Any specific benefit of this ecosystem?

I don't have any myself but it's good to see cross platform compatibility and the "works with Home Assistant" logo among the usual proprietary home hub logos.

I’ve an Aqara Smart lock, the U200 and also two Aqara IP cameras.

The smart lock has been an amazing addition, though I’m waiting for them to release an updated version with UWB support and I’ll upgrade to that once it comes out, so while it is great, I’d recommend waiting until a UWB version comes out.

The cameras work well too, I use them with Apple HomeKit Secure Video (and also SD card) and they are by far the cheapest option that works with HSV.

They also have lots of other interesting and even innovated projects like their presence sensors, though I haven’t tried that yet, just don’t need it. They also have really interesting light switches.

They have lots of new sensors that work with Matter and HomeKit.

Basically pretty good products that the latest ones work with Matter and Thread and work well with HomeKit. Plus some innovative stuff.

are you using the smart lock on an external door? just curious if you had any issues / problems with home insurance?

Sort of, I live in an apartment, so it is on my front door but that leads into the building public shared corridor.

There would be no issues with insurance, it doesn’t replace my original lock, I still have the same Eurocylinder lock and key, the smart lock just attaches to the back of it.

Though iconically, when I installed it, I did take the opportunity to replace my old basic Eurocylinder lock with a new high security one. So it is actually more secure then in the past!

The funny thing is that the locks on 90% of doors are terrible and are trivial for a thief to break into and if you do use a good lock, then nothing stopping them smashing a window.

I of course also use a home security system and IP cameras overlooking the door.

I've had the FP300 presence sensor since launch, running Philips Hue on Google Home via Thread… Battery hasn't been great and presene sensing has been a bit poor, particularly when you are sitting still on the couch. Also, once its added to GH by Thread, it's no longer available in the Aqara app.

I added a M100 hub this week for €29, which allows it to be added to and managed in the Aqara app and allow other devices to be added too by Zigbee… Now I have more control over the sensor and am much happier so far. I'll give it a bit more time, but having control over the device is a big relief. I believe I'm also meant to get three years of battery now too…
