Well fook me there's a new one.

King of Yacht Rock and Chillout Mr Christopher "Sailing" Cross at the Bord Gais tonite rivals Motley Crue at Marlay Park for the title of loudest gig to actually blow my sinuses and trigger a nose bleed. The volume tonite was like sitting continuously under the thrust of an F18. Eventually I had to complain and move. I wasn't alone.

Lest I be accused of falling into the groove of "old woman shouts at cloud" I was at Fatboy Slim headlining BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend last Friday in Sunderland, right down the front where the volume and visuals were perfectly glorious.

Gig tonite was also only 75 minutes long at €102 per ticket - outrageous. And even bevvies aren't allowed in to numb the torture.

Bye bye Bord Gais - never again.

    Totally agree…

I was there last night too and yet again those in charge of sound let the band down badly.

Why do they insist in mikeing up the bass and snare drum and setting the bass guitar to chest compression mode. These two instruments whenever they were involved totall overcame anything else playing. Best bits were when they were not involved.

Very dissappointing ( but not unusual unfortunately)

bord gais doesn’t have a in house PA for live music so it’s always a rental and venue isn’t designed for it. Often leads to temperamental nights

I was there and enjoyed it. I was down the back so the sound really didn't bother me. Only thing was the short time of the gig and Think Of Laura was cut from the setlist.

There was no excuse for the shambolic acoustics. Heartbreaking on these beautiful songs. The vocals sounded like a PA in a cattle mart.

I think there were/are two more nights in Kerry/Mayo and I wonder did the issue follow them around or was solely BGE related.

the venue was never designed acoustically for live music of that nature, so it’s always a difficult venue to get right

Just back from Christopher Cross in Killarney. Very enjoyable gig. Big crowd. Played for around 80 minutes. Decent backing band too. His voice has held up well considering he recently turned 75.
