Did you miss the bit about no satellites and very few recording stations in the 19th century when our highest ever temp recorded was and since has not been broken?

Show me the same prolific records from back then versus now and you can stake your claim as to this warming never happening in a time with much less Co2 because logic tells me that it could have been happening

We had floods thunderstorms and heatwaves galore, just no proliferation of weather stations, satellite or internet to record it

Mind you we havent prolific Co2 recording from the 19th century either

The above points do not mean of course that we should be pumping all sorts of crap into our atmosphere

    Of course we shouldn’t

Looks like a lot of thunder and lightning in and around the portlaoise area according to the windy app

    Can anyone confirm?

Ireland and UK both record new May record high temperature by several c.

    In France

Tuesday was the hottest day ever known in May with an average temperature of 24.8 °C (temporary value on May 26, at 5 p.m.) nationwide (thermal indicator).

France had never reached such temperature levels in May, while the meteorological summer only begins on June 1.

Abnormally hot episodes in the past have already taken place, as in May 1947, 1953, 1992, 2005, 2017, 2022, but without common measure with this one.

Temperatures frequently exceed 35 °C in the afternoon and do not fall below 20 °C at night, with temperature anomalies of almost 15 degrees compared to normal.

Unprecedented heat levels for a month of May were thus recorded, nationally, and more particularly on the west facade of the country, the most affected at the moment. The previous maximum values observed, often dating from 2022 or 2017, are exceeded, sometimes by several degrees, and this several days in a row.

This heat episode is very close to heat wave thresholds. The earliest heat wave had so far been that of mid-June 2022.

Heat continues for the rest of the week in France, locally 39c.

Remarkable and wonderful day. Beautiful half moon in the clear sky to the East.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

There are no words to describe how absolutely amazing this weather has been😎. I know most of us in school/work last two days but at least we all had the weekend and evenings!

Kids busy here having a water fight, no early to bed these days😁🌡

Thinking of M.T today, he would have been delighted for us breaking these records. If we still had the monthly weather forecast going, I bet no one would have predicted the max temperature!

I reallly enjoyed this weather as apple drop said unreal , heat dome id call it anyway would be hotter if it was July but today was nice in Dublin with the breeze those inland I’d say you where roasted , mam gone to Vancouver but flight was overbooked so she’s in London for the night in 35c I certainly wouldn’t like that even though it may happen here some day

Yes - owing to an easterly wind. 21/22 max in the east.

Unreal day. Thankfully didn't have to do much in it. Ran on Greenway at 630am and it was bright, sunny and 15⁰ at that stage. If felt like the middle of another day in normal temps iykwim.

How is the West so hot tomorrow on the map compared to east. I welcome the break to lower 20's ha

    23⁰ Meath

    A remarkable and historic day.

Let’s hope we don’t have to wait too long for our next period of hot weather! I’ll stick my neck out and say around 16th June will be our next. And more prolonged next time please. 2018 style.

Highest I seen here today was 26c. It was another great day and a pleasure to be out in it. It made handling the bales a bit trickier as the wrap was very soft, but got our job done and all is good. Hopefully I can spend the next couple of days just enjoying the sun.

today was a lovely day in Meath but nowhere as warm as the southern half of the country, got to 23C here today. 2 more days of this weather and normal service resumes from Friday. We won't be getting our typical Leaving Cert weather next week. Opening 7 to 10 days of June look poor to say the very least. Make the most of the next 2 days.

Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for another decent spell of warm/hot and sunny weather. After todays exceptional temperatures across the south-west I'm beginning to believe that such a set up if it were mid July could finally see that 33C being beaten.

absolutely I said that earlier if it where July I’d say we could have seen 34°c maybe 35°c , here in Dublin City it was 23c but felt warmer as at times there was no breeze , and believe it or not the hospital has the heating on as well just as well I got a little fan in Lidl last week , I’d much rather be too cold than too hot

Great day but didn't even manage 18c in Greystones. High of 17.9c.

That's right beside the sea - I'm sure 500m or so inland was a bit warmer.

It was as warm a day as I remember in Laois. That real heatwave wall of heat feel you associate with the second half of June, July and August.

Considering last Monday week was 7/8C with heavy cold rain and windchill this has been the greatest swing from cold Spring weather to hot weather I ever remember.

Still reading an astonishing 27 ⁰C at 21.00 at Shannon.

So astonishing, I'd be surprised if its correct, though some other stations are at 22 and 23.

But if it is correct, the nighttime Min record could go, not just for May, but for all time. It stands at a paltry 20.9 ⁰C, late July 1989.

The weather station is now surrounded on all sides by tarmac car parks. It's an awful place for a weather station. Met E have said they plan to move it. The reading is probably correct but the temperature even just a hundred metres away could be several degrees lower.

Because of its location, Shannon has always recorded high temps well into the evening during hot spells as the heat of the day causes the tarmac to heat up. But by around 11pm or midnight, when the tarmac has cooled down, it settles to a more normal temperature that's more representative of the wider area.

For example Shannon cooled down to under 10º last night. While tonight will be much warmer I'd imagine, I think the minimum night-time temp record is safe for now.

Regardless of whether Shannon Airport is not an ideal location for temperature tracking, the reality is there were likely higher temperatures recorded around Ireland today that were not even picked up as we don't have enough official stations. It looks like 32 degrees was recorded in parts of Kilkenny and Tipperary for example but those are not counted. While 33.4 degrees is the highest ever temp recorded in Ireland, there have probably been higher temps than that but we just don't have enough weather stations in the traditional hot spots around the country to track them. Going back to Shannon Airport, there are very similar questions asked about London Heathrow which is quite frequently the location for the record temperatures, again surrounded by tarmac and urban heat effect. Still 31 degrees in May is very impressive for Ireland! In Dublin where I was today it was around 23 degrees but the clear blue skies were just perfection. looks like temperatures between 20 - 23 degrees in Dublin for the rest of the week so not going to complain with that.

In Lough Eske in Donegal, beautiful up here in this weather. Got a surf in this evening in probably the nicest conditions I've ever had at Rossnowlagh. Going to Glenveagh national park tomorrow supposed to be warmer here tomorrow too. Life can be good sometimes.

This spell of weather is so far ahead of the season. When you think of all the summers that never broke 28C, let alone a Spring day 30.5C.

It reminds me of late November 2010, an autumnal spell of weather that was more like a severe January spell.

That record went in September 2023 I'm pretty sure. I remember seeing the Valentia 3am reading a crazy 25C with a land breeze.
