30c Kerry airport. @sryanbruen I’m not sure if it’s considered an official recording station?

I've never seen any reference to it in official bulletins so probably not.

Meanwhile. 16.5c in Greystones with a fresh east/north east breeze. 🤪 Will be lucky to get to 18c here today.

I often wonder why met eireann don't have more official stations tracking temperatures. Kilkenny for example is a notorious hot spot during periods of warm weather and no recordings there unless I am mistaken. While the official record for ireland is nearly 34 degrees I have no doubt that 34 has been breached but we don't have enough weather stations in known hotter locations. I don't get why they don't have more?

I would be very surprised if 30 degrees is not hit today

Cork Airport's May record according to Wikipedia is 23.6 degrees. Anyone know how accurate it is?

If that's correct, they've blown well past it today

We had 23.1c in Arklow earlier but a strong sea breeze now gusting 25kmh ENE has the temperature pegged back to 19.7c

    Very pleasant vs yesterday

As posted in the thunder thread ,convection is building in the Wicklow mountains with the convergence zone and inland heat

Been hearing about this warm weather back home and said I'd have a look at the current reports, I see Kerry Airport reporting 30°c at 1 and 1:30pm. Wow, a hot day indeed! Especially given that it's still may.

28c here in Berlin, warm and sweaty but it seems more tolerable than the same back home.

Oh how I'd love to sit on Spanish Arch and have a can on a day like today!

There is one, it's the Greenshill climate station I have been referencing.

You can see live feed from their PWS here ~ https://www.kilkennyweather.com/. The owner shares official values with me that are sent to the Met.

There needs to absolutely be more synoptic stations (the 25 you see reported live on met.ie everyday).

    Yes, from 24th May 1991.

NW on the top side of the "dome" so getting more Atlantic air feeding in. Hence a lot cooler. Not tomorrow though. 26c to 28c here. Markree may beat the "old" record and certainly its own. Until this week its average for the month was running less than 10c. Todays 21c. May reach 23c later depending on how established this cloud gets.

A glorious 26C in Oranmore at the moment.

Hoping that same easterly (ideally if it went south easterly) might bring some imports tomorrow evening! Looks like Wales will be hot spot in UK tomorrow.

Probably tarmac induced heat. Didn't we have that controversy a few years ago about Shannon? It's very warm though, no ones arguing that. Incredible that some coastal areas are stuck in the mid teens probably wondering what all the fuss is about.

Kilkenny Greenshill now 30.0C as well.

Honestly I am lost for words. This is unbelievable. The fact we got the first May 30C as well before September. The thermal lag often favours September to get higher temperatures than May, not this time. Wonder how long we have to wait 'til it gets 30C too. Both 2021 and 2023 recently got to 29C in September.
