Boards Golf Society Rd-4 Gowran Park – Saturday 30th of May First tee: 10:00am

Really looking forward to getting back to Gowran. I haven’t played it since the last Boards outing there and, unusually for me, I managed to bag two twos on the par-3 5th and 9th holes that day 😁.

There was a time many moons ago I lost my shirt at the Thyestes Racing Festival. Luckily enough I had bought a return Bus Éireann ticket on the way down, as it would’ve been one hell of a walk home 😂
Thankfully these days it’s only golf balls and the odd fiver.

For those of you who haven’t played Gowran, it’s set on an old estate which it shares with the racecourse. It starts off with some nice open holes before carving through some beautiful forestry with a few tighter driving holes. The variety of holes spread across the course makes for a great day’s golfing.
We’ve 32 spots currently blocked off, so if you’re thinking of playing, please get your name down early and I’ll look at securing extra times if needed.
With the 10:00am start, hopefully we’ll get a free run around and avoid getting stuck behind another society. Being a bank holiday weekend, I’m sure plenty of ye will be eager to get home at a reasonable hour.

ClubNet will be available for booking from this Thursday at 7pm.
Green fee: €50

Can't wait to get back to Gowran. It's been a happy hunting ground for me with Boards over the years.

I broke 80 for the first time ever and won the outing

We returned in my cursed Covid year as Captain, and I went on to break 80 again, and won the outing again.

So, I'll be targeting a trio of wins...think that means I get to keep Gowran if I manage it 🤔

To those thinking...random golf course I've never heard of, at a race-course, don't be put off. Its a proper hidden gem of a course.

Once you play the first couple of holes and walk through the gap in the trees you're walking into a beautiful mature tree lined estate. Its really worth the trip.

See ye there...hopefully you're all playing for 2nd place 😆

Really enjoyed this course the first time I played here about 3/4 years ago, truly a hidden gem, especially going into the parklands after the racecourse holes. The averagegolfer channel put together a very good review of a recent visit to Kilkenny playing Gowran, here's his guide to it;

Great course and the one I had pegged for starting my assault on the leaderboard.

Enjoy it folks, it really is a course worth playing well on.

Unfortunately I will have to cancel my long awaited return until 2027 as i will be spending quite a bit of time over the next few months being irradiated so i can glow in the dark.

I look forward to reading all the post mortems..haha, not a great choice of words really under the circumstances..as we move towards the squeaky bum, calculators out time of the boards season.

Unfortunately I will miss this 1 aswell….. clashing with my annual pilgrimage to Roryfest in Ballyshannon.Before my golfing days my main hobby was music so this 1 remaining thread of rocking it out for a weekend is a bit of a fix I always look forward to.

I'm sure ye will have a great outing and I will definetly make the next 1.

Good morning lads,

It’s been a longer than normal break between outings and I’m sure, like myself, many of ye are absolutely chomping at the bit to get back out there.
With the ground now good to firm, I don’t think we’ll have any worries about plugged balls this weekend 😎 .While the weather might not be quite as glorious as it has been lately, it’s still shaping up to be a decent day this Saturday.
Anyway, we’re off the whites this weekend.
Longest and most accurate drive will be on the 6th 🫣
Nearest the Pin will be on the 9th.

Looking forward to seeing ye all back out there.

We're sticking with the 6th for the Longest and most accurate drive 😁. But being the day that's in it we will have a prize for traditional LD on the 18th as well.
