Sorry I'm perhaps confused or maybe you are .

You cut the grass down. Then you deploy your robot mower and it maintains there after. There is no grass to 'cut the feck down' because the mower operates continuously on schedule. There's no you , to forget to mow anything or put it on the long finger so that grass grows to excess heights .

I think you may be thinking about this the wrong way around as if the mower will work as you do today. It's revamping that entirely.

The AWD model has "all-wheel" drive, the front wheel is driven which helps with steering and traction.

While its not 4wd, It's a big improvement from the old Husqvarna mower with the caster wheels on the front.
Perhaps that's an inaccurate impression - is there a model that can be told to mow over whatever the feck is in the way, so that all the grass gets cut, no excuses?
A robot mower should be thought of as a robot shaver. Cut a little, cut often. It doesn't mow & if you tell it to just cut whatever, you will end up an expensive broken machine very quick.

It should run every 2nd day or even every day in high growth season.

That's - for me - the sticking point. If a robo mower cannot mow all the grass all of the time without "preparatory work" of some kind, then it's not mowing the grass. Molehills, fallen branches, more molehills, windfall apples, anthills, yet more molehills, crazy brambles and blackthorn invading from the side . My grass grows through all of that, so I expect a mower to deal with it too. The ride-on does (every two days in the growing season) ; so that's my baseline for an acceptable new purchase.

Some time ago (on this thread) I also indicated that the most useful feature of a robo mower would be for it to keep the grass under control while I'm away. But again, I'm still not seeing any of you who have them talk about how they operated without fault and without any human intervention whatsoever for four to eight weeks at a time. If I'm going to have to cut the grass with the ride-on anyway every time I come home, then the robot is essentially useless … especially if I come home and find the moles boxed it into a corner on the first day and it never did any mowing the whole month long. [yeah, I had one of those self-driving toy cars that would regularly get stuck in a corner despite valiantly attempting many three-point turns.]

You're not getting it at all. Your opening line explains it entirely a few different posters have attempted to tell you how it works. But it's not going in .

Stick with your ride on, it's what you know. Itll look after your grass whilst your on holidays too 😉😄

You are correct that an automower will not satisfy your requirements.

I have one for many years and it has never run for 8 weeks without intervention. I have very steep slopes and lots of trees and shrubs. It might work to that level of reliability on a level area.

In Ireland we don't have moles, so molehills aren't an issue. The automower will prevent anthills from being built, and it won't allow brambles to grow. It will bounce around fallen branches and apples, but it won't remove them.

The automower is great for me, but might not work for you.

    Stick with what suits you.

Anyone with a Luba, in the app the task details pops up sometimes in the app view in kinda lower right middle side of the screen but the details are pressable so you can see content and settings of the task. Its a small white box with a few lines on it. However it doesn't seem to appear all of the time. Is there specific point in action this should appear ? It seems inconsistent I can't tell when it pops up and when not

I saw a good few robotmowers in my local Aldi, 249 euro, its a perimeter wire model.

Had the no loop message yesterday for the 2nd time in 6+ years. It was the switch that I have to exclude part of the lawn. Ants had built a nest inside. Obvious and quick to see.

The first time was my clumsy shovel work.

could you explain that in more detail? Got the no loop signal yesterday and need to go through all the possible issues for the weekend

He's got a custom switch to switch his cable loop making it larger or smaller for an additional area. His switch was infested.

Yours would probably not be setup like this.

I don't think my particular issue would be of any help as it was visually obvious.

If I were to troubleshoot a break, l would refer to my days firing explosive rounds in mines.

    1. Check to supply is ok by running a short cable across the terminals.
    2. Visually check the cable run for obvious damage. Holes in the ground etc..
    3. If still broken, half the circuit with a cable to the mid point to determine which half of the loop is broken.
    4. Run the cable to the mid point of the broken half.
    5. Repeat until the short section is determined and replace it.

Lots of digging and new connectors needed. It was so much easier in mining when the wires were just twisted together.

For the record - Open the app. Select Notifications (little bell icon). It will list recent alerts. Select the alert/fault & it will show the location.

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

thank you for the tips. I wasn’t able to get to it this weekend as it was so busy, but I’ve noticed when Iv come home from work the last 2 evenings the mower sitting in the middle of the lawn, with an error message. It would be in the docking station before this, so I’m not sure why it came out, then just stops - and how that relates to the no loop signal issue.

Has anyone seen this before? It’s the husqvarna 430x

It would do that if it's got no loop. It's one of the things that can occur. Just stops dead. Could be weak signal then loses connection totally .

Could you screen grab this, I don't quite follow.

App has all changed on me today

Updated all. I haven't found that icon appearing yet. However it only popped up sporadically some times too.

It's amazing how fragile they can be though all the same. I seem to have one's break due to rabbits in the past . At a guess.

Just bought the navimow i220 have not set it up yet. My base station is across the yard from the lawn so when mapping how do I get from charging station to lawn it wouldn't be part of the mapped area. How is your mower working

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,639 ✭✭✭denismc

My mower is going great! I still haven't received my "free garage".

So to create a passageway to the cutting area, go to edit map and " Add More". This gives you the option to create a channel between different areas.

Im not sure how well this will work though when the mower is outside the cutting area.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 499 ✭✭zetor 4911

Great to hear it is going well. I will try the setup shortly just sorting out a few issues with the lawn. Thanks for your help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,643 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

My set up is possibly similar.

3 lawns and base station is outside the mowing areas and the channels work perfectly.

Hi all - the ride-on has finally given up, well it's gonna cost 700 euro for repair, plus it is at least 20 years old, so not sure it is worth the investment.

Options are to pay for the repair or with a budget of 1500-2000 euros - buy a second hand ride-on or go down the robot route. I'm leaning towards the latter, hence the post.

Local place sells Mountfield robot mowers, the MR1500 is on budget (and has a cashback promotion), but with my limited knowledge I haven't heard of the brand before. Any one here have experience with these?

Area is 1200m2, fairly flat (bit of a slope out the front), has one large no mow area and has some overhanging trees along one side of the site. Back garden and front garden(s) are connected.

From reading the last few pages here Segway and Luba seem to be good candidates to consider, but would like thoughts on any Mountfiend owners here.

Would also be interested in hearing if anyone knows of anyone that would buy the old ride-on?

    Thanks.

Being honest. Didn't know mountfield made robot mowers. I only know them as the budget mowers in woodies many moons ago when I worked there. Cheap and cheerful petrol mowers metal decks prone to rust.

Robot mower, not sure what sort of money are the offering ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,913 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

I think they are offering €200 cashback for the MR1500.
