Funny aside, I was giving a tour to some American friends one day when I asked them to let a fella on his own cross the road in front of the car. "Why? There's no crosswalk there." It's Willie O'Dea the minister for defence, he probably has somewhere important to be! Minds blown.

    I suspect he wouldn't.

That family is so far down their own rabbit hole that they're just going to view anything like that as more evidence of their religious position (for want of a better term) being persecuted, not to mention relish the attention it would bring them. Right now I firmly believe both of these items are part of their desired outcome; "winning" isn't in it at all anymore, it's just about provoking a response now.

still peddling the line that Enoch is in jail solely because he won't accept transgenderism which is lapped by gullible americans

D'you mean that time he almost went to the pub after work 😂

Louis Theroux would need them to stop shouting long enough for him to be able to speak…

The Burke's are too mental for Louis Theroux.

My wife went to school with Hildegarde, she said you just knew from an early age she was going to go on and do something in public office. She also said that she was the nicest person you could meet, no fake bullshit, just a really nice person.

Quick question when did the Burkes go mainstream. I remember seeing them on various streets in the west of Ireland many years ago and all the locals taught they were mad and a bit harmless .. was it when the kids started in college and got a bigger audience and they really started to cause issues for people.. they were around and causing trouble long before Enoch added to it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76,155 ✭✭✭✭L1011

2011 Presidential Election was the first time they came to note outside of NUIG circles really. Been causing trouble in NUIG since before then.

Someone, likely Enoch as I think he's the web dev in the family, did absolutely deranged, homophobic websites against David Norris (and latterly Katherine Zappone, that one being even more insane).

People less involved in politics, or being aware of producers of massively homophobic content, mostly didn't really become aware of them until their inquest invasion in 2020/1, then Enoch and the school.

They seem to be gradually becoming more aggressive towards people in their videos as time goes on.

there’s an odd thing with their past that’s let go in that there’s not enough mention of the plain bigotry they hold. They hide now behind religious nonsense but they are out and out bigots. Attention seeking whores that they are these days they seem to have slipped away from some of the hateful bigotry.

In any other jurisdiction if someone behaved that way to a Government minister at the very least they'd be face down and cuffed in seconds even if ultimately they didn't get charged they'd still be (very) physically removed from the scene.

As others have said , while I love the fact that Politicians and other high profile people can live relatively normal lives here in Ireland , this kind of behaviour needs to be stamped out now so that something worse doesn't happen in future.

I suspect that reality is beginning to dawn on them : i.e. their 'project' is going nowhere. Enoch is banged up and (I presume) the 'get on the bus/get off the bus' cycle of being released for every school break is no longer going to happen. He's reached the end of the road as regards his employment as a teacher. He's the face of their campaign, and we're going to see less and less of him (fingers crossed). The public's appetite for anything Burke related is beginning to wane. So their only option is to 'up the ante' and now this is resulting in behaviour that is bordering on assault (at the very least!).

You cannot accost any individual like that in a civil society. It needs to be stamped out urgently. The only positive is that the Burkes are showing themselves as deeply hostile and unlikeable to the ordinary people of Ireland. It would be hard to show that with a positive spin to somebody neutral watching in good faith. I see Isaac as somebody who is an aggressive bully and already embittered by life. His life could have been so much more joyous

They also used to do weekly protests outside the Dail with all sorts of vile homophobic stuff - can't remember where that fits into the timeline though (just checked - according to Wikipedia that was 2008!)

Irish Times story from 2010 about Dail protestors includes the Burkes: https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/people/small-voices-that-go-unheard-1.620163

For a while they were protesting outside Arthur Cox when Ammi got fired, but that didn't last long. That would have been pre-covid (just) as she was fired in late 2019

Do you not remember the country went mad having gay abortions? They came out to save us there about 10 years ago.

if that’s what salvation looks like, I will pass, thank you very much.

There were soooo many bonkers people during those eras (the fake nurse being my "favourite") that they didn't get much prominence from it.

Martina and Josiah? also challenged a Catholic priest, Fr Duffy when they were in Donegal last week. Martina goes for him asking him where he stands on sodomy!

The man was very calm and dignified, even extended a hand to shake. But she kept going and going trying to evoke a reaction I'd say. Fair play he didn't budge. Class man.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Popped up on one of my social media feeds this morning- shouting at Hikdegarde Naughton in Galway - they’re like just very bad background noise now - pointless and completely ineffective. A total farce of a family.

The scary thing is that they highlight how easy it is to become very physically close to a publicly-elected official and may encourage other agitators to act in a similarly delinquent manner

I think they'll eventually cross the line.

I used to think they were too cute to actually physically lash out at someone, but I think there's an increased quality of genuine enragement in their last few vids. Issac was pretty much losing it at the end of the MM accosting video and the recent one with Josiah confronting HN in Galway showed him being very aggressive, unusually so, even for a Burke. Not that they haven't always been enraged, but I detect it in a more pronounced way lately.

We've always got to remember as well that we only see their content, so there's probably occasions where people best them, in some form or another, but they're never going to show that.

A priest quite used to media attention - both stuff he looked for (was a major letter writer to papers about problems in his past parishes) and got landed on him (priest in Creeslough when the explosion happened); so he knew how to handle them

Its a good thing they dont try and accost/block me as the response would feckin traumatise them. I'd see it as a feckin challenge.

If an unknown male came up to Deputy Naughton that day like the Burke lad, he'd be on the ground in handcuffed and charged for intimidation, or intent to assault or whatever. Its not right how the gardaí who were right there, watched it and treated him like 'ah, sure its only that Burke lad going on one of his rants' and did nothing. As people already said, this cannot be allowed to a politician or any person. Justice Minister needs to grow balls and start instructing the Gardaí to act.
