383 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I thought it was lamenting Jannik Sinners Roland Garros exit?

managers care about all results. A late concession is obviously not a disaster but I’m just telling you managers care about each and every W and it keeps spirits up and smiles on faces with the players for the long trip ahead.

The protests against that Israel match are only beginning.

I don't see that game going ahead in Dublin. I'm surprised that they haven't already moved the game to the neutral venue in Hungary where the nominal away game v Israel will be staged.

I think he was playing for the win. Friendly or not, these games marginally count towards FIFA rankings, and wins will always boost confidence regardless of the opposition. Nicer for the fans there to be going home celebrating a 1-0 win as opposed to a 1-1 draw. I do agree Melia should have been on 5 or 10 minutes earlier, and Hodge should have gotten a cap.

Only the beginning …a snapshot of the 'protest' tonight

    Opera Snapshot_2026-05-28_222557_x.com.png

And Kelly and Cunning rowing in with the mantra, the people of Ireland don't want the game to go ahead….put it to a poll, because as is you can't let a minority dictate to a majority, it's not how it works

or if it's meant as some kind of threat 'only the beginning'? give us our way or chaos ensues…that's not how it works either

The majority of the elected representatives of football in Ireland voted for UEFA to sanction the Israel national team. UEFA didn't sanction them. The Israel games v other nations have gone ahead but in many cases played in the neutral venue of Budapest.

You're talking about "threats"? The threats I see thrown around are about Ireland and their soccer team facing severe sanction if they don't fulfill the fixture. Looks like the fixtures will happen but I'd be surprised if the game goes ahead in Dublin and I'm surprised they haven't already moved it.

I think there's a thread for the Israel fixtures so I guess that's where these posts should be.

Norway played Israel and hammered them. That's the best way to deal with it.

Or show a bit of backbone like Czech Republic, Poland, and Sweden did when it came to Russia. And that goes for all teams not just us.

that came after uefa had moved the CL final from being held at Petersburg.

It’s kind of presented as Poland etc made the first move on Russia but it was uefa who sanctioned them slightly earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,097 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Yes the refusal to play them whatsoever came after the CL move but their refusal to play in Russia came before UEFA banned games being held in Russia. They came out the next day after that and said their refusal to play was now a full on refusal regardless of where the match is being played.

If those three teams didn't take a stand the ban for Russia could easily have been home games only. Like it is for Israel.

The FAI members are seeking an EGM to vote on it.

In my opinion, I think its very much the minority who want the game to go ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,383 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

No Russia was getting banned anyway. Unless people want to claim the Czech/Polish/Swedish boycott inspired the FIA to ban Russian drivers and make Haas F1 change their livery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 504 ✭✭✭Greengrass53

So what if we are banned for a few matches, we rarely qualify for any finals anyway. We should do the right thing and we'll be glad afterwards. We know what it's like to have a bully onyour doorstep so we need to do everything we possibly can to help Palestinians.

What is achieved by the game being played at a neutral venue. The game still goes ahead giving Israel an advantage.
