Indeed, thank god for an awful tipp and Waterford team. Clare were terrible today and the two best teams have made the Munster final. Clare will get another day out anyway, not really sure will they go much farther.

I would say terrible is a bit strong. You could argue that Waterford or Tipperary would get out of Leinster if in that competition.

For once I don’t think you could say waterford were terrible bar the first 30mins in the tip game 🤷

It would rause serious questions about this championship format if Clare win next day out, hockied in 2 games but get 4 weeks off to play the Leinster runners up who will be off a gruelling provincial final, at the very least the provincial runner up shoukd have home advantage.

I thought Dublin were excellent yesterday and would not have been flattered to win by 10 points. Had some poor wides in first half and an awful one by Purcell early 2nd half.

The aggression and tight marking of their backs is what really impressed me as well as their use of the ball. Paddy Smyth was brilliant all through but the rest of them were as good in the 2nd half .

Brian Hayes gave one of the best most tireless performances I've seen. Donal Burke is a funny one , anonymous lot of the tiny but when he gets a bit of space to shoot hes clinical . The Dublin managers of the past 10 years who never picked hetherton must be feeling silly now. He's an absolute beast with the skill to match.

One thing for sure if Galway are not 100% tuned in and up for the fight they won't win the final. Because we know Dublin have the right mentality and attitude.

Hayes already looks like a nailed-on All-Star and maybe a contender for HOTY too. Some absolute machine.

Ya it's tougher to regain momentum than keep it and it's all with Dublin right now. They also had a few players out injured yesterday so could get a boost if any are back in time.

I would have them as favourites now based purely on energy levels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,526 ✭✭✭littlevillage

Yeah, would have Dublin as clear favourites for Leinster now as they have already beaten Galway in the round robin and are really firing on all cylinders.... Where as Galway seem to have lost a bit of their early momentum and just about fell over the line again yesterday. Galway relying too much on underage players and that has bitten them on the ass as they just aren't upto it physically over an intensive campaign.

And as mentioned earier, Clare waiting in the long grass for the Leinster provisional loser

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,290 ✭✭✭endainoz

I don't think either Leinster loser will be too worried about playing Clare going by such a lackluster performance yesterday

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,833 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Clare have 4 weeks to get ready and they really need it. They have been useless so far and only got out because their opposition was dire.

I think Galway got a bit ahead of themselves after beating Kilkenny which looking back now wasn't all that special. Being the only team to beat Offaly was their real high point but they lost the biggest test they got.

Cork and Limerick can hammer anyone on their day. Cork scored 7 26 against a lot of that Dublin team last year but yes they do seem to have tightened up a lot defensively. Very hard not to think a Cork Limerick Munster and all ireland final but would have said the same last year.

The 4 week break probably suits Clare.

They arent the type of team that can play many matches in a short space of time.

I imagine if there is to be a bolter again this year, Dublin are probably the most likely candidates?

Clare look to be absolutely maxed out, I said it here last week that you could read little enough into the big win against an absolutely dire Tipp performance. They could beat the Leinster losers, but they would have to go through both Limerick and Cork in whichever order after that which is no-chance for me.

Offaly will be easily beaten by the Munster runner up.
Galway are on the rise, but I can't see them featuring this year.

Dublin have an astute manager, an extremely well-conditioned pacy team, look to have improved defensive issues which saw them destroyed last year, they have long and short options in their attack and they have Brian Hayes.

So for me they are the likely ones if there is to be a bolter, but I think most likely Cork and Limerick are a score a man better than any other team left in it

Plus the fact he had to play a different role with rushes late withdrawal . Hard to beat pure pace and the hurling brain to go with it.

Brian Hayes was excellent for Dublin yesterday. He’s got exactly the type of all-round profile that could really make him the superstar that Dublin hurling has been desperate for that could really bring ‘the Dubs’ feel to hurling.

Another I was really impressed with was Conor Donoghue. In fact the entire middle 8 were brilliant.

Brian Hayes is a class hurler and hurling up a storm in every match. Is definitely in the conversation for an All-Star and if he keeps going at the huge standards he has set, he'll be in the top 4/5 hurlers across the country on current form by years end. Gave an iconic display yesterday I felt and is so intelligent on the ball. His pace is frightening too and if/when Rushe is back, it will.afford him the opportunity to rampage further up the field

The tale of 2 Brian Hayes's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,752 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

He's not the most physically strong looking player either but he sure can take and give the hits. Some engine on him.

With the round Robin series in munster and leinster finished i think its a good time to have a re-cap and see who has impressed most so far.

    Team of championship so far

    1. Billy Nolan
    2. Sean finn
    3. Ben connelly
    4. Niall o leary
    5. Diarmuid byrnes
    6. Daithi Burke
    7. Mark Coleman
    8. Cian Kenny
    9. Brian Hayes (Dublin)
    10. Donal Burke
    11. Aiden o Connor
    12. Cathal o neill
    13. William buckley
    14. Brian Hayes (cork)
    15. Eoghan cahill

Unlucky; Barry Nash, eoin Downey, Adam English, rory Burke, Stephen Bennett, gearoid hegarty, conor whelan, Alan connolly

It's hard to say if one is better than the other because I see a lot more of Limerick than other teams but Darragh O’Donovan has been unbelievable. He might actually be having his best season for Limerick and I would have him on any 15 right now.

Dan Morrissey looking back to his best too.

If they want to go knockouts for the Munster/Leinster Championships they'll probably need to more teams to Leinster or something

Seedlings for All Ireland group stage

    Munster winners (Munster 1)

    Leinster winners (Leinster 1)

    Munster Runner Up (Munster 2)

    Leinster Runner up (Leinster 2)

And so on getting to (Munster 5/ Leinster 6/7/8) been the lowest seeds

    .

Not sure about having 2 Cork backs. Not their best trait. Think William O’Donoghue and Hego should be on that 15. Donal Bouke is a class ball striker but hardly known for ball winning grunt, aka Hego

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 236 ✭✭Shocs24

What about hurler of the year. Brian Hayes (Cork) or Cathal O’Neill both well worth a punt

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,016 ✭✭✭C4000

Good team. Can think of one or two other names id have in the mix, but hard to argue with your picks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,016 ✭✭✭C4000

If Limerick win the all ireland, i'd be looking at Byrnes based on form to date. In terms of value bets, William Buckley at 33/1 or Darragh O Donovan at 80/1. Its a funny one as it often comes down to the narrative that builds up around individual players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,234 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

For me, Paddy Smyth for O'Leary, Hego for O'Connor, with Donal Burke moving to 11, and Darragh O'Donovan at midfield instead of Kenny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,366 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

Darragh o Donovan has been excellent. I knew I'd forget a couple 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,366 ✭✭✭Krazy gang

Tbh I just did it quickly and didn't give it too much thought. Hegarty and wod would be well worth their places. On the cork backs they have been much improved this year. Only 3 goals conceded i think in 4 matches

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,752 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

I know Wexford as a team have been shite but how has Lee Chin performed. He's usually a class act.

He has carried the team on his back all year, even more then previous years because they were missing so many top names. It wasn't enough, and most teams knew that if they held him up Wexford had very few other options, so that's what they did. He wouldn't make a best fifteen for me simply because teams were able to Devote resources to stopping him.
