Came across a comment on FB regarding the temperatures in the UK and Ireland that if this hot spell had occurred just a week or so later there would be no records broken as we would be in June and so no May record or June record ( apart from the earliest 30c and 35c ,though with an extra week or so perhaps the UK would have broken its June record of 35.6c?) . True it can all be about timing but then again IF your aunt had balls she would be your uncle .

Same as above except 15c. Just a gorgeous morning. I don't worry about records, I just enjoy it for what it is when it comes. Im just doing a bit of moseying around today.

It was dandelions earlier in the month but it's buttercups now. Some consider these plants weeds but I think they look pretty

Another glorious morning. Hellish in the house last night. My room was 25.9 degrees 😭It made for a very uncomfortable sleep, for what sleep I got.

Wouldn't mind cooler temps at night so I could get a proper sleep!

Nothing to do with timing. These temperatures where a full month earlier exactly, than the previous earliest dates they were recorded in Ireland and the UK.

But if it occurred a week later the sun would be stronger, the sea a bit warmer, and the days slightly longer. All things that greatly affect maximum temperatures in summer. Which is why June is always hotter than May.

The fact that these temperatures are occurring in late spring is mind blowing.

I know the media likes to try make a big story out of everything these days, especially the weather, which can sometimes be tiring.

But this weather isn’t about “timing”. It’s about climate change.

    or as boffins say

BBC This heat would be exceptional even in the middle of summer, let alone spring.

Already 23.1C here near Tralee on the coast, warm breeze atm from the East, will it give a little bit extra from fohn effect before thunderstorms might arrive in the afternoon. Models often don't pick up that extra 1 to 2C extra potential.

My garden is quite wild and it's full of buttercups. I love them. Here is a pic with buttercup and blue speedwell and bush vetch emerging (the bees go daft for that purple flower).

    Another cracking day.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Whilst it may be the technical record for overnight (I am not able to confirm), it's not the min record or indeed an official "tropical night". The above was a 18-06 record min at Valentia (again if it is indeed) whereas the July 1989 min is a 24-hour record from 09-09. An official tropical night is defined as the min temp not falling below 20C within that 24-hour period. Valentia had 36 consecutive hours above 20C but fell below within the timeframe required to be defined as a tropical night or be a contender for the 24-hour min temp record. It had 18.0C at 0900 UTC on the 4th September and fell below 20C from 2200 UTC on the 5th September.

I know, it's a lot to get your head around…

It's a new day and records still being broken before midday has even arrived. Valentia had 27.6C at 1100 IST.

Its previous May record was 27.2C on 31st May 1997.

Yes the 24 hour period, now that you mention it I remember the discussion regarding same at the time. A pity, amazing temps 18 to 06, and that time of year. I remember watching the hourly Met reports that night and 25c at 3am on 5 September was truly mind blowing! I saved the screenshot somewhere on a laptop!

Seems slightly breezy this morning Dublin 9 but omg what a great few days we've been having! It's so nice to look out at endless blue skies. It feels more like mid June than late May!

another glorious day here in Dublin City not as warm as yesterday but lovely , wonder if we will get some thunderstorms today , I know they can bubble up pretty much anywhere with heat and warnings would be difficult to issue

The Malin Head outlier continues!! How can it be possible that one solitary station in the entire country has such an extreme micro climate that means its practically 10C colder than every other station in the country? It only reached 12C max yesterday in the midst of a heatwave where Shannon Airport was 18C warmer! 12C woukd be like a max temp on some January days where you'd wear your winter overcoat and have the heat on all day. Do the locals there mind missing out on warm weather so often? The mind boggles!

The sea temperature around Mailin Head of around 12c and a north easterly wind might explain a lot!

I know all to well, where I live, in Greystones, approx. 25 metres from the sea, the effect of sea temperature and an onshore wind! Didn't even manage 18c yesterday.
